Lee,
Thanks for making me remember why I'm not sad you left Ann Arbor. Stay classy.

The introduction was nice but it would have been hilarious if the Univ Pres had just walked on stage and biatchslapped Mr. Iwannanuclearjihad.

LowbrowDeluxe

All he had to do was hold up some pictures of Auschwitz and ask a few pointed, but properly phrased, questions. Instead Bollinger is the one that looks like dick to the world.

clanque: I'm all in favor of the marketplace of ideas, and I'm not saying there shouldn't be research from different perspectives. I'm just asking what -- within reason -- are those other perspectives?

I can think of two off the top of my head- that it wasn't as extensive as is being claimed, or alternatively that it was more extensive than is being claimed.

His premise has been that the Holocaust didn't happen. That's a perspective that's about as reasonable as believing the earth is flat.

He actually acknowledge it as a reality more than once in the speech.

2007-09-24 03:28:09 PM
So just as some of us were predicting, the effect of giving Mahmoud Ahmadinejad a public platform in front of a critical audience was that he made a moron of himself in front of the entire world, thereby injuring nobody but himself.

Free speech FTW!

evareste: Today I am ashamed to be an American!

This country is a pile of hypocritical asshats. The media is tainted and is forcing this war to protect Israel. Its not worth it and if you dare to even slightly question Israels right to exist or its foreign policy you will be viscously attacked or arrested (don't believe me go to Germany). You must submit to the will of the media and thats that.

My grandfather used to have a saying: "I don't like what some people say but I will defend their right to say it". Now it should be: "you can say what ever you want but question Israel and you will be assaulted".

Why do you hate Jews?

Since when are "dictators" elected ?

Nice fact checker.

Saddam was "elected" more than once. Managed to get 100% of the vote too. Funny that.

Look I think the guy (Ahmadenijad) is scum and a liar. But was he

aware that this was a debate ? or was he invited to make a speech ?

Sounds like and old time 60 minutes interview.

Judging by that article it seems like Ahmawhateverhisnameis was being fairly rational and polite, while we (Americans) were just insulting and rude. I'm know all his words don't exactly correspond to his actions, but if we are bringing a world leader to speak, we could at least act civilized...

hbalien: Why do people keep calling him a dictator? I heard it on CNN too. He is a democratically elected president, with almost no real power.
He's like the queen of England, mostly for show.

The president they had before him was very liberal but didn't change a damn thing because they have a parliamentary system that runs the country, and a crazy ass ayatollah with whom the real power resides.

From the English to American dictionary:
"Dictator" is American for leader we don't like.
"Freedom fighter" is American for terrorists we like.

2007-09-24 03:29:41 PM
You know what other dictator was elected? Hitler

buckers1:
got to do something to appease the masses...OMG.

just think if the mainstream media would have kept out of it, everyone at Columbia (who obviously wanted him there) could have just enjoyed their speaker.

FTA:
Matteen Mokalla, a Columbia student of Iranian descent, said, "This is a great opportunity for us to directly question him and ask him and challenge him."

But it doesn't seem that they were allowed to directly question him.

buckers1:
Not saying it is alright for him to be doing this with his actions of late, but damn i wish everyone would mind their own business. if you dont want to see him....DONT GO!

The shiat he says and does is very much our business.

Gwendolyn:
Did you learn NOTHING from Columbine?

Hahhahhahhaha.

bv2112:
It really lacked elegance. I thought that was what the Q&A aspect of the debate was for.

FTA:
But Liat Shetret, an Israeli-American student, noted that students will not "directly" question Ahmadinejad. Instead, she said, students are only allowed to write their questions on cards, which others then will select to be read to him.

bv2112:
Despite how truthful Bollinger's statements were, when they talk about this in Iran the context will be Americans' terrible reception of their leader. Diplomatically it was a boneheaded--albeit cathartic, I suppose--move.

Honestly, at this point, I don't think it matters. They already hate the US. If the CU president calls him petty and cruel, I can't imagine it will make things much worse. If he had shown a Mohammed cartoon...

