I have a daughter and 3 step daughters. The oldest of which is 15...

Dear diary.... JACKPOT!

/Giggity!

farfigneugan:I can't really fault her. She did what she needed to do to protect her kid when he was unable to protect himself and the school wasn't willing to do their duty to protect him.

Thirded.... is that a word?
Brings a whole new meaning to way to man up there Nancy.

SchlingFo: She protected her son, and it only cost her a misdemeanor. That's a pretty cheap price for ensuring the safety of your kid.

I think this is the point being contested...

sparrow794: I'd rather read this article than read an entirely different article 6 years from now where the kid who's been bullied his whole life shoots up his entire school with an assault rifle.

This.

2007-10-05 12:30:39 PM
"Briggs' son was repeatedly being bullied on the school bus and that she wanted to put a stop to the bullying, according to police."

OH! Well then, she should've given her kid the gun so he could man up and deal with own damn problems. Parents these days, sheesh

2007-10-05 12:30:48 PM
jjorsett: The proper response is to have your kid point out the bullies, then hire some large kids to beat the snot out of them with the promise of much worse if they ever think about messing with your kid again. That's a plan that couldn't possibly go bad.

Funny story. My 4 year old came home crying from the park because some "big kid" (turned out to be 8) was throwing sand in her face repeatedly. I walked across the street and confronted the kid. I told him "I would never lay a finger on you, but that little girl has seven older brothers and sisters, and if you ever mess with her again they will make sure you are the one who ends up crying."

He lives a block away but never even comes to that park anymore.

Would make a perfect Ha-Ha guy pic.

Anyone?

burndtdan: i would wager the kids mess with him more now. i know i would. that kid will never be anything but the freak with the crazy mom for the rest of his school career.

"Ha-ha, your mom is farking loonie!!"
"Ya, she's gonna pick me up after school gets out today..."
*gulp* "want my lunch money?"

SchlingFo: As I read it, there were multiple kids bullying her son. I don't expect anyone to fight off multiple people. No. That goes beyond what a kid should be asked to do to defend themselves. When it's multiple kids bullying one kid, the school needs to bring down the hammer.

The parents tried the route of the school. The school didn't give a fark. They just sent a letter to the parents who didn't give enough of a fark to get the kids to stop bullying her son.

A kid can't be expected to fight off multiple bullies.

They tried the approved route with the authorities who are entrusted with protecting her son while he's in the care of the school. That accomplished nothing.

She protected her son, and it only cost her a misdemeanor. That's a pretty cheap price for ensuring the safety of your kid.

You're right, it was multiple bullies. My post addressed that. There's often "multiple bullies". Hence where I said I often got my ass kicked, as do most kids.

I'm not saying the parents shouldn't get involved. I'm also not excusing the school. They should come down hard on these lil bastards.

But waving a gun around is retarded. Now my snowflake comes home and says a kids mom pointed a gun at him and his friends. So what do I do?

Introducing a weapon into this situation is asking to escalate it.

And just hope you don't have to "fight off multiple people" when the school can't "bring the hammer down" like...oh...I don't know...THE REST OF YOUR LIFE?

Fail.
Miserably.

Actually the most irresponsibe thing would have been actually shooting one of the kids. Just my 2 cents

burndtdan: you got the order of events backwards. she pulled the gun, the dad in response went to the principal, they sent home a note probably as a means of rumor control.

If that's true, then she did over-react. Going to the school should be the first step when multiple people are bullying your kid.

i would wager the kids mess with him more now. i know i would.

A gun in the face usually corrects bad behavior very quickly, especially when the person seems like a raging psycho.

Empty threats never accomplish anything other than demonstrating you know you can't handle the situation.

This is why women should be kept in the workforce after giving birth and the man should stay home. Because she will have a support group (Her male managers, other women) to keep her in check. Sorry ladies but men are better 'equipped' to defend the child against harm. Not to mention the whole post postpartum killing thing.

I have a daughter and 3 step daughters. The oldest of which is 15 and has begun dating. I am very tempted to head down to the school and take a swing at her boyfriend knocking his ass out.

While I might spend a night in jail and possibly end up with some community service it will forever be known that my daughters have that "psycho dad" who once beat the shiat out of a kid just because he was dating his daughter. This will keep the little hormone balls away from my daughters until they get to college?

My guess is that it will only force your daughter and step-daughters to be more secretive about their relationships.

That's your opinion, and it all comes down to the person.

Some people learn quickly. I learned not to mouth off to wiry old dudes in Tennessee bars. They don't seem to have a problem pulling a knife on you. Accordingly, if someone pulled a gun on me because I was farking with their kid, I'd stop farking with their kid.

Other people don't learn very quickly. They're likely to keep taunting the dynamite monkey.

"The thought of going after children with a gun would not cross my mind; she should not have done what she did," said the father of another child who rides the school bus.

Of course what she did is absolutely insane. But I'd be lying if I said didn't feel a small amount of smug satisfaction in my heart of hearts. No kid deserves to be bullied, especially not by multiple aggressors. In the middle-school culture of today, many of the little posers are wanna-be thugs and gangstas, and excessive exposure to the hip-hop/gangsta/street-thug culture has taught many of them that respect comes in the form of a gun. Maybe they'll learn that fear does not equal respect, now that they've looked down the business end of one.

You were a hormonally charged teen at one point, do you think someone's dad punching out the last boyfriend would stop you from trying to score? The reward would probably outweigh the risk.

jst3p: Empty threats never accomplish anything other than demonstrating you know you can't handle the situation.

Only a fool would consider a gun in the face to be an empty threat.

If someone sticks a gun in my face and tells me to hand over my wallet, they're getting the wallet. I'm not going to consider that to be an empty threat.

There's nobody more dangerous than a mother protecting her offspring. If they pull a gun on me, I'm going to take that as a very real threat to stay the hell away from her kid.

2007-10-05 12:44:03 PM
I'm against gun control but it is to be noted that just because one does not have a criminal record that doesn't mean they can be trusted with one. Unfortunately there is no way of finding all the crazies prior to the sale.

But given two equal choices I would pursue the tang that does not come with the risk of a psycho kid punching dad.

It was all tongue-in-cheek anyway.

So your the type of Dad that would drive your daughter to get Deface-il-ilzed on Saturday night when you though she was watching a movie with friends. She would bring you up as I am giving the money shot to her on her 19th birthday.

Wonder no more why her kisses sometimes tasted a little salty.

I agree with SchlingFo in that it was a minor price to pay AND the bullies will wonder how much of a psycho she really is. Most (not all) women do not know how to use a gun and will use them for shock value. She selected her best option in her opinion.

Yes, the bullies will probably continue. Yes, she could have accidentally shot someone's crotchfruit. But nothing happened at that particular point in the time-stream. It is another FLORIDA article and let's move on.

The only way to stop a bully is to beat the shiat out of him/her but make sure they start the fight. i am a second degree black belt in tai-kwan-do and jujitsu and the last time somebody picked on me was in fourth grade. i'm kind of small and a junior in high school but not even seniors or asshats dick with me because they remember how it will end. Martial arts are the only solution

Parents and teachers need to address the problems of bullying. This Mom had probably had it. It is disgusting how kids tease each other. It isn't harmless middle school teasing. This teasing is what leads to all the school shootings in the U.S.
