No, it's because you killed your daughter*

(*: even if the parents didn't actually do the killing - by accident or deliberately - they might as well have by leaving her alone while they had a nice dinner. Asses.)

If my daughter went missing, the last thing I would be worried about is how Hot people think I am.

I hope her daughter is safe and unharmed somewhere, but this shallow qoont deserves to sweat it out for a while longer.

Sometimes parents make mistakes with their kids. I once mentioned to a woman not to let her toddler chew on some plastic wrapping off some store-bought product to avoid a choking incident.

Going to dinner while leaving kids in hotel room? Ignorant, thoughtless, maybe, but criminal? Tough call. Just have to see where this goes.

Valid point. I guess I may be a little harsh on this one, but the real problem I have with this case is that the behaviour of the parents has seemed extremely unusual from the beginning.

I mean, I've seen a lot of trauma back in the day, and there are common languages cues and behaviours that are almost 100% shared across people in cases like this. These parents do not exhibit any of the normal "ticks" that one would expect to see.

In other words, in my mind I thought they were directly or indirectly responsible for their daughter's death from the moment I saw them interviewed - and as time has gone on my view has become more and more reinforced by their ongoing behaviour. They're good at this, but not that good... although the bungled police investigation may well see them off the hook (a la the Jon Benet case).

Hell, I'd love to be wrong about them, but something has felt really, really out of place from the beginning.

Paulseta Hell, I'd love to be wrong about them, but something has felt really, really out of place from the beginning.

I had the same though immediately.

1) I couldn't believe they left the kids alone in a strange hotel room. I would think if the kids woke up, they'd be terrified, or tear the place apart. My nieces can't be trusted for 2 seconds by themselves not to destroy things at that age.

2) All the pictures they were showing of the little girl after it happened, she didn't look happy. I've since seen a few where she was sort of smiling... but it just struck me as weird the main pics provided to the media to find her, she looked simply blank. No typical smiling, splashing, clapping, happy tot pics.

3) Parents' reaction. You'd have to drug me up one side of the street and down the other if this happened to my baby. They calmly gave news conferences. It also struck me as a little off.

Now the mother says she's being scrutinized because she has small boobs? WTF?!

I don't get it.

Asshat parents leave kids alone in a hotel room while they go out for drinks and food?

And we are supposed to feel sorry for them?

They are horrible parents. Why should we believe anything they say?

Also, not to bring out the race card, but would this story get the same attention if they weren't white? Would the parents get sympathy if they were black or arab?

Ummm.. Am I missing something here, weren't these parents indited by the police?

I've thought foul play from the very start.... no sign of forced entry, the other kid(s) were unharmed and still sleeping, video camera footage turned up nothing....

Fark her.... and her husband... and anyone that still believes someone other then the parents did something to this little girl.

Yeah, I used to work with a chick who was convinced every other woman on the planet disliked her because they were "intimidated" by her because she was "an attractive intelligent professional."

Now, let me tell you straight up... IF she were attractive, I would gladly admit it, because the statement is still asinine either way... BUT

She wasn't terribly attractive. She was a cougar on the threshold of 40, struggling with her weight, who had terrible fashion sense across the board... Her clothes were loud and obnoxious. (stuff like neon pink tops with lime green shoes, leopard prints, etc.) Her make-up was just short of Tammy Faye. And her hair was like this hacked diagonal cut with a mix of blonde and black that made her look like Cruella Deville.

As for intelligent, we used to get together to share stories of stupid shiat she said and did.

As for professional, she was in sales, not very good at it, and frequently made the company look bad with the stupid shiat she said and did.

People disliked her because (besides being stupid) she was totally obnoxious and tenaciously self-absorbed... like all-star team material... Every conversation was about her, and if someone else was talking she tuned out until she could sense a way to make the conversation about her again.

About the only thing she had going for her was big cans that she put very prominently on display with very tight, very low cut shirts... And I will give her that. Big cans are always great.

Yet, she was 100% sincere in her assessment... She absolutely believed it without one ounce of doubt.

Don't get me wrong... I'd have done her, (Did I mention her cans?) but I would NOT have been proud of it.

I did read the article, and as much as its fun to kick the parents of murdered / missing children when they are down - where did she say she was too hot?

The inflammatory headline in the trash rag doesn't match the dialogue of the story.

She and her husband are the 'haves.' They're pretty people, rich, with attractive white children. It's hard to feel sympathy when those who clearly have it all lose some of it.

I'm still holding out hope they didn't do it. It was a kidnapping in human trafficking and the girl in that fuzzy pic was the little girl. But, still... slim hope.

They went off to have a topless dinner. They have those things? just weird.

I read part of the article, and I thought she was saying they are being mean to her was because she was not motherly looking enough (boobs not big enough, hips not wide enough, etc.) In other words, she is saying she is not hot.

But she also says it is getting a lot of attention because of how they dressed and prettied their daughter. In other words, she is saying her daughter is hot.

2007-10-17 01:02:00 AM
That article is kinda bullshiat. No where in it is the woman quoted as saying she's "too hot" - the journalist said that and they drew that conclusion from her saying that if she was more motherly looking then she wouldn't be getting so much scrutiny, and of course it's not a direct quote but a quote from someone else who heard it second hand.

Glad to see journalistic integrity is alive and well ;)

Anyway, she's probably right. People draw their own conclusions based on someone's looks all the time. If she looked more like your average middle aged mother, people would be cutting her some more slack. However, she looks fit and evidently likes to party with her husband, so it's apparent that she must be a bad mother.

Just think about that whole Scott Peterson thing a few years back. There were jurors at the trial who told people after the fact that when they first saw Scott they couldn't believe that he could be guilty of what the prosecutor said he was - all because he had a boyish, good looking, middle class white dude face.

It still didn't change the fact that he chopped up his wife into little pieces, decapitated her and threw her in the bay - but hey, people's first impressions don't take into account anything like... well how a person really is.