Now, if he'll just invite/introduce Harry Reid and Chuck Schumer.

RageAgainstTheMachine: And, by the way, I think the most documented event in history is probably the 9/11 attack, not the Holocaust, and look how much discussion there still is about that!

That's not true, actually. It could be argued it's the most watched, or had the most immediate reaction. But the Holocaust is considered to be the most documented not just because of the pictures that were taken, but by the actual documents the Nazis kept: orders for food, for killing, how many people were noted to have diseases, and what kind, etc. Germans kept meticulous records and we have a very great deal of that.

2007-09-24 03:30:14 PM
DROxINxTHExWIND: If he's indeed as batshiat insane as some would have you to believe then it should be EASY to debunk his logic and send him home looking like a fool.

Convincing Ahmadinajed that there was a holocaust and that gays do exist in Iran is like trying to reason with a 9/11 truther.

Nutcases can't be reasoned with. Because they themselves have none.

In other words, your precious "free speech" and "freedom of thought" is bullshiat and you should be embarrassed.

You can move to Canada then, i hear the exchange rate is pretty good these days.

2007-09-24 03:31:51 PM
All the right wing idiots in this country have been acting like Columbia supports this douchebag's views and actions by letting him speak here.

Exactly, I was stuck in a car for 2 hours and listened to most of the O'Reilly Factor... it was all before the speech happened. It was absurd and bizzare. Bill wanted to know why muslims weren't out there protesting/apologizing. Then why liberal "hollywood jews" weren't out there. Then "flamboyent homosexuals" who should try to get "married in Iran to see what happens".

After this orgy of right-wing punditry I learned that MoveOn.org is just like the Nazis, no wait, IS A NAZI WEBSITE! That the president of Columbia, the students and teachers HATE AMERICA!

Oh... and The New Yorks Times is in chaos and about to shut down.

TheConvincingSavant: Gwendolyn: Why yes keep taunting the guy was was happy just making us think he's crazy. Poke him a bunch with a big stick and maybe he'll actually become the monster we want him to be. Then Americans can say "SEE! We told you he was nuts!"

Did you learn NOTHING from Columbine?

Anyone who denies the Holocaust already isn't all there.

OH yeah? Why is that? Educate me. Start by regurgitating all that you were taught by textbooks and our media. The same media that is run and owned by Jews.

Never mind pesky little facts like Red Cross records that only account for 600,000 deaths. Never mind that it is impossible to burn that amount of bodies in the time period they had.

Never mind the total lack of facts to back up Jews claims.

Don't get me wrong, I'm sure stuff happened, but 6 million? Please. Not a shot. And to be fair, it was war. We did the same thing with the Japs, and we are doing the same thing now to to people our military captures. Shoot, there are stories of our government doing to it citizens who have broken no laws.

You're crazy if you believe the media. Remember, the guy who wins the war gets to MAKE the history how he sees fit.

You can be certain 6 million Jews did not die.

Mr. Three: "I'm standing right behind you, dude. I can hear you."

I LOLed.

2007-09-24 03:32:31 PM
I think it was actually a clever combination of publicity stunt and cockpunch to a global-scale jackass. You just know he's got folks all over Tehran swearing double-jihad on Bollinger right now. If I were him, I'd buy an auto-starter for my car, is all I'm saying.

ravengrim: Personal attacks against someone you are debating with signals the other side, and everyone else, that you are out of valid points and are now beginning to drown but your foolishness wont allow you to admit you are wrong. This guy STARTED with personal attacks and went downhill from there. He may have had some valid points but that is not what people are talking about. Any points he had were lost in his approach. It doesnt help that most Americans reaction is the equivalent of putting a hand over their mouth and going 'DAAAAAAAMMMMNNNNN!!' Who looks like uneducated morons now?

