If Honda (or a dealer) doesn't buy this, they are farking idiots. Best promotional tool you could hope for.

/car if 4 years newer
//with 1/9 the mileage

Suck it, Detroit.

2007-10-02 09:44:37 AM
what kind of job does someone have that requires them to drive coast to coast? the down time and mileage reimbursement alone would be ten times the cost of an airplane ticket.

2007-10-02 09:48:04 AM
Sweet.

Bought a Honda Accord this summer.

Kanyon: Suck it, Detroit.

There's a chance that car was built in Marysville, Ohio, by American workers (who belong to a union).

/Rolled my Civic wagon, and it still ran like a charm.

Sales people that have stops all along the route.

This is why I love owning a Honda.

Civics rule.

I have a 2000 Chrysler 300M that's falling to pieces at 80,000 miles. Last week the driver's window fell out the the heater stopped working. I never should have given up my Camry, it would have over 250,000 miles on it by now.

2007-10-02 10:23:21 AM
That's a lot of miles

2007-10-02 10:25:13 AM
I should have bought a civic instead of my Saturn in 1997. I probably would still have it. Who am I kidding? After 180,000 miles I am sick of any car.

The Conqueror: what kind of job does someone have that requires them to drive coast to coast?

stuff that involves items that might be of concern to an airport luggage screener? buyer beware what lurks in the trunk.

It just goes to show you if you baby a Honda, it will last forever. I ran my 94 Civic with no real service other than what was absolutely completely necessary to keep it running, and the engine blew at 130k. We put a used engine in it, and it's still going. The AC doesn't work that well, but other than that it runs fine.

/next auto purchase is an Element

Element?

Dude...I can draw some wheels on a refrigerator box for you and save you some money if you want. =P

2007-10-02 10:34:31 AM
Man.. that's awesome.
I wish I didn't get bored with a car after 2 years.

2007-10-02 10:50:31 AM
I believe that much cross-country driving in a Civic is prohibited under the Geneva Convention. Oh, it wasn't really forced? Oh.

I realize that. My point was basically: "Japanese" cars > "American" cars

/2001 Civic owner
//great car

Al Bundy's not impressed.

I got a '73 Volvo 144 up to 300K miles on 2 clutches and 1 engine. Ran well when I traded it for a more gas efficient Nissan.

The steer horns mounted on the front were cool, too.

I wonder how many time he's replaced the transmission...

2007-10-02 11:13:27 AM
And American Car Companies really don't know why they cant sell any cars........

2007-10-02 11:13:35 AM
I'd buy it just to get it to 999999 and then sell it to a museum.

It may of been built in the US but it wasn't engineered in the US.

xtex: I wonder how many time he's replaced the transmission...

Wonder no longer - TFA comes to the rescue again! Will miracles never cease?!?

The car is on its ninth timing belt, ninth water pump, and fourth clutch. But the engine and transmission are original

xtex: I wonder how many time he's replaced the transmission...

Probably none. Not a whole lot to go wrong....

FTFA

The car is on its ninth timing belt, ninth water pump, and fourth clutch. But the engine and transmission are original, as are the floor mats.

Who in the hell gets "bored" with a car? It's just a tool. Do you get "bored" with your hammer also?

/I drive 'em until they won't drive any more.

And this my friends is why i have only owned Hondas

xtex: I wonder how many time he's replaced the transmission...

Original Engine and Transmission, 4th clutch (didn't rtfm?)

My 91 Accord died with about 350,000km on it. Head Gasket and body. Oh well.

NTidd: It may of been built in the US but it wasn't engineered in the US.

It may not have been engineered in the US, but the management structure that led to that kind of vehicle design/manufacture originated in the US.

/Suck it, all those who ignored Dr. Demming.

I got up to 225,000 out my 1990 Buick LeSabre. I bought it for $1600 when it had 115,000 miles and got eight good years out of it. Donated it recently. Lots of little stuff didn't work but the engine and transmission was still in good shape. Driving a Buick LaCrosse now.

/Yes, I'm over 50

I plan on buying a second Honda around Christmas... another Accord, probably. Maybe the CRV.

While I like those cars, nothing beats the quiet road ride of my Dodge truck or Yukon. They just drink the gas and as much as I drive, the savings in gas nearly pays for the smaller cars as long as I stick with the 4 cylinders.

My big vehicles are pretty much relegated to work-only status now.

GibbyTheMole: After owning one American-made turd after another, I've decided my next car WILL be a Honda.

I used to say I'd never own a North American built car. Now I have 2.

1984 VW Golf diesel -- made in Mexico
2002 Honda Odyssey -- made in Canada

900k on a gasoline engine? I would have only thought if it was diesel. Still skeptical....

2007-10-02 11:20:52 AM
I did 220,000 on a 1981 Mercedes 300TD... it was diesel and that thing was a tank...

but man, is that civic insane!!!!
