Somebody pinch me....Jesse Jackson is taking the day off from being a racial extortionist today. This has to be a dream.

2007-10-19 02:57:52 PM
It will also feature a noose on the cover.

2007-10-19 03:52:32 PM
I have three reactions to this. I'm not sure which is most appropriate, so I'll give you all 3.

1) But remember: It's all whitey's fault that the black man isn't taken seriously and treated equally in this day and age.

2) Hell, I'm all for taking the power out of words that are meant to hurt, but this is a special kind of stupid.

3) Who?

Didn't Dick Gregory do this about 40 years ago?

2007-10-19 04:08:39 PM
What's next? A record release party under the shade tree in Jena?

2007-10-19 04:26:12 PM
Anyone who thinks this title is cutting edge or pushing the envelop is a racist.

2007-10-19 04:27:02 PM
If you're looking for attention, why not just name it "Penis"?

2007-10-19 04:31:10 PM
I thought they had a funeral for that word? Maybe it's just coming back from the dead in a zombie-state.

2007-10-19 04:31:18 PM
Well, I should have read the article, eh?

Who cares. White people can act attractive and successful African-Americanly. Are they being attractive and successful African-Americans? Yes. attractive and successful African-American (or nubian) is just a word that equates to "asshole", but it's not socially acceptable for white people to use it in the presence of black people until CK Louis gets his own TV show.

I also believe asshole can be a term of endearment. Everyone is an asshole at times, but it takes a true friend to let them know.

2007-10-19 04:33:42 PM
nubian please...

2007-10-19 04:34:07 PM
Hahahaaa! Wow, I got filter-raped.

/Fark is racist

2007-10-19 04:34:19 PM
Didn't he just have a single titled "Hip Hop is Dead?"

Suppose he was forshadowing himself.

Nas is a hack, but his dad is the goods. Get all his dad's albums. They're amazing.

Who would have thought that someone who wears a sarcophagus on a gold rope around his neck would be distasteful?

I'll bet he's not even Egyptian.

Yes. I love love love In The World. And I do like the Nas song that Olu sings on...Something about being "the greatest man alive."

2007-10-19 05:02:21 PM
I like NAS. I'll buy it.

It's a goddamn word. Leave the words alone.

2007-10-19 05:03:00 PM
Hey, it's easier than actually coming up with a good album to get some attention.

2007-10-19 05:04:27 PM
I'm gettin' it.

Nas is a hack

i hope you're joking. the new album title definitely deserves the attention whore picture, but he is incredible.

/illmatic FTW

2007-10-19 05:39:47 PM
For some reason, it just seams redundant to me.

/has lots of black friends.

2007-10-19 05:40:47 PM
I heard there was initially resistance from Def Jam over the title, but I think that's because they were pushing for it to be called "I'll never be as good as Jay-Z". It's true, but that's just rubbing his nose in it.

So you mean, what, all two of them? Don't wanna break the bank here, or anything.

Now, if you're talking about the albums by other artists on which he appears... then we might have something.

Anyone see that episode of The Shield, where this dude was being interrogated and said, "He called me n1g93r. Not, nubian - n1993r. Like with a E-R."

I'm not black, so I can't say how it impacts me whenever that word is said. But the idea of banning that word is, at best, the dumbest idea ever. At worst, it's what's gonna lead to a totalitarian state.

Why? 'Cause N1gg3r gets banned. Then feminists get all uppity and get "coont" and "broad" banned. Then moral Christian leaders get, "Cocksucker", "motherfarker" and all the "fark" variants banned. Then the US releases the newspeak dictionary - then the next generation gets indoctrinated in public schools using the newspeak dictionary. And PRESTO! An army of dumb kids who have only been taught to think in a "PC" fashion. Which is one step below functionally retarded.

/attractive and successful African-American attractive and successful African-American attractive and successful African-American attractive and successful African-American attractive and successful African-American
//Lenny Bruce has already done a bit about why we need to keep the word attractive and successful African-American around. (Carlin too.)
///I wonder what the filter will do?

Oh - and African-American is retarded too. What if the black guy you're talking to is from Canada? Or Britain?

How will I talk about the new album with black friends?

"You hear the new Nas album?"
"I didn't know he had one, what's it called?"
"It's called Ni....none of your business!" (runs away)

Could you please not use that derogatory term for Filipinos in this racially-sensitive thread?

The bolded line is probably the most common sentiment expressed whenever Nas puts out a new album.

siva: Nas, you so LAME.

It's true. His sh*t is garbage, what's he trying to kick knowledge?

Let's see if I can trick the wordfilters.

attractive and successful African-American.

Did it work?

He used to be one of the best rappers of all time - Illmatic was a classic - now he's pretty much irrelevant. He's like the Roger Clemens of hip-hop.

2007-10-20 04:08:53 AM
Here's the thing. Nas made the choice to be underground and relevant, vs pop and bullshiat. Illmatic was awesome. Jay Z got it right. Before the Jay battle, he had 1 hot album every 10 years average. But after that, after the track Ether.. He came into his own. Everything after that has been incredible. He's a street cat. He's an underground MC who isn't a backpacker rapping for college white kids.

Sarcasticus: Oh - and African-American is retarded too. What if the black guy you're talking to is from Canada? Or Britain?

African-Canadian, African-British, duh...

Only newscasters use the term African-American, so I don't really see why people get all up in arms about the term.

2007-10-20 02:28:28 PM
Please.

2007-10-20 10:28:04 PM
if white people didn't want us to say the word, why the hell did they invent it?
/paul mooney

i like the fact that nas is making people have the conversation about saying nubian. publicity stunt? yes, probably... but its a useful one (as opposed to claiming you will retire if someone outsells you).

also: nas' illmatic is arguably the best rap record ever made. describing him as a hack is downright silly.

2007-10-21 02:37:39 PM
It Was Written wasn't garbage, either. Nas IS the Paul Mooney of rap; not willing to sell out for dollars, but loved for his message, and refusing to edit himself. Believe it or not, he's a true artist. Well, his third and fourth albums may have been reaching for the mainstream, but has recovered nicely, according to his last few releases.

Folks who don't like hip-hop will never understand the artistic value. It's easy to dislike the genre if the sound is not to your liking. Compared to any type of music that has been released in the past 10-15 years, I dare someone to find more meaningful lyrics, creatively-worded, and using more literary devices than the hip-hop genre.

/still like Redman better
//he's hilarious

Threads like this are the main thing I hate about Fark. Not because of the content, but because we're apparently all children who aren't allowed to see naughty words, but only words that obviously are placeholders for naughty words. Drew Curtis is a farking shiatcoont for not letting us say attractive and successful African-American when we're having a discussion about a farking album called attractive and successful African-American. And yet I can call him an asshole, how farking stupid is that?
