Authorities also were seeking Stiles on an unrelated warrant issued last year charging him with fleeing to avoid prosecution on allegations he groped a 6-year-old girl in 2003.

The district attorney said Stiles vowed in the past not to be taken alive by police.

cutters1981: From the article

The man who turned the tape in, Darrin Tuck, 26, was arrested last month on a probation violation charge, and was likely to face pornography charges, Beckett said.

Have I missed something here? If I found a video of someone doing something this sick, should I just pretend I didn't see it, and walk away?

No, but don't keep it for months and show it to people.

I believe he kept it a while and police presume he was either lending it out or watching it, which is possession.

she has no memory of the crime? wow.

/i guess he's got that going for him...

While it'd be nice for him to get killed in prison, I think the reality isn't the same as what TV/movies make it out to be. I don't think many of the people in prison are going to give a shiat what his crime was.

People in prison aren't exactly there because they're the paragon of virtue, they are there for similar unethical reasons up to and including murder (and while it is definitely more "ick" factor, it's hard to say that molestation is worse than murder, because after all the child still is able to go on living).

Actually...the child molesters are usually kept in seperate areas, because the murderers and the rapists dont take kindly to people who hurt little kids. There are still "ranks" of scumbags... and a ped is lower on the totem pole.

I think he should be impaled with said pole.

Perfect Castaway

I think all hes pointing out is that there is a reason we have a judicial system. I don't sympathize with him, especially in light of the very damning evidence, but this week a man was exonerated for the rape and murder of his niece (new window), 14 years after the fact.

Imagine knowing him at the time and hoping and receiving your wish that he was gunned down. Then imagine learning 14 years later that the victim died of natural causes and that the autopsy was botched. The more severe the charge, the more measured we need to be in making sure we're right in condemning people. Otherwise, I would suggest that the most cherished and crucial social skill of being able to determine right from wrong is absent for all involved.

The one thing I do agree with, however, is that some abusers are socially dysfunctional and will be abusers for life. For these people, life in jail, I say. I would hate to be the brave people who are responsible with assessing whether somebody has come to see the error of their ways or not.

But it ain't black and white. Many abusers were abused themselves, and there is no magical "are you going to do this again" test.

If somebody wants to shoot him, he or she is just as psychopathic as they are. Hell, why not follow the statistical trends and shoot the abused to shortcut the cycle?

I was abused, and the last thing many abuse victims need is another moron suggesting that people just want to feed their basest emotions, whether it be lust or revenge, without feeling bad about it.

Give him a fair trial (not that much of a trial will be needed...he videotaped himself doing something so horrific I don't even care to think about it, much less type it), and sentence him to prison. Throw him in general population, and make sure everybody knows what he did. Problem solved.

While I am all for snarking and throwing insults, at least give a girl a decent warm-up. Its just plain rude to pull a comment like that from thin air, especially since the creature in question has never posted on a thread with me before (that I can recall), much less exchanged words.

There is no warm up for Fark. You jump into the race or get "schooled" quite quickly. Some arguements are (or many) very personal to people. Deeper discussions take 12 hours or so, but that isn't quite the environment. And there are other incidents.

StopArrestingMe: Child sex offenders have it worse than other inmates, but the stories of how much worse are way embellished.

Dahmer met his end by the hands of another inmate, this guy seems like he'd be as 'exceptional'.

I do think it highly unlikely that guards would intentionally toss him in with the general population, "just to see what'd happen" like some are suggesting though. That just seems like a recipe to cause a full on riot if others saw fit to take advantage of the chaos. Probably the last thing the guards would want would be the anger and violence to escalate, it's their fleshy, stabbable bits that have to go in and calm it down.

Sorry I can't join-in with the "Ha, ha! He's gonna get raped in prison" brigade. I don't want his big, ugly prison rapist to get his jollies any more than I want Stiles to get his jollies.

I want prisoners kept in line. Prison is supposed to be their place of punishment, not their own little city with their own little rules and their own perverted "code of honor."

The guy who killed Dahmer was a certified psycho. He also killed another inmate who was in for a 'regular crime' (murdering his wife) at the same time he killed Dahmer. I wouldn't consider it a relevant example. Geoghan's death would be relevant though. Still rare.

Always easy to be an internet tuff guy unless it happens to someone you know. Screwing a two year old? I would have shot him already. I don't need a judge in this case. I AM the judge.

And you have no respect for due process. Which is entirely un-american.

It takes one kind of asshat to rape a two year old. It takes another kind to make a posting like the one I'm quoting. They are not equal, but they are both examples of asshattery.

/you're welcome

Point taken, I was working from foggy memory of past events. I suppose that both cases being national news emphasize how relatively rare homicide in prison is though, but I was never really disputing that. It's probably in neither the guard's or inmate's interest to let prison violence get out of control.
