All cop cars should have them and any car with a defective camera due to tampering should be investigated. It would be valuable in getting immediate D.U.I. Convictions, preventing police brutality, etc..

2002-09-30 09:10:23 PM
I thought it was just a cop reflex to beat the shiat out of cameras?

2002-09-30 11:51:50 PM
Oh I am sure internal affairs will fire these officers and then fine them for the repair of the cameras. This is a fair country with equal rights for all. Right?

2002-10-01 12:40:40 AM
Most cops like the cameras so when some asshole makes a complaint against them that isn't justified. I'm not sure why they wouldn't want the cameras in their cars. I would highly dout that a supervisor is going to sit through 8 to 10 hours of tape to see what your doing each night.

2002-10-01 02:26:08 AM
Hell, we used to do this kind of shiat during lunch hour in high school...

2002-10-01 02:28:47 AM
Ya know, a hyphen would do wonders for that headline.

in-car, maybe?

2002-10-01 02:29:29 AM
Cripes,
The cops used to get Real Pissed when I used to break off antennas from their cars...

Sabotage indeed...

2002-10-01 02:40:24 AM
I like the one Eugene cop that has shot and killed two people that were not resisting on two seperate occasions..

I also believe he shot and killed a small puppy as well.

Did he get suspended? Nope.

2002-10-01 02:46:39 AM
Sooooo why aren't they questioning the cops about the damage being done? Wait, nevermind, just need more taxpayer's money and all is well.

2002-10-01 02:51:56 AM
yeah..Eugene is really nice but it has the annoying combination of redneck cops that are not really monitored and hypersensitive whiners that are living on mom and dad's trust fund. The cops like to drive their hick trucks into town and eat donuts and the whiny vegans like to grumble and eat tofu and act like getting pepper sprayed is a crime against humanity..so it gets annoying

2002-10-01 03:08:57 AM
i mean whats the deal w/ www.uk-sucks.com

2002-10-01 03:13:45 AM
nslookup states:

Name: fark.com
Address: 209.50.236.100

Name: uk-sucks.com
Address: 209.50.236.100

So uk-sucks has simply pointed his dns server at fark.com

2002-10-01 03:14:30 AM
Or Drew has registered uk-sucks.com

2002-10-01 03:24:57 AM

Hard to believe there was ever a show like this with a pre-Munster Fred...sing along everyone!

There's a hold-up in the Bronx,
Brooklyn's broken out in fights,
There's a traffic jam in Harlem
That's backed up to Jackson Heights.
There's a Scout troop short a child,
Khrushchev's due at Idlewyld,
Car 54, Where Aaare Yooou?

/catchy tune

Thought that the cameras only came on when the lights and sirens went on. It's not like you can keep them running the whole 8 hour shift.

If you don't want anyone to read your farking shiat, leave it off the farking internet. Hate companies who slap shiat up on the net and then write long drawn out missives on how it's their stuff and you have no "right" to it.

2002-10-01 05:22:20 AM
uk-sucks is just fark, fark with no differences.
Its just another domain name that sends you here.
By the way.... the UK does not suck

Having been a high school student in Eugene, and having myself been hassled by the rediculous Eugene police i hope this camera bullish blows up in their faces. Bite me Eugene police!

2002-10-01 09:58:08 AM
Isn't it ironic that cops want to point cameras at everyone else and are now pulling this crap?

They're really just afraid that people will get an objective look at how they really behave.

But what would you expect from a bunch of high school grads who actually want a job which mostly consists of hassling minors and minorities?

2002-10-01 10:38:26 AM
Jesus, can the conspiracy theories will ya? Cops are people like everyone else. Would you like a camera on you all day long? Sure, no supervisor is going to sit there and monitor you for your entire shift. The point is that if a supervisor has a problem with you, he's got mounds of tape that he can go through until he finds one little slip-up that justifies suspending/firing you.

2002-10-01 10:50:31 AM
Hate to state the , but Eugene is a granola infested hole.

2002-10-01 12:16:18 PM
BigTuna

Your analogy is a bit off...when I'm on the job, I don't have legal permission to shoot and kill people. Police have greater responsibilities than the rest of us, and when they abuse those, they need to be nailed. If they don't like being on video, quit. Nobody said police work was easy. In a few years, we'll all be on video anyway, so the point's moot

2002-10-01 12:20:50 PM

In other news, KATU employees have been sabotaging video cameras trained on their fingers.

2002-10-01 01:07:23 PM
"It's not like you can keep them running the whole 8 hour shift."

Why not? They make 8 hour videocassettes, and these systems could use special recorders and special tapes to allow 10 hours or more.

2002-10-01 01:08:46 PM
Big-Tuna

Cops have a greater responsibility and therefore accountability. If they can't handle being under scrutiny, then they need to take jobs as janitors.

2002-10-01 01:10:29 PM
I think if I had gotten just a little more creative with my previous post I could have made it sound like a Jesse Jackson quote...

2002-10-01 01:14:18 PM
"Department administrators place the blame on the SpectraTek camera systems, saying they never worked properly from the time they were installed five years ago. The manufacturer said no one had complained or exercised the warranty."

LOL, That's funny. The cops are trying to blame it on someone else, I think that's funny. Cause they're lying. But what I really like is how the manufacturer states the obvious. 1) NO complaints from anyone 2) They didn't use the warranty! LOL

Trying to keep thier dirty deeds off of the tapes. Most cops deserve being watched.

I've got an idea, when the cops aren't at work maintenance needs to install mini cameras above the back seat & pointed forward to see HOW the cameras are getting damaged.

2002-10-01 01:33:17 PM
Lived in Eugene for 8 years. There are generous amounts of rural right-wing conservative "do what the bible says" types as well as liberal left-wing "I have the right to do anything I want to" types. Makes for constant friction and much media coverage.

On the one hand, the police DO seem to overreact whenever there is a demonstration and/or protest. Pepper spray tends to flow like water. On the other hand, the protestors often seem to think they have a *divine right* to engage in property damage and serious disruption because of the rightness of their cause, and complain when laws are enforced as a result. Hey, even Ghandi realized he was going to get smacked around a bit....

2002-10-01 01:54:57 PM
"Cops have a greater responsibility and therefore accountability."

But they DON'T have a greater accountability, if I'm not mistaken...

I beleivr that if a cop murders someone on the job, the sentance is the same. Apparently according to our constitution, (which I ususally defend vigorously), someone with that kind of power has to be treated exactly the same as anyone else, which I actually think is incredibly stupid.

If you're going to give someone the power to force people to do stuff simply by ordering them around, then you have to give them greater deterrent to committing crimes because they can easily abuse that power. A cop could easily force someone to stop on a dark road far from civilization and kill them, and then plant evidence on them using their knowldeg of how evidence would be in such a crime scene so that the forensics guys wouldn't see any problem, and then claim that the person struggled with them, and oh look, here's some drugs in their car, that proves they had a reason to struggle.

Has this happened before? I don't know. But it could, easily.

Allowing these cops to get away with disabling their cameras is just crazy.
