There was some stupid white trash homeless women with 3 kids that would walk from the shelter to the park every day and would pass by my place of business. She would send her kids out (about the same age as the kids in that video) to steal stuff that was laying around. My employee saw it happen and we notified the police and they went looking for her. They never tried that on my street again. This woman in the video and her kids could be the same person. I have not seen them around here in about 5 months.

back in college when I worked at Wal-Mart, we had to make sure that the baby seats placed in the cart were not covering items. A favorite stealing method was to put a blanket on the bottom, then electronics, then another blanket then the car seat with a sleeping baby.

I could see how a stolen purse is about $1400 worth of property... I mean, the purse that they showed in the reinactment wasn't anything special but a designer handbag would set you back some. If someone took my physical purse, it would set me back about $700. Add in a cell phone, the cost of a wallet, lipgloss (at $25 a pop it can add up), cash you might have, keys and keychain, digital camera... it can add up.

Also wanted to add, when I worked in this one moderately high end store in Chicago... we used to have this lady that would regularly use her kid to help steal.

She would have her kid climb displays and cause general hazards and so salespeople would rush over to prevent an accident or prevent merchandise damage and all the while, Wonky Eye, would be stealing items and put them in her oversized hooded sweatshirts.

Right before I left, her newest scheme involved three little old ladies. Each one "needed help" and would pull and distract a salesperson while she stole. SO trashy!

I'd like to know why women carry purses in the first place. They may as well have a "mug me" sign strapped to their shoulders. I'm a broad and all I frickin' need is a small wallet. If I can't fit it in my wallet or in my shorts(or if my hubby doesn't wanna carry it), I don't carry it with me, simple as that. 'Course I guess it helps that we're both allergic to makeup, aerosol hairspray and perfume so that I don't need to carry lipstick and foundation, and the fact checkbooks are too farkin' outdated and bulky to carry in your back pocket (unless you're at Sam's Club or CostCo or wherever). Bonus when women are on their cell phones with their purses dangling willy-nilly on a spaghetti strap with the zippers open and the contents exposed. GRRRRR!!!! I just wanna slap these girls for being so stupid!!! I'm only on my phone for like two minutes if I need directions and I'm aware of my surroundings, mostly in broad daylight, in my locked car, parked, but in drive (just in case). Now this isn't gonna make me mugger-free, just less of an obvious target. I hate to sound like an asshat but the girl that got her purse swiped got what she deserved. She shouldn't have had all her crap in there. Or maybe she's just saying she had all that just to get sympathy, who knows? Hell, the big gal probably didn't need the little girl for the ill-gotten gains, she probably just had to reach her girth over the counter with a cane and presto! Free purse.
