My grandmother is a poll worker in Long Hill Township, NJ. Trust me -- from the stories she tells I know no one's paying attention to that little snippet of the law.

I don't think anyone enjoys it anymore.

2007-10-23 01:34:31 PM
Oh, great. We have three ballot initiatives this year on top of the ability to put the same corrupt hacks back in office. We definitely need more idiots at the polls.

[sniff] [sniff]

Did something die in here?

My dad works polls in his NJ hometown.

Seconded on what Diogenes said.

2007-10-23 01:34:45 PM
That language should be in the constitution!!! Just imagine how great this country could be if you had to pass a test to obtain suffrage.

/that first, then test for breeding
//hopefully only Jessica Alba and I pass that one.

NJ is way too overpopulated. I'm glad subby won't be adding to the problem.

Taking over a hundred years to alter it might be a start.

so that means under the original wording of the NJ constitution, no NJ citizen should have been allowed vote. can you smell a recount of every President Election since 1844? woo woo

See, the real problem is trying to clarify what you're calling someone when you say "the i-word."

They should develop a filter for Unattractive and Unsuccessful Dunderhead American to turn it into Unattractive and Unsuccessful Dunderhead American.

Then another filter to turn Following a Different Drummer to a Imaginary Beat into Following a Different Drummer to a Imaginary Beat as well.

Oh no... its already happened! The Unattractive and Unsuccessful Dunderhead Americans have taken over Fark!

I've been able to vote for years, thank you for asking.

The only part of NJ that smells is Newark, also the worst smell I ever get is when I go across the Betsy Ross bridge and am merging on to I-95, also by the airport is pretty bad too.

For some reason I thought of the "Man Show" episode where Adam and Jimmy had the "End Woman's Suffrage" booth set up. It was funny how many women were signing up.

"idiot or insane person" describes 90% of the people in NJ.

Yes, the insane idiots have something to say as well, and therefore contribute to our political debate.

Unfortunately, it is "Blenarqwath seeen bafwaht. Vooooon, Blrrrrr".

at the time the document was written, the words idiot, imbecile and moron were more clinical than they are today. each of those words had a correlating IQ score defining whether or not a person was an idiot.

from wikipedia:

"In 19th and early 20th century medicine and psychology, an "idiot" was a person with a very severe mental retardation or a very low IQ level, as a sufferer of cretinism, defining idiots as people whose IQ were below 20 (with a standard deviation of 16);

In current medical classification, these people are now said to have profound mental retardation, and the word "idiot" is no longer used as a scientific term."

2007-10-23 01:40:15 PM
What the...?

So, they WANT an idiot or a lunatic punching vote cards?

Look, I understand all the PC crap that's been flying around for the past couple decades with minorities whining about every damn thing under the Sun, but COME ON. If you're an idiot or insane, you don't get to vote. Felons don't get to vote, and for good reason: They've proved that they do not deserve to inflict their sick choices on the rest of us by voting. Crazy people and people who can't tie their own shoes get to sit in the same box.
Go sit in the sunshine and drool on yourself and let the normal people run the show.

In other news, idiots still allowed to be President of the United States.

/what?
//someone was gonna say it sooner or later

2007-10-23 01:40:50 PM
Would anyone mind if I took this opportunity to propose an NJ Fark Party?

[Gets ready to duck...]

2007-10-23 01:41:16 PM
Spookync: Taking over a hundred years to alter it might be a start.

But for how long have these terms been deemed "offensive?"

From dictionary.com:
id-i-ot /n/: Psychology. a person of the lowest order in a former classification of mental retardation, having a mental age of less than three years old and an intelligence quotient under 25.

in-sane /adj/: not sane; not of sound mind; mentally deranged.

Now if you're just saying that all people regardless of mental capacity should be able to vote, then so be it. Seems fair.

Yeah, but according to a thread last week, IQ tests supposedly could eliminate certain races from voting.

"Dumbass" is humourous in this case because it is a synonym for "idiot", which is central to the news story.
Billy, you have added another layer of humour to the situation by demonstrating that BOTH labels apply to you!

I'll have to go watch that one on YouTube. Suffrage is so close to suffering or other like words.

Yeah, can you imagine the terror that would be unleashed if a tard got hold of one of those punchey tools? He'd probably run around the polling place punching people in the nuts with it screaming, "LOOKAMEEE, IM WOTING!! IM WOTING!!!!! YAAAAYYYYYY!!"

They should probably just come up with special vote cards for Special people that use stickers (tards love stickers!) for indicating the selection.

/Wait, was that not what you meant?

Heelzfan: Yeah, but according to a thread last week, IQ tests supposedly could eliminate certain races from voting.

that's not really the biggest concern. the standard IQ test was developed to measure a person's intelligence in relation to what the general population's baseline abilities were when it was designed. the very researcher that created it, in his first abstract on the subject, notes that beyond determining the level of impairment in developmentally disabled or challanged persons, the test is grossly inadequate.

Dont worry, JesseL. The good news is if we don't vote for Libertarian (or at least sensible foreign policy) ideals and continue to stick our nose where it doesn't belong, eventually we'll get bombed/nuked and they will die in a fire ;)

In related news, Ron Paul projected to win the state of New Jersey.

Remember Ross Perot? Remember how when he gave a speech he'd start out making sense? Like, "The government spends too much money; we need to tighten our belts and cut spending and change the way we do business." And then all of a sudden he'd snap and start with the, "LIBYAN TERRORISTS ON MY LAWN!!! THE REPUBLICANS FAKED PHOTOS OF MY DAUGHTER IN A LESBIAN TRYST!!!"

Ron Paul is just like that, only without the making-sense-occasionally part.
