Superintendent Michele Lawrence is pushing for an organic comeback. Construction will soon start on a new cafeteria, which is expected to open at the beginning of the next school year.

So the students don't want to eat in the school cafeteria, they are currently in the red from a previous attempt at turning students on to organic food and they have already experienced a 33% drop in student facility use? I know! They should build a new cafeteria! Who cares about spending the money for education?

DUH!
I hate you, Kenny... ( >< )

"...where the cafeteria had been unusable since the 1989 Loma Prieta earthquake. "

They still haven't bothered to fix the cafeteria after 13 years?!?!?!

In my experience Organic Food is generally way too expensive and it does not taste that great. You can buy good quality food without going organic.

Damn hippies. Always ruining the effort that the administration puts forth.

What do teenagers eat if given the chance? Healthy food, which tastes kinda crappy; or Junk food, which tastes good and is cheaper.

Ollie: That is funny!

Dumb farkers, they should just invite the local roach coaches to supply the kids lunch. Hello, anyone their, duh they bring their own kitchen with them, and the food is cheaper than the schools old broken down cafeteria.

"I mean, do you like to eat lunch at your desk or do you like to get outside for a little while?"

Hmmm...

Fark... fresh air...

Fark...

Oh, jesus...they get to walk over to food courts for lunch?? At my high school we weren't allowed off campus. We ate what the cafeteria served and that was it. If you didn't like it, you brought a bag lunch. No "organic" foods either....burgers, fries, chicken. That was it. Why are people in California and Florida so farking loopy? Is it the heat?

Organic food tastes bad and spoils after a day. And it's expensive.

The only thing I'll eat that's grown in shiat is mushrooms. And only the psychedelic kind.

If you had read the article you would realize that the cafeteria had been damaged beyond repair in an earthquake. Oh, and to bad for you my high school had an open campus policy too, and it was 3 blocks from the beach, it's just a matter of trust.

hippie fark heads, give liberals a bad name.

2002-09-28 09:42:29 PM
Not a big fan of organic food, but it has to beat the pizza and lima bean lunches I remember from my high school days.

2002-09-28 09:42:59 PM
Your high school had a cafeteria? Mine had a store that resold chips and chocolate bars bought from a big-box store, and vile hazardous-waste hotdogs. Sometimes one of the clubs - Drama, Band, sports teams - would sell pizza or subs or whatnot from a table in the multipurpose room.

hippie fark heads: Never had a problem with them, always too stoned to worry about.

liberals: Not to bad but be very careful around them (can't trust em')

screaming liberals: Bad, very bad, this is a hippie that has gone straight and gotten off drugs

Bondith:
When I call it a cafeteria, I mean it was like a cafeteria to us. It was really the town dump. We used to *dream* of having vile hazardous-waste hotdogs.

My HS had chimichangas that would clear the classrooms later in the day. Also we had Aussiedogs(tm) a sesame bun with a hole punched lengthwise and a bbq sauce slathered sausage inserted(yes, very obscene looking but tasty).

Healthy foods are discouraged by the American Trial Lawyers Association - you can't make a fortune off of lawsuits from healthy stuff (at least no way has been found yet but wait a while)like you can from lawsuits on fast food joints.

Newsflash: Kids would hate filet mignon if it were served to them on a plastic tray in a high school cafeteria.

As someone who lives in Berkeley. I can honestly say this:

Those of you who bash Berkeley have never been here, and have no clue what this city is like. You watch Fox News, and believe whatever is spoon fed to you. Mostly, O'Riley shoving down everybody's (by that I mean the right wing bible thumpers who actually watch Fox News) throat that Berkeley is a horrible place.

I'll tell ya what. It's a hell of a lot better than any city in Texas.

Don't forget what Gene Ray says about the media:

"Evil media erroneous linear
Time deadly to family Cube.
Media will eat shiat before a
Time Cube ad is allowed to
be published to inform the
public of a Cubic creation."

i love how teachers and school board members always do what they think is right and never care what the kids think. when your in school the bill of rights is banned from schools. there is no more free speech, no democracies (except for the student government whihc has no real power). christ and in san diego they say home schooling is now illegal. the schools are failiing the classes are over crowded, the inner city schools are seriously farked, and they say home schooling is bad? christ let them learn at shcool and have them take a midterm and final. they need to get rid of some subjects in school. make science and math optional. no inner city kid is going to use math except to count how many bags of crack he has. unless your a math teacher a scientist or an accountant you dont even need algebra. and who the fark is ever going to use biology or chemistry? very few. make it optional. give the basics of american history and government and maybe civics and that would be useful. teaching us about old politics that nobody could give a fark about isnt gonna help us in life. english is also screwy. if you can talk right with proper grammer and not know why, then fine. i dont want to know about compound sentences or any of that shiat. vocational classes is whats needed, give the kids some skills that they can use to get a decent job. my school got rid of autobody shop to make room for english classes. there goes an opportunity for a kid to get a good job. now hes going to fail english and be a janitor. jesus schools are farked.

