He denied that he or Jeffs had forced sex on his bride, although he did acknowledge exposing himself to her in a park and being surprised when she took offense.
No, no genetic drift going on here.

Well he didn't "wear the pants" in the marriage. I think the incident is consistent with that statement.

Hmmm...polygamist prophets boinking children? Hmm...I can SWEAR I heard of this somewhere before....something having to do with suicide bombing and wiping your ass with your left hand.....

Wait! Don't tell me, it'll come to me....

Sorry. Pet peeve.

Thank you Brigham Young and Joseph Smith. The American public appreciates your legacy of sex under the guise of religion with 14-year old girls.

Quit hating. You Jesus-freaks are just jealous that your prophet didn't get any when he was alive.

That man has a scary face. It looks like a wax dummy that's slightly melted.

He's doing it wrong.

And by "it" I mean "his cousin."

It's things like this that make me ashamed to be from Utah.

2007-09-19 08:05:14 PM
FTA:

Steed contradicted Jane Doe's testimony about their first sexual encounter, several weeks after the wedding, in which she said she resisted him.

That says about all I need to know. This case is closed.

Good news Repugnicans! Objectification of women is alive and well. Utah hasn't got the women's lib disease yet!

I think most politicians are afraid of plural marriage for the same reason they are afraid of multiple political parties. They are too stupid to work out acceptable rules and procedures.

Another example of how religion is destroying humanity.

This is way over my head. Or how the f**k did that sect ended up coming to my little hometown in Mexico.

I-- eh-- I'll let this speak for me

"...how she was forced into an arranged marriage with Steed, a 19-year-old cousin she did not like."

Man...just reading that made me feel icky.

I'm going to take this opportunity to say that if you're not watching Big Love on HBO, you're missing one of the best shows on tv.

It's fascinating from a social perspective how control over perception of reality can be used to create these insular little communities where stuff like this can happen and everyone involved, even the abused, thinks it's okay. It's like creating a little bubble of demented anti-reality by messing with kid's minds as they grow up. Reminds me in general of religious schools, it's like "why do these even exist, and why are they distinct from regular schools if not to mislead students about reality?"

Pretty sinister shiat.

I don't have a problem with people having multiple spouses, if everyone involved is happy with it, but I do have a problem with grown men marrying children. WTF is wrong with these people?

It really sounds like it's simply a case of "if I knew then what I know now." I think we can all relate to that a bit.

/and, they, er, she, may have gotten married just a little bit too young

2007-09-19 09:11:10 PM
To be honest though, who hasn't exposed themselves to a 14 year-old?

2007-09-19 09:12:36 PM
Are we going to have a trial every time a dude tries to screw a teenager?

Jeez, what's wrong with her?? What woman wouldn't want that?? Ingrate biatch!!

/sarcasm off

Whether it's polygamists, pedophiles, the rapist in the city park, or just your garden variety overbearing husband, I can't fathom why so many men want to have sex with someone who is scared to death. Where does the turn-on through fear come from? Is holding power over someone really that exciting? Never wanted to try it myself. I seem to have some sort of mechanism in place that makes me feel icky long before I put someone into that kind of distress. I think I'll call it a "conscience" and see if I can market it.

Small groups? Have you not considered the public education system might just be creating a little unreality of its own?

Granted, with a much larger group you have a weaker reality distortion field, but most people aren't free thinking and\or well traveled enough to notice it. Think about who runs the public schools and what their goals might be, and I think you'll understand why kids these days can't spell or make change without a register or a calculator.

/Pretty sinister shiat indeed.

Now, correct me if i'm wrong, but it would appear that she got pregnant by another man at age 17... So are they pursuing charges against the other person? This guy is wrong on many different levels, but she doesn't seem to be to shy of "getting it on".

Oh and this

President Gordon B. Hinckley stated the following about polygamy in the Church's October 1998 general conference: "I wish to state categorically that this Church has nothing whatever to do with those practicing polygamy."

I usally don't follow these "trial of the century" type stories (still burnt out from O.J.I back in 96) but i've been keeping an eye on this one. I've had a feeling this would serve as a good example of religion left unchecked. But my god (pun intened) is the defense realy going with the "she's a slut" stratagy?

D&C132 anyone? :P

BTW I feel that there is nothing wrong with consenting adults entering into polygamous relationships. What is up with the underage shiat? Just following the prophet.

Mainstream Mormons will deny, deny, deny but their church is founded on these fundamentalists' beliefs.

Kozaru: Mainstream Mormons will deny, deny, deny but their church is founded on these fundamentalists' beliefs.

Mainstream Mormons believe in continuing revelation - including divine instruction to discontinue the practice of polygamy.
