Ahh, the ebaum of the standup world.

"Do you appreciate Carlos Mencia" is a useful litmus test to use in determining whether someone has the mental capacity to be interesting enough to engage in further conversation. If the answer is "yes," you leave. No harm done. If the answer is "no," further discourse may ensue.

I thought he was pretty good about 10-12 years ago, but that was because there weren't a whole lot of comedians doing the "racial jokes" thing at that time (Chris Rock was just getting popular, Chappelle was unheard-of)

This is the viewpoint of choice. Do you have a newsletter?

Also - I came into the living room the other night, and saw my SO watching AND laughing at Mencia. Don't want to TJ, but what do I do???!

yeah, Carlos Mencia started the whole racial joke thing. Richard Pryor never had any racial material. Neither did Eddy Murphy. Nope, not a bit of it.

Attention Carlos Mencia. The following things are not funny:

1. Shouting your entire delivery.

2. Being mean to people based on things they can't help (race, disability, gender, etc.).

3. "Dur-ta-dur."

4. Stealing other people's bits.

I understand that you grew up the overlooked kid in your family -- last of like 18, right? It's obvious that you desperately seek attention, and you discovered early on in life that acting like a total farking douchebag got you that attention you desired so very much. But it's not funny. And neither are you.

You know, I don't know what I expected, but I'm gratified that there are people who dislike that hack as much as I do. How the fark did he ever get his own show? I've had bowel movements that were funnier.

Chappelle was on Def Comedy Jam and starring in Robin Hood: Men in Tights around that time. If Chappelle was "unheard-of" then Ned was so far underground he might as well have been bedrock.

I think you're confusing him with George Lopez, since they "share" so much material.

2007-10-24 02:08:42 PM
I'm amazed his show keeps getting renewed, bet if Chappelle was around he'd be flippin' burgers somewhere.

Ned
He's Honduran
He steals other people's jokes
Not just other people, Cosby for christ's sake
Joe Rogan would stomp him, comedically and physically

You have to be careful. The first time or two I saw his show I thought it was funny. After that, it went downhill really quickly because you realize he was a hack, trying to get laughs off the same gig in every ...single...joke.

Ya know, pretty much every comedian has stolen bits from previous comedians. Probably much of the time unintentionally, sometimes it' just taking somebody else's premise and changing it a bit to fit yourself, improving it, whatever.

If nobody every did this, there wouldn't be any stand up left.

That being said, I don't find Mencia very funny. (Joe Rogan sucks too)

1. It worked for Sam Kinison

2. You obviously haven't been paying attention to what he says. Please provide an example of something "mean" Mencia has said about anyone. There's a difference between being "mean" and "truthful."

3. It's "dee dee dee." Mencia has an entire routine based entirely on people on who chastise him for using that term, and yet they can't repeat it correctly. I didn't realize how funny that was until now.

4. Comedians have been stealing material from each other since vaudeville. If it makes us laugh, who cares?

To be fair, while Joe Rogan can (at times) be the man, and he could definitely stomp Ned physically, he isn't really funny.
I mean, I guess he's funny if you haven't heard the jokes he tells before in your life. Which, if you're a male, you probably have heard/told before a thousand times.
Plus, he believes the lunar landing was a fake, which makes me question his sanity

/not saying Joe steals jokes
//saying his jokes are far too obvious

While this is true, it's different accidentally borrowing from someone's act you heard once and actually repeating someone's act verbatim in your own (see: Mencia v Cosby...I don't have the direct link, but I know Keith and the Girl (new window) have played comparisons on their show before.

I'm not really defending Mencia, more the idea of joke stealing. Like Louis CK accusing Dane Cooke of stealing a bit that in reality was originally formulated by Steve Martin.

Most comedians are very insecure, back-stabbing people. So when they start biatching about each other, there are usually underlying jealousy issues involved

1. But he at least had a few original bits. Either way, look where that got him.

2. Truthfully, you have no taste in humor.

3. So you find a rehashed routine mocking those who don't watch his show funny? Methinks the joke's on you.

4. The thing is, it doesn't make us laugh; just you.

Carlos MenciaTM stealing jokes isn't as annoying to me as Dane Cook stealing jokes for some reason.

I think it's because had I not know both were complete hacks, Dane Cook would still make me laugh at times. He has pretty good delivery, even though some of his routines are awful (the crying one comes to mind).

Anyone else feel the same way?

You're well past the stage of "break up with him" at this point. The only solution is to suffocate him while he sleeps.

It's the kind thing to do.

Speaking of Dane Cook, they're pimping his show on DC101, with the amazing outtake of,

"I always wanted to name my kids after Transformers characters. Come here Optimus Prime, come sit next to Megatron on the couch"

Or close enough. I wanted to shoot the guys who took advertising money to interrupt my EITM with that shiat. Christ that guy is unfunny.

I wish I'd saved that comment I posted immitating Dane Cook in a Nutshell. It was quite retarded, but pretty spot on. I wouldn't be suprised if it ended up in his next "Comedy" Special.

Dear Anyone Who Reads Fark That Works for Comedy Central Programming:

I used to be a loyal viewer. I watched tDD every day, I watched South Park every week.

As soon as this Carlos Mencia guy started doing shows for you, I stopped watching your network entirely. The only time I see the daily show now is in clip form through Crooks and Liars.

Please consider getting rid of this catbag. I may start tuning in again. Until then, have fun with your pseudo-comedian.

I don't like Carlos Mencia or Drawn Together, either. I found that there's this amazing button my remote control that allows me to change the channel when those two shows come on. It's awesome! It's like I get to choose what I want to watch!

Sam Kinison was a comedic genius. Your hero Mencia is a pathetic hack.

2007-10-24 04:06:33 PM
I heard he was getting a sign-on with FARKtv.

2007-10-24 04:07:00 PM
Mencia is being 'honest' when he does racial humor? Would it be honest to point out that he's basically stealing from bigots and hiding behind his own skin color to get away with it? That he's hiding his racism in pathetic social commentaries that also mask the fact that he does a comedy show? What is so honest about this? The man is essentially a hack who can't really tell a joke. The only reason he has a job is because Dave Chappelle realized the double-sided angle to racial humor and ducked out. Mencia bathes in it because he has nothing else. He's one of those smug douchebags that would rather be remembered for anything because he's a pathetic shell of a human being.

Hell, for all we know, he's just a bitter little troll who never got over his parents dumping him on a relative and is taking out his self-loathing under the guise of badly-stolen comedy. The only funny thing about him is the way he looks. He resembles that kid who has wild delusions about himself and how funny he is and never realizes it until that one day that it happens and he goes home and puts a bullet into his head. There's just nothing to this man at all.

I feel bad for Drawn Together being lumped with this joke. At least they make me laugh with the show, not at 'Carlos' 'Mencia,' the little twerp who was apparently so annoying that his parents gave him up right after he was born.
