Sorry to threadjack here, but why is there no follow up to that "Air America" host that claimed to have been mugged but as it turned out they just fell and hit their head?

Is this story in TF only? Or is it just being ignored?

Big deal. This is between the kid and the parent.

2007-10-17 05:14:50 PM
they are called "hipsters"

I don't mean trendy kids, who listen to indie music and wear vintage clothing.

the true hipster is SO liberal, they refuse to work for the man (or anyone) and write blogs about how much the man sucks, and buy vinyls.

There was a follow-up yesterday, in the form of the right-wing blog post that speculated she was actually drunk and abusive in a bar. Now that story needs a follow-up on Fark, as I think it turned out to be completely bogus as well.

frogger414: Lazy bastards! My kids will be out of the house after HS graduation - they can finance their own dreams!

Cool. The country needs trash collectors and janitors. Good to know someone's willing to supply them.

But really, depending on mom and dad is ridiculous. Especially post college. Even while in college you should be getting a job and starting to get a good financial sense and budget. Learning to control spending habits, keeping track of what goes where etc. It bugs the shiat out of me that my girlfriend refuses to keep track of her money. It just kinda "disappears", whereas I check my bank weekly to keep track of how much or how little I'm spending.

Good habits like that really help out the parents who are already paying out the ass as is to get kids through college. Why not say thank you and, oh, I don't know, NOT put them (or you) into a crater of debt?

Job hopping? Sure. As long as you can pay and take care of yourself, and not have to fall back on someone to take care of your lazy ignorant ass.

"Thirty is the new 20," says Jeffrey Jensen Arnett, editor of last year's "Emerging Adults in America."

Whenever I read lines like that, I suddenly get the irrational hope that someone will get hit by falling airplane parts.

When Mrs. Biyaaatci and I honeymooned in Italy, one of the places we stayed at in Rome advertised itself as a bed and breakfast. I knew it probably meant someone's apartment, but we figured we wouldn't be there too often, so it would be fine. It was some dude's apartment, but it was nice, and he left us with no "rules," so we stayed. After getting loaded on absinthe and coming back at 3:00 in the morning, we discovered it was his mom's place by waking her up trying to unlock the door. These leaches are such classy people.

2007-10-17 05:23:06 PM
The problem with this trend is that it's creating very emotionally soft people. I'm 27 and come in contact with many people my age who have NOTHING to worry about and when life throws them a curveball they crumble. I'm all about following your dreams, hell, I did, but one should work as hard as possible to achieve those dreams and if mommy and daddy are paying for it, you never experience the satisfaction of earning things on your own.

PS: if you bought a house in the past 3 year - you're a retard.

Houses aren't magical (despite the kool-aid you drank claiming otherwise) - they don't always appreciate in value.

Te people in this article are doing it right.

Hmm. I didn't see it from yesterday. Guess I wasn't looking hard enough. I saw from an article on Drudge (yeah I know) that some were claiming it was a Right wing group trying to "silence" her. Was that mentioned?

See, this is why I believe in one vote per household.

Whiny "dreamers" who want to "make the world a better place", but don't know squat about surviving in this place called reality end up voting for whatever dilletante promises the most hand-outs to hordes of "needy" people. It sucks that they get as much of a vote as people who take responsibility for themselves and actually embody the American ideal (the self-made life).

Fark that. You should have to provide a pay-stub and a photopcoy of your mortgage as proof of identification when voting.

Those "hardships" are generally what builds character and emotional maturity. Things which apparently mean nothing to you.

2007-10-17 05:31:26 PM
I dont think Im selfish when I have no where to go for help and the only ones offering to help are my parents.
My dad is offering to help pay for medical school and am I going to turn it down? Heck no, Im actually glad my dad is WILLING to help me out(even though I will get student loans). Does that make me a selfish prick? No it doesnt, it just makes me realize that my dad is offering to help so I can have a better future.

leeching off your parents for ten extra years is "magical" somehow?

And as for buying the house, mine dropped about 25k, I talked them down another 8k, and I've got a decent, non-adjustable rate. I'm happy enough with that scenario.

Or try "has own hardware based synth/recording studio in home, who has spent the last 4 years sinking money into it so that it's all paid for and not financed and doesn't feature cop out short cuts like "all in one" computer studio b.s. that most people try to pass off as a "studio"

But hey, if your little scenario makes your meaningless existence more pleasing to you, carry on being a dumbass who does nothing constructive nor relevant. ;)

I believe these people are what we call Basement Dwelling Losers.

Or just Basement Dwellers, for short. The "loser" part is implied.

I have an extended family member who is college educated, over 30 and still lives in his parents' basement.

There are only two excuses for such a situation:

1. His parents are about 200 years old and need somebody to help them around the house.

2. His life was derailed through no fault of his own, and he needs a place to stay while he gets back on track.

Actually, there's a third excuse, but it doesn't apply to anyone over 25 yo. It's "attending college full time and cannot afford to live in a dorm or an apartment".
