Elvis Von Brainiac: Maybe his eyesight was so bad that he thought it was a farmers market.

I was actually thinking along similar lines. In both cases the old driver mistook the gas for the brake.

Now, would this be homeowners, auto, act of God, or FARK insurance?

FTA "If anyone was in the path of the vehicle, they would have definitely been killed," said police Sgt. Joe McHugh.
That's some good policework there, Johnson.

Seventy-one, people.
I propose a new law that says you can't collect social security benefits without retaking the driving exam.
Also, cockpunch to submitter for misleading headline.
Skip the video folks, it's just two nattering asshats going on about how the car jumped the pool AS WELL AS the hot tub.

Sounds like Charlie Sheen channeling Ted Kennedy on his way to Gary Busey's house.

2007-10-20 12:01:16 PM
was the house next door to a farmers' market or a country Kitchen Buffet?

2007-10-20 12:05:44 PM
Didn't the homeowner seem just a little bit too happy for having her house condemned?

Or was she just keeping in mind the large sum of money she was going to extract from the old man's insurance company?

2007-10-20 12:05:45 PM
I read that as "cow" instead of "car" and thought I would be watching the greatest video ever.

/Seriously, I second the motion to retest everyone old enough for Social Security...
//Hope the old guy loses his license and has to drive one of those stupid golf cart thingies to the country buffet next time... can't smash through a fence with those carts.

Hehe... I see what you did there. If the accident was 'wreck'-less, then they couldn't charge him with 'reckless' driving.

With no skateboarder backup, the mafia is going to be mighty upset when mr. flabby whiteass in the burbclave down the street doesn't get his 'za.

As if anything's obscure anymore.

2007-10-20 02:23:25 PM
As soon as I read the headline, I thought "I bet it's an old fart who was confused by the two pedals he/she has been using for the last 50 years, yet for some reason still has a license".

Police said Antonia Yabut, 71, of Coral Springs, was eastbound on Atlantic Avenue at about 12:08 p.m. when he apparently hit the accelerator instead of his brake

What do I win?

2007-10-20 02:43:54 PM
Something is not right about this story. To do the damage he did, he must have been riding the accelerator all the way. Stuck accellerator? Suicide by Suzuki? Dementia?

subby here, sorry about the confusion regarding "with video", maybe you'll forgive me because...
woohoo, finally, my first greenlight!!!

This actually happened near where I live while I was helping a friend move. For a while they were unsure of how to get the car out... because there was a pool in the way

2007-10-20 09:49:58 PM
OK, lets clear this up, because it pisses me, and I'm sure alot of you off every time we all see it.

The (with video) suffix is for use when there is video of said accident, stunt, event on the page of the story. For example if the owner of the house was videotaping her kids playing in the back yard, and then caught the car coming thru the fence, over the pool and going into the house, the (with video) tag would be appropriate. The tag is NOT for use when there is video of the news crew talking to the homeowner and police afterwards.
