Just back from shea.

I think the best way to put what went wrong into words is this:

The mets, and their fans, started acting like they were the yankees, while playing like they were the mets.

Not only did they start taking stuff for granted, and trying to coast, but they acted immature during it, giving other teams that much more reason to want to beat us. The coaching failed us as well, as their sole job when you have talent like they do is to make sure they perform up to their level, and are mentally in the game. The mets weren't. I can plop a laptop in the dugout and have it manage the team by the book if that is going to be my coaching strategy, and it would have done a better job than randolph. Don't get me wrong, I like the guy, but he let us down the past few weeks making some bonehead moves, and failing to keep the team in line. While I think this was a great team he put together, minaya also failed us by failing to better our pitching at the deadline, which should have been a no brainer considering the injuries and age of our staff.

Congrats to the Phills, I'll be pulling for you guys, as you showed what a team that really wants it and trys for it can do. Best of luck.

Also big props to both the nats and the marlins, and both of your fans, for playing spoilers this year.

Me too. Was hoping to see the Cubs at Shea, but now I'll just have to drive down to Philly.

They were awful. And after the game the announcers starting quoting Mets players talking about how good they were and how they don't even have to try in order to win.

If that was their attitude, they deserved the losses

And TELEVISE IT????

Who the hell watches this stuff anymore?

Haha, a Cubs fan calling Sox and Yanks fans 'smack talkers'? The only smack we talk is to each other. Cubs fans just seem to hate everybody and go out of their way to let them know it. You do it with your suck ass Bears, too.

I think among MLB cities, Philly is sixth. NYC, LA, Chicago, Toronto, and Houston are all bigger.

Yeah, Boston, no market here at all for baseball. Unlike that rapid Blue Jay fan base! What the hell, Don?

2007-09-30 07:18:47 PM
Dear met fans,

I am truly sorry for your loss. I meant that sincerely. I know what it's like to have such high hopes all season long then have those hopes crushed at the end. It's frustrating and it's sad. I mean....my dad cried a little when the game was over today. I know it's just sports, but it's still kind of heartbreaking.

There was a time when I would have gloated like crazy over this. I must be getting old.

2007-09-30 07:19:52 PM

GimpyNip: Yeah, Boston, no market here at all for baseball. Unlike that rapid Blue Jay fan base! What the hell, Don?

Hey I was just talking population. Toronto has about a million more people than Boston. So does Houston.

Obviously Boston is more of a baseball town though.

Congrats to Phillies fans.

To be honest I wasn't even all that upset when the Mets finally flatlined today....my enthusiasm for this season was just completely beaten out of me over the last two weeks.

I'll be rooting for the Cubs. No one should have to wait 100 years to see a championship.

/Last time a team I cared about won anything was the 1990 NY Giants.

Mets and philly? meh. when something happens on the REAL coast, let me know. All that back east crap is so obscure nobody pays attention.

A Cubs / Red Sox series would be sweet. I'd even wish for the Cubs to win that one. But the reality is we will probably get an Arizona / Anaheim WS. In other words, thank god football has begun.
