Internet. Movies. DVDs. Video games. Oh, and reruns.

Also, it's autumn. Which for us in New England, means we can go outside and enjoy the weather and the changing seasons.

Go ahead and strike. Knock yourselves out. Maybe when you come back, you'll have better ideas than giving a group of farking cavemen a sitcom.

2007-10-09 05:16:14 PM
What he said.

2007-10-09 05:16:18 PM
the closest i come to affecting me would be...

wait, no it wouldn't in the slightest

2007-10-09 05:17:54 PM
I'd say US TV is already "crippled".

2007-10-09 05:19:18 PM
Dunder Mifflin, this is Pam...

short answer:

long answer:
noooooooo

Upside to the strike: Many crappy TV shows may go off the air.
Downside to the strike: Fark TV may be sucked into the void left by their absence.

FOR GOD'S SAKE STRIKE A DEAL!!

2007-10-09 05:19:49 PM
Christ, now we'll hear, at great length no doubt, from the "begs the question" police. Which begs the question: who gives a shiat?

2007-10-09 05:20:05 PM
"begging the question"

Fark you, smitty, fark you.

My congratulations on spotting the joke in the submitter's headline, and then re-making it.

/Which reminds me, US TV seems pretty crippled as it is!

Let em strike, buncha commies.

2007-10-09 05:20:38 PM
There would be no 24 and Lost :(

2007-10-09 05:21:52 PM
If only that was what begging the question meant.

\sorry, pert perve

2007-10-09 05:22:22 PM
Hooray! More reality shows!

2007-10-09 05:22:24 PM
ITYM "raising the question".

2007-10-09 05:22:38 PM
Leave my Lost and House alone and I'll be happy.

2007-10-09 05:22:49 PM
Could you imagine what would happen if American Idol got canceled this year?

I honestly wouldn't be surprised if riots broke out in major cities across the country. People wouldn't be able to handle it.

2007-10-09 05:22:59 PM
The last major writers strike was "pre internet".

I wonder if the show runners would maybe now try to get some "fan fiction" nuts to write some scripts while the 'real' writers go on strike. That would be pretty interesting, in the same way the 1987 scab NFL games were "interesting".

hokie95: \pert perve

Wait, so you're saying it's kosher?

2007-10-09 05:23:08 PM
Captain Hollywood: There would be no 24 and Lost :(

Initially I had the same thought about Lost, but since I'm already waiting until frickin' February for Lost to come back, I don't know if I'll still care... Where they hell do they get off?!

2007-10-09 05:24:06 PM
It could be said to raise the question. Perhaps prompt the question. It most definitely doesn't beg the question.

But have fun with that illiteracy thing.

2007-10-09 05:24:26 PM
Does this affect shows not filmed in the United States? I.E. if a show is filmed in Canada the actors will still work?

2007-10-09 05:24:29 PM
There are still writers who will admit that they work for TV?

2007-10-09 05:24:50 PM
Is it going to affect the Daily Show or Colbert Report?

I have a TV, but it isn't hooked up to anything. I do, however, wake myself up every damn morning to the internet uploads of last night's DS and CB... and if those are gone, so help me God, I will smite each and every person responsible.

Seriously. I work for a nonprofit, and spent two straight weeks working to get a veto-proof majority to pass SCHIP. If it wasn't for those two shows, I'd be showing up to work drunk every day. Laughter, eases the pain.

2007-10-09 05:24:53 PM
"Nobody ever went broke underestimating the taste of the American public."
Unfortunately, TV execs think that's a CHALLENGE.

2007-10-09 05:25:04 PM
Ditto. Aside from Lost, I'm apathetic.

But keep your hands off my new season of Lost.

2007-10-09 05:25:34 PM
They won't go through with it. These celebrities live off making money for the most inane details of their lives. "Here's a picture of (insert random celebrity here) walking the dog." "Here's a picture of (random celebrity) getting out of rehab. For the fiftieth time this week."

They can't survive one day without telling us something about themselves for a quick buck. Fark 'em.

2007-10-09 05:25:38 PM
I like TV and all, but I could give two shiats if they strike. No new episodes of The Office and My Name Is Earl for a few months? Oh well. I'll find something else to do. There's a lot of books on my shelf I need to read.

2007-10-09 05:26:49 PM
dletter: I wonder if the show runners would maybe now try to get some "fan fiction" nuts to write some scripts while the 'real' writers go on strike. That would be pretty interesting, in the same way the 1987 scab NFL games were "interesting".

I don't think the underage indestructible cheerleader gang rape episode would make it past the censors.

2007-10-09 05:27:06 PM
Well, if Hollywood strikes there is always YouTube, or more importantly my videos on youtube. I am sure that I will be entertaining to most people. In fact, after Hollywood is done striking I will have my own agent and everything...

/Well I can dream can't I?

CowboyNinjaD: Could you imagine what would happen if American Idol got canceled this year?

The average American IQ would not decline?

2007-10-09 05:27:36 PM
Let them strike, it'll be resolved before tyhe next filming season begins...not like there's anything really worth watching this season.

2007-10-09 05:27:43 PM
I remember the last strike. Whole bunch of actors had full beards when they accepted their Emmys. As there was no TV in production, they didn't have to comply with their studio rules about facial hair. Tony Danza had a beard, Tom Selleck had one. Angela Lansbury's was incredible.

2007-10-09 05:27:57 PM
Um... yeah. TV has been much better the last three years, even though Reality tv and slow game shows pepper it like... pepper.

2007-10-09 05:28:08 PM
There's only one season of BSG left anyway, and it's already filmed.

So who the hell cares.

Anyone wanna buy a TV when the last season of BSG is over?

2007-10-09 05:30:31 PM
What's TV?

I'm going to take that fully on the chin, as I kinda thought to myself "oh, duhh, that's the farking joke" after posting.

/ZZZZZZZZZ

I don't watch TV so I'm getting a cock-punch from these retorts.

2007-10-09 05:31:54 PM
I almost forgot, I am not the person in the videos. Those people are the rest of my family. I am simply the person holding the camera and doing the editing.

that is always fun...

My favorite shows never have very long runs anyway (deadwood, the shield is almost gone, and I fear for it's always sunny in philadelphia). I'm not sure if the two FX shows would be affected, and if not, I couldn't care less.

Also, there's so much bad television right now, I hope everyone who does strike gets canned and they hire all new writers.

2007-10-09 05:32:52 PM
I can't stand any show that has a laugh track. That is pretty much any recent 'comedy' show.

What the heck is a 'BSG'?

Does this affect Discovery and the History Channel?

Two "Lost" entreaties so far, hmm. I've seen s01e01, and it looked okay. But I'm scared off of the rest of it by descriptions that boil down to "and then some shiat happened that doesn't make any sense." I won't suffer cheap narrative stupidity, and I've sworn off of "Battlestar Galactica" for that reason.

So tell me: Is "Lost" worth my time?

/derail!

Well, I think the short season of Jericho is in the can, so CBS has that ready to go if any regular season show flops, folds or strikes.

/ sort of hoping they do soon, so I can see what happened on Jericho.

RodneyToady; Maybe when you come back, you'll have better ideas than giving a group of farking cavemen a sitcom

uh, that show was cooked up by an adguy outta Richmond, Virginia

DBD_Smeagol is correct-there's a heavier pinko quotient in the WGA than other guilds for some reason...

BSG = Battlestar Gallactica.

/can't spell right now.

It makes me angry just looking at that picture...
