"Jack" was risky.

Whatever.

They've all seen their better days.

Now they're all parodies of themselves.

DeNiro has fallen so far from what he was with his "Analyze This, That, Whatever" movies that it's a sad joke. Nicholson is a little better. I still respect Pacino.

But Coppola? Not just grapes, subby. He also founded Zoetrope, one of the literary journals out there that actually matters, and the virtual studio he runs through its website is pretty damn impressive. It's not like the guy's just been sitting around.

Apparently growing sour grapes.

Nicely done, sir.

He must have some very big grapes to make that claim.

Coppola, and all of the actors he is bashing, have all done great work. They've earned a chance to relax and let others take the risks. I usually avoid their movies now because they get cast in them for the name appeal, not for what they can bring to the role, and I find that insulting to the actors' integrity.

...and let's face it, these guys are getting kinda crusty lookin'

Is the Jack - Redux dvd out yet?

I hope it has commentary and deleted scenes.

I gotta go with Francis on most of this one. DeNiro's been parodying himself for the past 15 years, Pacino's been unintentionally parodying himself for that long.
But Nicholson? Man, he's still got it.

What is a real insult is the recognition these guys sometimes get for what in effect are parodies of themselves acting-wise ie, Jack Nicolson in The Departed.

I don't mind them making lightweight movies for the bucks, but to keep thinking these guys are still creating memorable characters like in their films of old is a farking joke.

The list of awards and nominations Jack got for The Departed is pathetic.

Also, his wine sucks ass.

What? What is he smoking?

Didn't he see Hide and Seek? What about Insomnia?

oh...wait...

I'd like to read the entire interview. Maybe the statements are bit out of context. Maybe they were pushing him to say something negative about the actors.

2007-10-17 07:33:18 PM
I thought the swedish version of insomnia was better [than pacino's]. and coppola's great gatsby negated the godfather. godfather iii negated half of ii. so he's got half a movie and a magazine. still not too bad.

Agreed, they're all going downhill.

The sad thing is there's no one really waiting to fill their shoes.

Pocket Ninja: He also founded Zoetrope, one of the literary journals out there that actually matters

Eh, the only real talent that's come out of Zoetrope is the guy who wrote the 25th hour. And really, becoming a script doctor for X-Men 3 really isn't the height of literary importance.

Psh, doing The Bucket List wasn't risky for Nicholson? Surely ye jest! Dying old codgers living like 20-somethings until they die, no CHANCE the Academy eats that syrupy shiat up with a spoon and tosses statues at it!

It's pretty decent, IMHO.

However, here are some shiatty things about his winery:

1) One year, the winery gave out slippers (w/ the company logo) as a Christmas bonus to all the employees.

2) I know people who have been there, and they told me that the entire place has one big farkin attitude....like you should be grateful that you're at their winery.

/Used to work in the wine industry.

He's right about the actors. No risk whatsoever.

For about 20 years

Coppola's right, but so what. Pretty much everyone in this thread is right as well, but so what. These guys all had a good 20 or so years in an industry that usually eats it's young and spits them out, now (for the last 10 or 15 years) are probably coasting and taking roles that are more fun for them as opposed to being risky. There is also not a whole lot of roles for these guys to stretch out in anymore.

They are all old and basically this happens with most old people. This is how republicans are made.

Coppola told GQ magazine that Al Pacino and Robert De Niro -both in his Godfather trilogy - and Jack Nicholson had been spoilt by success and lost the fire that had made them raging bulls.

"I met both Pacino and De Niro when they were really on the come," he said.

That could have been worded a bit better.

I've drunk one of his reds, didn't seem too bad. Then again, it's hard for me to hate the plonk.

2007-10-18 07:26:02 AM
Risks? What does that even mean? Pacino doesn't do enough base jumping?

All those guys have been playing the exact same character their whole careers. With the exception of Deniro in Stardust. That was just farked up.

anal brazil men: "Jack" was risky.

How does the same director responsible for the genius that is both Godfather I and II and then Apocalypse Now go and make Jack?

I mean, shiat, he had the name, the power, and the studio backing to make any film he wanted...he makes Jack..and Peggy Sue Got Married.

WTF?
