Alcohol will kill you and save you at the same time. Substances can have effects both positive and negative on your body. What a shock.

Instead of funding these continual studies, here's an idea: Drink in moderation, if that's what floats your boat. Don't drink if you don't want to. It's people who change their diets over these stupid studies that don't enjoy living.

Alcohol is slowly killing me. Oh well, I'm not in any rush.

I had two giant bloody marys last night watching death proof(awesome movie BTW,suck it bandwagon haters), and after that for some reason I drank a couple glasses of milk.

Alcohol doesn't kill you, it kills the people you hit on the road, the people who don't drink

New study leads scientists to suspect death may be inevitable.

At least it's not like smoking, which will kill you AND those around you.

Drinking will kill me? I'm able merely to proffer the following rejoinder:

It's not the destination, it's the ride, baby.

They're probably drunk too

That article is depressing.

I need a drink.

the first step to outlawing alcohol again has been taken

2007-10-22 05:15:12 AM
...people who average just over one drink a day (100 grams of alcohol in a week's time) increase their chances of developing colon cancer by about 15 percent.

Statistics like this really annoy me, news reporters use them all the time but they're worthless without knowing what the normal risk of colon cancer is.

A 15% increase in my chance of being hit by a meteorite wouldn't worry me much.

News update, all humans are slowly dying despite efforts to postpone/stop it.

Were all gonna die someday so make your peace with your God, stop farking worrying and live a decent life.

2007-10-22 05:17:26 AM
Yeah, and breathing oxygen will kill you eventually too. What's another 10 years if it means you can't drink? Life's too long to chance farking it up trying to extend it a couple of years, and it's too short for those extra years to be worth it.

Living shure is bad for your health...

Boy - wine shure isnt good for you, neither are starches, or carbs, or fatty foods, or too much protein. Christ, - I have seen people who live to be 100 years old - NO THANKY YOU SIR I AM NOT EATING MY BREAKFAST TOAST WITH A SPOON. As it happens, being alive is the single worst thing you can do for your health.

Life isn't judged by the length of your journey but by is experience

But whatever - live as long as you like, but one day your kids wont see you anymore, your friends will all be dead and the only way you can poop is when the nurse shoves a pill up your ass.

Now if you will excuse me i need to stave of the cold fingers longevity

Hey guys,

Anyone here a heavy drinker, and has been for some time (say 10 years) ? I'm talking like 2 litres of beer a day or thereabouts. Have you noticed your mind/thoughts/recall ability/wit diminish much?

Just over the last 6 months or so I've noticed a definite decrease in sharpness - which could have come about from a combination of factors (smoking, hanging out with the wrong crowd, eating crack for breakfast (just kidding on that last one)) .. but I've been doing that for years. just curious as to whether theres anyone out there that's actually noticed themselves slowing up mentally, and if so, give us your story.

Phew, one hour later and my post is complete.

A 15% reduction in heart attacks will save thousands more lives than would be lost to a 15% increase in incidences of colon cancer. But the media's not going to let math get in the way of a good story.

/I didn't actually do the math, but it seems reasonable
//And it makes life worth living
///Despite how I felt when I woke up in the bathroom yesterday morning

I'm just going to keep drinking until 3 months from now when a new study is done and comes to opposite conclusion.

Just like the one that was done 3 months ago.

BTW - did you know salt is bad for you? No wait, it's good for you now. Everybody eat salt!! Lots and lots of salt.

Did you ever sniff glue? If you had, and could recall the experience, you'd recall that it was remarkably similar to being drunk. The reason is that sniffing glue and drinking alcohol get you high by the same method - they simply kill brain cells. They are not really drugs as such, but rather crude, protoplasmic poisons. Alcohol is, by a considerable margin, the worst and most destructive substance of abuse known to man. And yes, of course, over time it will decimate your memory, as well as your ability to reason, your impulse control, and generally rot your brain. That's what it does, and how it gets you high. Compared to alcohol, our great bugaboo heroin is mother's milk.
And yet, consumed in extreme moderation, by those who can enjoy it in moderation, it is actually beneficial. Go figure.

These studies are the cause of my binge drinking.

Good for you - drink a lot. Bad for you - stop. Repeat. Rinse. Wipe Hands.

2007-10-22 08:02:45 AM
I abuse alcohol in moderation and am moderately dependent upon it.

2007-10-22 08:02:53 AM
If that was true wouldn't the Mormons be smarter than everyone else? I rest my case.

2007-10-22 08:17:32 AM
actually the medical community has always been careful about alcohol use -- the red wine glass/day was overhyped by alcoholic media reporters, alcohol has always had more adverse effects than benefits

2007-10-22 08:18:22 AM
On the other hand, if you're a coffee fiend like me you may be able to offset the colon cancer risk.

Of course, by the time you reach said palace, you look and feel like nine miles of hard (cough)Keith Richards(cough) road.

Still...

Moderate alchohol intake causes health problems? God I need a drink.

2007-10-22 08:24:51 AM
Good thing I only drink way beyond the boundaries of moderation, otherwise these findings would concern me.

That can happen but the good news is that unless you're really far gone, if you stop for a while, the damage is somewhat reversible.

Why do they always do the studies for people who have one drink a day, and then people who have 4 or more a day? I have zero a day until the weekend, when it becomes 12 a day. What effect does THAT have on my cancers??

It's a little more complex than that. Alcohol does kill brain cells but it also stimulates the pleasure centers in your brain and can produce a chemical that replaces the endorphines your body naturally produces that get you naturally high. That's where the withdrawal comes in when you stop. Sniffing glue simply kills brain cells.

It's surprising how misinformed people are about something that gets consumed so much. Drinking doesn't kill brain cells, but damages dendrites by farking with the calcium flow in the cell, which surprisingly increases neural activity for a while. Anyway, the damage is mostly temporary, although over time you are rewiring your brain because of alcohol.

Another thing that people forget about drinking is that saps you of vitamins. I usually have some V8 on hand or some vitamins after drinking. Also dehydrates you as well.

Anyway, alcohol has quite a few negative effects, especially when not taken in moderation, but killing brain cells isn't one of them.

Hence why we should tax the crap out of Alcohol. Not only would it force people to quite this pathetic habit, but it will make us quite some cash considering how many sad little addicts it creates. That way we could at least get a park out of the guy beating his family after a big night with the captain.
