I like the fact that Fox News does not present the exact same news as everyone else, thanks.

Someone at Fox is a TFer!
Minutes after this went green, Fox pulled it from their main page.

I've heard that there are quite a few FoxNews-employed Farkers (and TFers) that lurk around here. Probably troll too.

The earthquake actually hit four years ago, was in a different town and was in July. And Al Qaida did it.

Unless it was an earthquake made of fire, Fox News shouldn't be covering it.

Yeah. Bush caused all the global warming to conspire to kill all those illegal aliens undocumented workers by starting a war in Iraq so all the National Guard troops that have never been trained in firefighting can't help them. And Fox is making money from oil!

as long as there not talking about that stupid fire, I'll continue to visit their site.

I don't care if they leave up a picture of a big rock, as long as its not about a fire.

I grew up in Ridgecrest. A few years ago, Sony did an ad campaign for Walkman that listed Ridgecrest as the "Earthquake Capital of the world". I saw the ads, while living in DC, but they never showed in Ridgecrest itself.

Of course, most of the earthquakes are undetectable. 4.3 is unnoticeable in a town with few two story buildings.

I think I've discoved the formula for Fox News:

1. Scan internets for most sensational claims
2. Double any disaster figures by 10 (e.g. 1 million people evacuated from SOCAL)
3. Add sensational claim to end of "continuing story" queue
4. Profit!

Ridgecrest isn't in the middle of nowhere, it is nowhere. You drive past it going skiing.

I have some Fox suspects;

Whoopty Whoo the Precious Bongo Boy
Video Vader
Action_Replay_Nick

and while Bevets, D_I_A, and Tatsuma don't work there, they deserve a stipend.

Very true.
Ground always shaking, wind always blowing, lots of empty land, low flying crazed Navy and Marine pilots, very little reason to build vertically.

Actually you drive past the sign for Ridgecrest, but close enough.
I love that drive up through the lava flows and cinder cones. Its like the land time forgot.

I suppose it's undetectable if you're used to it. Around 25 years ago, we had a small one (under 4.0) with an epicenter several miles from the house. The basement amplified the groaning earth a wee bit and scared the bejustice out of me.

And we were in Hawaii last year in October when the 6.0 earthquake hit the Big Island. We were 150 miles away and it shook us all awake.

Eh, we are making fun of them but.... Is this news? (new window)

That movie came out what 3 or 4 years ago right?

FTA:
"Unless you can figure it out for yourself, you have no way of knowing you have been tricked into being part of a childish prank with an R rating attached," she said. "And even if you figure it out, you've signed a release that Mr. Cohen's people say relinquishes any rights on your part to take action against them."

So she can't sue anyway...

How the fark do you "double by 10"? Do you multiply by 2, 10, or 20? Or do you just add 10?

2007-10-25 12:59:22 PM
We used to have a hanging lamp in the living room. When it started swinging, we knew we were having another earthquake. Otherwise, not so much.

The MSM acronym doesn't make sense.

Men who have sex with men (MSM) is a term used mostly in the United States to classify men who engage in sex with other men, regardless of whether they self-identify as gay, bisexual, or heterosexual.

Don't see that in Drew's book.

I know i'm a bit late for the party, but I grew up in Ridgecrest, too! Still have family living there, if you can believe it. If you read this post, maybe we can chat? It's so small, we might know people in common.

I thought Parkfield was the "earthquake capital" of the world. Sheesh, somebody better tell the USGS since they've been spending millions every year to place earthquake detection instruments in the ground and are drilling through the San Andreas fault from one side of the tectonic plates to the other.
