Link to the YouTube video (not a RickRoll).

I dunno, I also conjured images of Klingons but I'm a Star Trek fan. It's a given for any trekkie, men that beat their chests and proclaim honor are Klingons. Since Stephen Colbert is a well known übernerd so it's not a far stretch to think that he's also a trekkie so I wouldn't consider this a stolen joke, it's more of a cliche really.

Then again, from the video, Cenk might probably be poking fun at Stephen.

2007-09-20 09:13:57 AM
Right, the GOP candidates are like Klingons near Uranus.

2007-09-20 09:15:24 AM
Are their ratings dropping off? I can't speak to Air America, but Colbert is as popular as ever, I thought.

2007-09-20 09:18:02 AM
colbert's version was better anyways..he's upset he didn't do it that way, what a turd sandwhich

2007-09-20 09:22:25 AM
Now that I've seen the video -- Colbert, thanks to the advantage of video, did it just a little better.

And it may have been a short clip, but this guy really has the face and voice for radio. Actually just the face. His voice and speaking style are really terrible.

2007-09-20 09:24:34 AM
I think he's angry cause his "joke" fell flat and was terrible, while Colbert's was actually funny.

2007-09-20 09:24:49 AM
*yawn*
Goddamn nerds.

2007-09-20 09:25:15 AM
No problem, all Colbert needs to do is scroll the disclaimer that
"All comedic content may contain as much as 20% recycled material"

2007-09-20 09:31:35 AM
"They're starving for JOKES, Bob!"

2007-09-20 09:33:09 AM
"...his joke - which he claims he first told on his Sept. 7 radio program..."

Too bad one of the five people who listen to Air America hasn't come forward to confirm this.

2007-09-20 09:37:52 AM
Uh, read the "$65 million for pilfered joke" link on the left...this is obviously a joke in itself. Colbert is almost certainly in on it and it'll be on the show.

2007-09-20 09:40:07 AM
It's obviously a joke, and a way for Air America and the Young Turks to get a little bit of publicity off of Colbert.

/Colbert's joke was way better.

2007-09-20 09:42:20 AM
Jokes. That's defiantly worth $65 million.

Whenever I try to say the guy's name it just comes out as 'Cirith Ungol'. How weird is that?

Ninja_Pancakes: Then again, from the video, Cenk might probably be poking fun at Stephen.

Probably. But Colbert's was far better.

/never heard of this Uygur dude
//he ain't that funny...

Not to mention comedians steal each other's material all the time.

2007-09-20 09:54:28 AM
Air America's still on?

huh

2007-09-20 09:56:11 AM
Given what spoken Turkish sounds like (I mean, just check out the guy's name), I'd be very careful with the Klingon jokes.

Gratuitous anecdote: When my daughter was about a year old, I was watching Star Trek one night with her sitting on my lap. All of a sudden, she started speaking Klingon! I turned that off in a hurry.

If this guy is indicative of the quality of talk show hosts on Air America, it's no wonder that both of their listeners are deaf, dumb and blind...

/not funny

2007-09-20 10:02:27 AM
The only similarity is the Klingon reference, which even potted plants could make. Colbert's writers went the extra mile by inferring that Giuliani is a Klingon too, thereby turning up the WIN knob to 11.

This Cirith Ungol guy (thanks ObscureNameHere), in the meantime, receives a heapin' helpin' o' FAIL. At long last, unfunny moran, have you left no sense of decency?

2007-09-20 10:03:25 AM
Besides...if they both came up with the same joke, maybe the joke is just true?

2007-09-20 10:14:19 AM
Colbert is a tool anyway....

/move along, nothing to see here.

People come up with the same jokes all the time. Look how often it happens in long Fark threads.

Air America is just full of sour grapes because Stewart and Colbert do in 44 minutes what Air American can't manage in a whole day.

Please send payment in gold please. No USD.

For me, it was just a quick 'first thought in my head' thing wehn I saw the name. I have no idea why I find 'Cirith Ungol' easier than "Cenk Uygur". I guess it is uncertainty around the 'C'. Is it pronnounced "Kenk" or "Senk"? Is the last name "Yu-Ee-Grr" or "Whee-grr"?

This entire thread is well and truly full of fail. I expected better of Fark.

Anyone who has actually listened to The Young Turks before would realize that they and Colbert are not exactly strangers.

If Fark can be taken hook, line and sinker by this, I can't wait to see the Freep thread!

2007-09-20 10:42:04 AM
I think we're missing the point. Air America is still around! Who knew?

2007-09-20 10:49:45 AM
Cenk Uygur might end up right under Bears.

2007-09-20 10:51:39 AM
If someone tells a joke on a radio station and nobody is listenting, I believe it's no different than if the joke was never told at all.

2007-09-20 10:52:38 AM
It's pronounced Chenk, where the 'che' part is pronounced like Cheney. Last name is YOU-grr.

Second, the Young Turks show is awesome, or at least was until Ben Mankiewicz left to co-produce TMZ-TV. And anyone who listens will tell you that Cenk routinely makes star trek references, so this is no surprise.

That said, this is 100% goof. Cenk has a great sense of humor, and if he thought for one second that Colbert was boosting his jokes, he'd be using it to pick up chicks rather than going legal.

I kind of hope this works as a publicity stunt. TYT is a great show that doesn't get enough exposure.

/has a man-crush on Ben

If you are going to whore yourself out to like this to make a publicity stunt, make sure the joke you said they stole was funny when you told it.

2007-09-20 11:04:31 AM
One of those two doesn't appear to have a sense of humour.

2007-09-20 11:13:52 AM
It's been said before, but COME ON, PEOPLE. It's right in the article.

"As a mock conservative pundit, Colbert has often engaged in mock feuds."

2007-09-20 11:31:15 AM
A few jokes I told people later showed up on Colbert. Both were puns that have probably been thought up hundreds of times over the years, so I didn't think he somehow stole my jokes.

Any joke that deals with Klingons was thought up at least 25 years ago.

2007-09-20 11:34:59 AM
also, if the Air America guy truly thought Colbert was stealing his material, he would just mention it loudly like other comedians do, not sue. They should have made it $100 billion just for kicks.

2007-09-20 12:14:28 PM
It's obviously a gag and they're both in on it.

First Jill and now Ben? The show used to work because of the dynamic between the hot-head Cenk and the overly conservative (in temperament, not philosophy) Ben. Jill was there for sex appeal.

They need to get back to Sirius. It has been all down hill since going to Air America.

He's just pissy because I'm sure people actually laughed at Colbert's version of the joke (I know I did).

Any trekkie could have made the comparison. I hope this is just some half-hearted attempt at a fake feud on this guy's part (Although that doesn't make him FAIL any less)
