"She turned me into a newt!"
2002-10-02 11:12:29 AM
Alas, he hasn't gotten better...
2002-10-02 11:12:56 AM
And this is news because...?
2002-10-02 11:14:03 AM
Time to get comfy in the ol' laz-e boy, lube up REAL WELL, and proceed to masturbate feverishly!

Newt turns me on.
2002-10-02 11:14:24 AM
Just when you thought it was safe to go back into the water....
2002-10-02 11:15:16 AM
I'm glad they're keeping up that "fair and balanced" tradition by brining in someone from the right for a change.

Call it the Newtz Hour
2002-10-02 11:16:49 AM

So pathetically [image from too old to be available] that only Fox News would sink this low.

Ladies and gentlement, the most pathetically-biased news network on television!

2002-10-02 11:17:44 AM
originally, I read that as "Newt Gingrich joins the cast of 'Party of Five'."

could just be the cough syrup, though....
2002-10-02 11:17:50 AM
Hey, at least give the guy a chance before pouncing all over him. I'm sure he'll present a very fair and balanced variety of opinions from the far right, the extreme right, and the complete-wacko-right.
2002-10-02 11:19:19 AM
Hiring Newt for fair and impartial news? That's like hiring Harmonia to extol the virtues of the US government.
2002-10-02 11:19:29 AM
still living newt free in georgia
2002-10-02 11:20:53 AM
Well, I wasn't sure why I never watched fox news. Now I definitely know why I'm not watching it. Newt, you suck. Go away and leave us alone.
2002-10-02 11:21:31 AM
Yeah, too bad Fox can't be as impartial as CNN...
2002-10-02 11:21:46 AM
No Newt is Good Newt with Gary GaNewt..
2002-10-02 11:22:24 AM

Oh. Wait. It's Fox. Carry on.
2002-10-02 11:23:23 AM
2002-10-02 11:24:46 AM
Official odds on the over-under for this posting is 164.
2002-10-02 11:24:55 AM
I wish the liberal media would stop using guys like Gingrich to brainwash Americans through television programming.
2002-10-02 11:27:20 AM
1, 2, 3, 4, I declare a flamewar!
2002-10-02 11:27:30 AM

"Well, I got better."

ABC could have teamed the Newt with Stephanopolous on Sunday mornings. I wonder why they chose not to.

The real news is the next story: Moby is coming back!
2002-10-02 11:30:57 AM
Fox News is a joke in the journalism industry. The top-level people are only there because they're getting paid more than CNN or MSNBC can afford, and the bottom-level people are only there because they couldn't get jobs at one of the "real" shops.

You have to remember, the man in charge over there was responsible for Bush Sr. getting into office in the first place.
2002-10-02 11:31:37 AM
Newt has been an advisor to Fox News for years. BTW, they also have Bill Clinton's former advisor Dick Morris on the other side.
2002-10-02 11:33:45 AM
So, does this count as the first job that the Bush administration has created?
2002-10-02 11:34:09 AM
I tried to submit this with a spiffy tag. Which one of you other atlanta farkers beat me to it?
2002-10-02 11:34:16 AM
Whew! Now they will have a conservative voice to counter all those moderates and liberals that populate Fox. they will be fair and balanced..or whatever their slogan is these days.

the liberal Murdoch is showing signs of getting "it".
2002-10-02 11:37:37 AM
Does anyone actually watch Fox News?
2002-10-02 11:39:02 AM
Fox News gets pretty good ratings.
2002-10-02 11:40:24 AM
"I am thrilled to be a part of not only a 'fair and balanced' news organization but the best in the country,'" gushed Gingrich in a Fox News press release Tuesday. It could not immediately be determined whether Gingrich used his fingers to make air quotes when he uttered the phrase "fair and balanced."

Okay, that part made me laugh.
2002-10-02 11:41:05 AM
I don't watch Fox News and this is just another reason why I will continue to not watch it.
2002-10-02 11:41:52 AM
> Does anyone actually watch Fox News?

Fox News is currently the #1 news channel in America, I do believe. It's on at the Gym I go to all the time. Watching it helps get me pissed off, which makes me work out harder.
2002-10-02 11:42:16 AM
Ladies and gentlement, the most pathetically-biased news network on television!

Fox is no less biased than any other news network. They don't claim to be unbiased, just that they're fair and balanced. They have an equal number of liberal and conservative commentators. You'll hear more liberal points of view on Fox than you'll hear conservative view points on Dan Rather's bullshiat newscasts.

Read the book Bias.
2002-10-02 11:43:38 AM
They said Gingrich will help for the coverage of the next elections. Oh yeah, sure will be fair and balanced coverage.
2002-10-02 11:44:18 AM
Besides which, every news reporter in the US lets their bias slip into their reporting, liberal or conservative.
2002-10-02 11:44:32 AM
They don't claim to be unbiased, just that they're fair and balanced.
Stupid answer. Being fair and balanced means being unbiased.
2002-10-02 11:46:57 AM
I hope we get lotsa commentary on how Clinton's sex "scandals" destroyed America.
2002-10-02 11:47:41 AM
Who else would hire that worthless piece of crotch cheese?
2002-10-02 11:48:25 AM
It means presenting liberal and conservative points of view. Hence the word "balance".
2002-10-02 11:48:26 AM
I can bet that in 30 years when something bad happens the Repukes will somehow connect Bill Clinton to the deed.
2002-10-02 11:48:32 AM
So, if he doesn't get good ratings, is he going to try to shut down cable for a few months?
2002-10-02 11:49:50 AM
"My Eyes! The goggles do NOTHING!"
2002-10-02 11:50:20 AM
I'll believe Fox News is balanced when they hire Noam Chomsky or Michael Moore for a regular slot.
2002-10-02 11:51:33 AM
"the liberal Murdoch"

Anyone got any thread my sides have just split!
2002-10-02 11:52:10 AM
Alan Colmes is a staunch liberal. He's on in prime time on Fox. Check it out.
2002-10-02 11:52:41 AM
I make an effort to expose myself (yikes! call the cops!) to as many divergent sources as I can; CNN, FOX, BBC, hell, I'd probably watch Al Jazeera too if I could., YellowTimes, NYTimes, NationalReview (a very good conservative site);. it's all about being as widely read/informed as possible.

Fox has it's agendum (that's what you call it when there's only one thing on your list); The Right is right, and no dissent is tolerated. Over-talking hosts such as Hannity or O'Reilly diminish what journalistic integrity is left after Rivera is done posing and prancing. Newt will likely bring more of the same. It's really too bad this country are being polarized by demagogues. How's that expression go? A mind is like a parachute; it only works when it's open.

That's all for now from this fiscally conservative, socially liberal Defender of Individual and State's Rights, Proponent of Smaller Government, Lord High Despiser of Taxes, Enemy of the Pork Barrel Polka, and Mocker of 2-wrongs-make-it-right Sophists.
2002-10-02 11:54:43 AM
It could not immediately be determined whether Gingrich used his fingers to make air quotes when he uttered the phrase "fair and balanced.

Was that a biased comment? Noooo, couldn't be.
2002-10-02 11:56:05 AM
This is just like when ABC hired George Stephanopoulos! and i dont think i heard and calls of bias then. He worked for Clinton, but he's fair? c'mom...

All news is slanted one way or the other - there is no such thing as 'balanced'. I'll take Fox over any other news any day, it represents more of the truth than CNN.
