I like Karl Urban's work and all, but isn't he a little beefy to play Bones?

Spock needs a shave.

The only casting choice I don't like is Simon Pegg as Scotty. Don't get me wrong, I love Simon Pegg, I just think Paul McGillion would have been a better choice. He looks like a young James Doohan and is actually Scottish.

Plus, having Simon Pegg in this takes away valuable time that could be better spent making more movies with Edgar Wright and Nick Frost. :(

That's kinda what I came in here to say.

Although maybe the younger Bones had the bone to tell Kirk to just STFU every once in awhile.

And then they'd hug it out. Shirtless. And sweaty.

Spock ruins everything with his precious logic!!!

I was going to say "no, he's Canadian," but I looked it up and, sure enough, he was born in Scotland and moved back there for three years when he was a kid. You learn something new every day!

Star Trek has become like Star Wars where you're only allowed to use characters previously introduced.

Pixelvision: Star Trek has become like Star Wars where you're only allowed to use characters previously introduced.

Seriously. Every damn critter that wandered past the camera in the cantina scene has had a book written about it.

I thought Karl Urban was hot in "Chronicles..."

M M M M M..!!!

I can't wait to get all the links to viral marketing campaign when the "crew" starts posting blogs about being in space.

Most of them in the "Tales from the Mos Eisley Cantina" book, maybe?

I was going to be negative until I rtfa. And. I hate to admit it, but it looks well cast. If the stories good (WRITE A GOOD STORY YOU STUPID KNOBS) then I'd plunk down my money to actually watch this.

I disagree. I think they've done a fine job casting the crew.

I think it might be a bad sign if Bones looks more imposing than Kirk, but overall the cast doesn't appear too bad. But I'm wondering where Nurse Chapel or Mr.Kyle are?

2007-10-19 07:31:14 PM
I agree that I just can't picture Simon Pegg as Scotty. He must've been able to do one hell of an impersonation of Scotty's voice in order to get it. He just doesn't have the look, even if he shaves and dyes his hair.

I'm just going to be watching this wondering if Spock will go all Sylar and actually take a mind during a mind meld.

2007-10-19 08:50:40 PM
ATTENTION NERDS! The new cast will portray the same characters in a different manner. If you want the same characters to be portrayed in the same manner, watch the old episodes. Otherwise, STFU about how Simon Pegg can't be Scotty because he's not Scottish or fat.

/Don't know where that came from...

Captain's Log, Stardate 29.2:
Spock is being such a biatch. He's really angry lately and demanding we take him to Vulcan. No way am I going to do him a favor, he still has yet to apologize to Uhura for calling her a slut.

Mmm that new female lieutenant is looking really hot in that mini-skirt.

I was aware of most of the casting for this movie. When THE HELL did Simon Pegg get cast as Scotty? Whaa? I kinda like that..kinda not sure. Still surprised about it.

I DO NOT like Chris Pine as Kirk. He looks too much like a young Captain Pike/Jeff Hunter

And Karl Urban is an interesting choice for Bones.

Where did Eric Bana come from? I liked the Russell Crowe idea a hell of a lot more. And I'm damn tired of this Romulan crap.

2007-10-19 10:45:12 PM
Cast sucks, with the exception perhaps of a miscast Simon Pegg, because he's hilarious in camp films but I just don't see the producers of this "reboot" going camp with it.

Sylar? The zombie witch from Pirates of The Caribbean 2+3? A bit-player from "Chronicles of Riddick"? Eric Bana is the most accomplished actor there, and he'll play a romulan... badly, I imagine.

The cast is filled with suck, much like the upcoming "Aliens" film, and I predict that no amount of writing or special effects can save a cast full of suck.

2007-10-20 03:14:25 AM
Another Romulan villain? no, NO, no, NO, NO! It doesn't fit the timeline! First contact with the Romluans after the Earth-Romulan war was in Balance of Terror! I'm sick of them farking with the timeline! Not counting time travel episodes of course.

deadsanta: The zombie witch from Pirates of The Caribbean

FAIL

Naomie Harris (of 28 Days Later played the zombie witch. Zoe Saldana played Anamaria, one of the pirates in Pirates. You're confusing your smoking hot women of color.

I'd post their pics, but it's Saturday morning, and I'm lazy.

--be seeing you.

Assimilate This: First contact with the Romluans after the Earth-Romulan war was in Balance of Terror! I'm sick of them farking with the timeline! Not counting time travel episodes of course.

I think it is (yet another) time travel thing. A Romulan from after Nemesis goes back in time to fark things up, I guess creating a whole new timeline where first contact with the romulans is now this guy.

2007-10-20 09:14:27 AM
They should just say it's a 'reimagining' ala Battlestar Galactica and leave Nimoy and THE SHAT out.

Oh and NO time travel!

I like Karl Urban, but he's a strange choice for Bones. Be odd to see him healing folks instead of breaking necks.

/tired of Klingons
//fairly glad it's Romulans
///whats wrong with Gorn, Tholian ideas?

Please tell me you're kidding about the time travel thing...although if it is Romulans with Romulan tech from TNG era going back in time, that would make a pretty tough foe for the new Krk. And by 'tough foe', I mean, no way in hell 23rd century Enterprise takes on 24th century Warbirds.

If you're going to use Romulans from the 24th century and Nimoy as Spock, why not resolve what happened to Spock on Romulas? You know, kind of what should have been in Nemesis??

Better not see Kirk in a dune buggy.

2007-10-20 09:40:46 AM
Simon Pegg, Karl Urban, and Eric Bana make me very, very happy (horny).
The boy Kirk, not so much. Wrong, wrong, wrong. Kirk was sexy, not a pretty boy, and there's a big difference.

2007-10-20 01:49:05 PM
Awesome. I think the cast looks great. Not exactly the same as the original -- but why would you want that anyway? I've got high hopes.

"Where did Eric Bana come from?"

I dunno, all I can say is "Praetor, SMASH!!!
/ok, he's probably a sub-commander or something, but praetor sounded better.