Not sure about you but I am going to go with the guy who still denies the holocaust and thinks there are no homosexuals in his country

2007-09-24 03:34:25 PM
IF he talked his crap in his own country everyone would cower in fear and swallow his farking junk (even though there are no homosexuals in Iran) and if they talked trash they'd get hanged (which, btw, is why homosexuality doesn't exist in Iran, because homosexuality is a crime punished by death, specifically hanging). But here, in America, it's our right to talk trash about whoever we wish, whether they're in our farking faces or in another farking country. People who disagree and want to say Mr. Iran President deserved a better introduction need to get a farking clue. The same stuff you're whining about is the same reason this douche was allowed to farking speak here in the first farking place. It might not make us look "educated" but it certainly does make us look free, and freedom leads to envy, which leads to America-haters, because people love to hate what they can't have or be.

2007-09-24 03:34:25 PM
agentyx: Bill Frist- Hitler wasn't elected, he was appointed Chancellor by von Hindenburg, and Castro seized power in the revolution.

After Hitler was appointed chancellor and the president died, a law was passed declaring the presidency dormant and effectively transferring all head of state powers to the Chancellor. This move was ratified in a post hoc plebisite by an overwhelming majority.

stop it right this farking instant.

Is this moron suggesting that we should be giving him fuel in order to make nuclear weapons?

FAIL. Nuclear fuel is usable for power generation at ~5% purity. It is not weapons-grade until 90% U-235, and it is very difficult (and thus very easy to detect) to purify further- Impossible if properly tracked.

Diogenes
So he tries to make denial of the Holocaust seem like a legitimate position, and to reject its legitimacy is to be academically or intellectually dishonest or deficient. When in reality, the position is so flawed it deserves no serious treatment. Not everything warrants a fair treatment.

FAIL. Questioning any aspect of the Holocaust is verboten because of the mythos it has. This is unhealthy for scientific critical analysis. Faurisson. So today (although much moreso in the 1970s-80s) there are people who will cry "anti-semitism!!1" whenever someone opposes or questions Israel's foreign policy (which is unhealthy for... Palestinians).

Bill Frist
Stephen Colbert did it to Bush.

But he did it with wit.

2007-09-24 03:35:24 PM
When are we going to realize that debating by lashing out insults and condescension only causes further problems. If someone is incorrect about something even something as mind blowingly obvious as the holocaust you will not represent your points well by leading off with accusations and insults.

The so called more "intelligent" folk in the world need to start acting like it and live with a more enlightened perspective. Speak/act respectfully to everyone even those who don't deserve it.

2007-09-24 03:35:44 PM
God, what an embarrassment this is for our country. Every person in the world (outside of Israel, of course) is just shaking their heads in disgust as we once again demonstrate our immaturity.

Hero tag? Really? Stupid, Asinine, and Dumbass tags out drinking or something?

I'm assuming this is a troll, but Ahmalamaramadingdong is peddling Holocaust denial. "The Germans didn't kill any Jews. Six millions Jews jsut decided to go on vacation, in, er, Madagascar. Yeah, that's the ticket. They went on a vacation led by my wife, Morgan Fairchild, who I'm married to."

Our president can't give a speech unless its on a military base or an American legion hall for fear of getting booed out the building shot or blown up."

FTFY...
I am not a fan of the Iranian government, Ahmawhatzisname, or the Mad Mullahs, but I am kind of proud of the fact that he can come here and trot out his little spiel, and prove himself to be the nutjob he is, without having bloodshed. And kudos to the college president, for pointing out the pressing issues so Ahmayaddayadda could at least have some talking points to hit on besides the propaganda he had planned.

This anti-gay stuff usually comes from the biggest closet cases. My prediction is that Iran doesn't have a nuclear weapons program. It's just a cover for a super high security Iranian gay leather bar called "The Fuel Rod".

He said Bollinger's comments included "insults" and false claims, and flew in the face of an environment that's supposed to let people him speak their his minds.

Fixed that for him.

Well deserved Hero tag.

Also, gotta love the part where he not only denies the Holocaust, but also denies that Iran has homosexuals.
