From TFA: several fearful employees fled the terminal, authorities said.

Wow. That makes me comfortable to know that the very employees meant to protect my safety are the ones that are out the door first if anything bad happens.

Another, better, article also stated that she had no play-doh with her. The police called the paint on her shirt that spelled out letters, "putty".

In short, she did nothing more than be your typical engineering geek. They sell the light-up holiday sweaters in stores. She wanted to make her own.

Once again, big over-reaction on the part of Boston.

And, by over-reaction, I don't mean sending the police in. If someone believes that it may be a bomb, by all means send the police in.

But, the over-reaction comes in arresting her even after they determined that it wasn't a bomb and in yelling "POST 9-11!" and saying that she jeopardized everyone's safety in there.

That's over-reaction.

The correct course of action would be to let her go and issue a press statement saying, "There was no bomb. Her sweatshirt had an electronic device designed to make it light up. She's been released. We apologize for any incovenience."

Welcome to the 21st century U.S.A. police state.
Don't step over the imaginary line or you will be locked up or killed.
We can't actually tell you where the line is ... that's a state secret. Technically, asking about the line is crossing the line, watch it bub.

What I see as the biggest problem in these cases is the inability of "security" personnel to admit they made mistakes.

Hey you never know when you'll need a couple thousand rounds per minute of firepower to take one woman down. You have to prepare, maybe she had a Abrahms tank hiding out back? Then people will ask why didn't you bring your Anti-tank rockets to take her out?

Yeah, I saw a guardsman with one of those in the airport, and I gotta tell you he only made me MORE nervous. I was ready to hit the floor on a moment's notice.

I'd bet you dollars to donuts she did it on purpose and new she'd either:

a. get arrested or
b. ignored

Either way, she could be an attention whore afterwards.

The armed response to a possible bomb scare at the airport. Perfectly acceptable. But pressing charges and holding a press conference where they talk about how lucky she is to be alive. Totally overboard.

It was a simple home made LED sign. Her name (nickname) is Star, and she made a little LED sign that lights up in a Star shape. She didn't sneak it past security, she never went through security. She was waiting outside for her boyfriend.

She deserved to get pulled aside and a stern talking too. But this was not a bomb, not a bomb like device, not something designed to look like a bomb.

Oh, and she didn't have any play-doh or putty. She had puffy print on her shirt which is what the police are referring to. Just more proof that the police in Boston are a bunch of overacting attention whores.

2007-09-21 08:05:56 PM
As the single most common IED is a car bomb, I think we should arrest every car owner in Boston for having a hoax device.

Postal Penguin: Wow. That makes me comfortable to know that the very employees meant to protect my safety are the ones that are out the door first if anything bad happens.

People who are in charge of facilitating your transit from BOS to wherever you want to go are not there to dive on a bomb.

Do you expect the guy at TGIFriday's to help you when you stub your toe?

Not exactly a necessary follow-up. We already know that (a) she wasn't for real, and (b) she's a moron for trying to impress her friends with this.

I know that Logan security look like morons to the internet tough guys here, but really, who among us would have the balls/lack of brains to try something like this in what's probably one of the jumpiest airports in the country??

\complain all you want about it, unless you're changing the system, it's still stupid to mess with cops....

This sucks.

I have a courier-style shoulder bag that I've always thought would look totally biatchin' with a circuit board on the top flap. I even pulled the motherboard out of an old IBM 386 and was gonna just put it on the bag.

I didn't realize that my idea of "hey this might look neat" could actually end up with me landing in jail. Real honest to goodness farking jail. For putting part of a number cruncher on a bag.

When they KNEW it wasn't dangerous, why did they still have her arrested?

Are all circuit boards considered criminal now, or just those which are visible?

/terrorists don't wear weapons IN PLAIN SIGHT ON THE FRONT OF THEIR SHIRTS, you idiots.

All of which I'm sure would be ascertained in the seconds that the cops arrived.

Please.

I'd be the first one to jump on the TSA or cops for overreacting, but the cops should be commended for not pumping her with lead.

I would like to renew the call for a Boston tag, it seems that their police and elected officials are utterly insane.

Because it is against the law to have an item that looks like a bomb for obvious reasons.

I hope they lock her up for two years. Take away some of the best days of her life for pulling a stunt like this.

Terrorism is serious business, if sub-machine guns in a public facility aren't enough to convince this smarty of that, she needs to go to jail until she does.

Maybe you should quote my whole message. In the first farking line I said pulling their guns on her when the thought it was a possible bomb was totally acceptable.

The overreaction is how they've handled things after they ascertained she wasn't a threat and wasn't trying to do anything wrong.

It wasn't an item designed to look like a bomb. It was a common breadboard used to make quick and dirty electronics. These are common items amongst anyone tinkering with electronics, and using them to make little LED signs is VERY common. Its not the cheapest way to do it, but is very easy and allows you to change things later.

Actually, I am a liberal, and will never vote republican and I think this woman is an idiot. Maybe not lock her up for 2 years but she should be punished.

She looks to have done this on purpose. You can't have people making hoax bombs at airports.

What do you think they should do? let her go if she did this on purpose?

2007-09-21 08:15:24 PM
for future reference- Dont go to airports with electronic strapped to your chest with flashing lights if you don't want a hard time.

yes, she can get pulled out and arrested