Maybe he could be a school janitor (I hear they get paid good)

Rocksurfer: "If you had read the article you would realize that the cafeteria had been damaged beyond repair in an earthquake."

I did read the article...it was damaged in 1989!! It takes them 13 years to fix their cafeteria??

"Oh, and to bad for you my high school had an open campus policy too, and it was 3 blocks from the beach, it's just a matter of trust."

It wasn't a matter of trust at my high school. It was in the middle of the 9th Ward of New Orleans (the past home of rappers Master P and Juvenile)...if you walked off campus too far you might not come back (I'm serious, we had three students held up at gun-point my freshman year).

Lemon:

Sorry you're offended that Fox News doesn't lean so far to the left that it's crooked like every other "news" org.

And as far as Berkeley sucking big balls, you guys have done an excellent job of making the rest of us normal Americans hate you and your wierd arse city.

we should expell berkly from the united states then assasinate someone famous and blame them. then declare war on them and wipe them all out, i mean everysingle one of those liberals. i think doing it that way is legal.

2002-09-29 12:20:25 AM
Haha. Berkeley...anything to do with Berkeley is a joke. The Man Show is taken more seriously than Berkeley.

with your post you're being just as guilty of generalization as anyone on this post, ive never watched fox news, and also, with your allusion to berkely being better than any city in texas, your assuming the only critics of the customs of the residents of berkely are people from towns similiar for the most part in idealogy to southern and western states.

the fact is, berkely does have more weirdo tofu eating, anti-anything even remotely related to corporations type people than any other city, which is ironic because the average residential property value is something like 300 thousand dollars, and you people spend more money on unneccessary luxury items(organic apples cost quite alot more than normal ones) than almost any other place in the country then you turn around and say that america is on the decline because of excess and greed, hypocrits.

have you been to every city in texas?

monev:

very funny post but misguided i think, im liberal, and i think the berkely freaks give the rest of us moderates a bad name.

also, this prolly belongs in my Boobies but i forgot, the reason berkely seems so great to a mis guided pseudointellectual liberal type is because poor people cant generally afford to live there(and as we all know, crime is a socio-economic mallady blah blah blah)

A friend of mine has a sister that lives in Berkeley, she called it BESERKeley.

Jesus, people, I go to school here, at least spell the damn city's name right.

It's BERKELEY
B
E
R
K
E
L
E
Y

And it's "Berzerkely"

Please.

In anycase, the city has its share of potheads and such, but I don't necessarily think it's all that abnormal.. it's fairly obvious from many of the ignorant statements from this forum that few of you have actually come to the city before and seen what it's like. I do have to agree that my idea of Berkeley was also pretty much socialized from the media as "that one place that just smokes pot and protests stuff." But I mean, after being here for two years, it's really not all that bad, and it's really great to see such a free flow of ideas, both liberal and conservative.

As for the organic food issue... people buy them because they don't want their food grown with chemicals and whatnot.. whether or not it's a necessary or unnecessary thing is really left up to the buyer.. It really is odd seeing people so judgmental of other peoples' choices and what they choose to do -- do you really want people generalizing your city a certain way? People tend to choose the cities they live in because they like the enviroment, does that mean we should hate someone because of the city they live in, even without actually having lived there?

It's really easy to make generalizations, but I mean, try to at least have some sort of first hand experience with these sort of things before passing judgement so quickly.

What annoys me is how stupid things like this in Berkeley always make national news. Stupid shiat happens around the country on a daily basis, but ANYTHING that happens in the bay area that's stupid, espeically in Berkeley, gets picked up an run on Headline News. I think it's a goverment propaganda effort to make us all look like idiotic freaks to the rest of the country.

Well, we are freaks, but we're not stupid. Anyway, my point is- WHY IS THIS HEADLINE NEWS? This is ridiculous. It's not newsworthy. It's just an eccentric little town getting too much publicity. There's tons of other eccentric towns, even in California, that don't get nearly this much shiat.

That said, Oakland kicks Berkeley's ass. We own you guys. We keep it real. We're not spoiled little rich kid whiners. I can only dis Berkeley because I live 2 miles from it, tho. All you people in Texas can shut the fark up, because all of us owns all of you. Word.

Even Berkeley has to raise the lard-bucket fat-ass Americans of tomorrow.

And yes, I've been to Berkeley. I found it interesting that the newspaper "Socialist Worker" actually appears under its real title; even here in the People's Republic of Cambridge they feel the 's' word is a marketing no-no, and retitle it "Revolutionary Worker"...

Hmm. Who the fark eats pork tacos? Stupid sexy hippies.
