Aren't space vehicles designed to be small and light? Who has room for that crap?

Space money will obviously be in the form of credit. NERDS.

Actually I have a revolutionary idea if you can't use coins or credit cards. What about... wait for it... paper money! We could print these pieces of paper that we could use as currency. I know, I'm brilliant, no one else could have thought of such a cunning plan. Although, they do say there's nothing worse than a paper cut...

Seems to me like carrying a pocketful of these things would be problematic at best.

It's good to know that I'm not the only one not impressed with the new series.

Except Grace Park. She can enslave me to the Cylons any day.

Professor Fraser told BBC News: "With an inflatable space hotel, from Bigelow Aerospace, under development in the US, and Virgin Galactic developing SpaceShipTwo, there will be better access to space than there has been.

For some reason the idea of an inflatable space station does not fill me with confidence.

So much for using my cornhole as international currency...guess I will have to stick with using it as US currency.

This deserves the img1.fark.com tag.

From the side-view picture they look bulky. Who wants bulky money? And furthermore the little white thing in the center may be Teflon, but the shiny clear stuff on the outside certainly is not! Acrylic or Polycarbonate, I'm guessing.

Quid is already a commonly used name for money in England. It would confuse conversation in that part of the world.

Why couldn't they just go with credits like in SW?

At least 10,000 of those could buy you a ship.

And people laughed when I designed a space wallet the size of a piggy bank and a space piggy bank the size of an ATM. "People will never want to haul those out of atmosphere." they said. Ha! Well the joke's on them. Now they'll have to.

FTA - "Anything with sharp edges, like coins, would be a risk to astronauts..."

For sure, like I'm always getting cuts on my fingertips from the "sharp edges" of the coins in my pocket....I guess that explains the hole in my pocket.

I'd rather pay with Buckazoids.

No shiat, Sherlock. Especially as the (British) article finished with quoting the currency as being valued as "£6.25 to the Quid".

It looks like Space Strippers are going to have to be up on the Wynona Rider ping-pong trick if they want to keep any money.

You want obscure.. way back in the day, there was an episode of Wonder Woman that actually dealt with this pressing issue. It turned out that minds were downloaded out of unwilling sentients and used as currency.

Now that I think about it, anything with mass will be expensive to carry around space. The more money people lug around, the more fuel and the greater the cost, even if they're dippy little plastic chips. Wouldn't it make more sense to just do electronic debit cards or something? Although even those cards would add to the take-off weight... maybe everybody should just have a PIN code they could use anytime they buy something.

Or go with the honor system. Take anything you want, but they'll keep a running tab that you will pay when you return.
