As the weather warms, the indigenous people's apetite increases. Therefore, they must eat more.

Found this:

"caribou herds have been extirpated and decreased through disruption of habitat (mining exploration and caribou tagging operations) and over-hunting."

Nothing to do with the climate then.

Well methane is some 21x more potent a greenhouse gas as CO2. What's limiting its significance is the atmospheric content remains low, even though industrialization has increased that content by 149%.

There is an interest in just how much methane is being produced by cow burps and farts. While it seems like it should be insignificant, there are far greater numbers of these rather gassy ruminant animals than would ever occur in nature being grazed all over the place.

Respiration produces CH4? I thought it produced CO2.

Wiki says: C6H12O6 (aq) + 6O2 (g) → 6CO2 (g) + 6H2O (l) ΔHc -2880 kJ

Nope, no methane.

FAIL.

//confuse digestion and respiration much?

Please note that the "report" only mentions the Arctic, because the Antarctic ice-cap is thicker (and Larger) than at any time in recorded history.
This is why they have changed the term from "Global Warming" to "Climate Change".
The globe is NOT warming; it is getting warmer in the North and COLDER in the South!

Wouldn't methane mostly be confined to the lower GI tract and not the stomach?

\Really not sure.

NASA's GRACE satellite measurements of the mass of antarctic ice say that is has been shrinking.

This is why they have changed the term from "Global Warming" to "Climate Change".

Global warming causes climate change. They are related terms with different meanings but both describe what is happening and both are commonly used to refer to man's impact on the climate.

The globe is NOT warming; it is getting warmer in the North and COLDER in the South!

The globe is warming, and it is warming faster in the Northern hemisphere than the Southern, as expected during increased greenhouse warming.

Here is Northern vs. Southern warming:

Facts are that the North is warming more than the South.

The south is still warming

Oh yeah, cold air doesn't hold as much water as warmer air, so 'warmer air' (10 degrees instead of 7) will cause more snow fall in the arctic, causing the inner ice-cap to thicken...

Less Snow makes it easier for the Wolves to catch calves and the new vegetation is not to the Caribou's dietary liking. Hopefully they can adjust to the new food, but it's the wolves that worry me, Maybe we can get the Hippies to adopt the Wolves since they think they is just Big goofy puppies.

I believe snow is detrimental to the deer-family. Wolves and humans can run them down easier.

Although the protected wolf population is growing...

2007-10-20 01:40:36 AM
Wolves and Caribou will come into a natural balance and don't need humans to fark it all up for them.

Less snow should make it easier for the healthy caribou to escape a wolf. The wolf is natures way of keeping a herd strong. Humans are the human way of farking over a caribou herd by shooting the strongest and letting the weakest ones breed since the strong ones have all been shot with a rifle from 1/2 mile away.

Wolves aren't big goofy puppies, but they sure as hell are a shiat load better then humans at moderating their growth and keeping a natural balance with things.

points for explaining.

One: I don't know where Impaler gets his info, but it's nonsense. In FACT the antarctic continent is seeing massive melts, and has lost 50% of some of it's coastal glaciers in the last 20 years.

Two: Caribou. Anyone who's actually SEEN nature, would be amazed at how awesome it is. In canada, rivers as wide as the the Hudson by NYC are FROZEN SOLID, or at least, THEY USED TO BE. Now they get all thin and dangerous. Herds fall into the ice and die. They never make it to the other side, finding themselve on melting river ice, stranded on islands that melt away.

A lot of folks like to make up nonsense: mostly cause they have never seen anywhere but their houses, some tv shows and maybe a trip to a forest nearby. they are totally unaware of the MAGNITUDE of nature's power, or the IMMENSITY of the destruction occurring. It's like they think that a tidal wave is just some big wave, they don't percieve it as a wall of doom. They see that they can't drink the water going down the sewer, but it doesn't compute that that water is flowing into our streams and oceans. Just go to a local dump and take a whiff: then multiply all that garbage times every day of the week everywhere on earth. That's the shiat hole we are creating for "future" generations. We deposit filth, coal dust, methane, Co2, dioxin, radioactive nucleotides, and just plain defecatory matter into the environment all day long every day, every day of the week, month and year, everywhere on earth, ALL THE TIME. We, as a race, are the most disgusting, pollutive blight that has ever walked this earth, and if we are not soon wiped off it, it will prove that their is no justice in the Universe. According to National Geographic, 96% of all mammals over 45 inches tall have been EXTINGUISHED, BY MAN, in the last 15,000 years. For every living elephant, there are 22 SPECIES that have been extinguished that were about as tall as one. All in just 15,000 years. Humans are like Bark beetles.

I think we have a chance of redeeming ourselves, but frankly, if we do not, I won't be surprised.

Why the article is a lie?

Caribou herds in Canada and Alaska are NOT "dwindling" or anything of the sort

They are increasing in many parts, and stable in others.

There is only one sub-species of Caribou actually considered endangered, and that is the Mountain Caribou, extent through the northwest U.S. and British Columbia.

While the Mountain Caribou has a low population, it's actually doubled in the last decade or so, invalidating the "dwindling" part of the author's claim.

Much like the Dying Polar Bear claims, this claim is also totally false.

Drammach: Why the article is a lie?

The caribou in question- British Columbian mountain caribou- have gone from around 2,500 ten years ago to around 1900 today.

I'm not sure what would motivate you to say that the article is a lie when one can easily see that it is not by checking other sources.

libbyshome: Could someone please explain why?

"The decline in the herd has been blamed on habitat loss and predators."
