Holy crap. That is beyond sad, but probably representative of the efficacy of some of our educational system.

whelmed:

How is our educational system supposed to change these ideas when we're happy to let children be brainwashed with religious ideas from birth? These fools have a 6 year head start.

"Jesus loves me this I know, For the Bible tells me so" repeated ad nauseam is a form of brainwashing, whether anyone cares to admit it or not.

I'm gonna go with religion on this one.
The ONLY reason people doubt evolution is because it conflicts with their insane religious beliefs. It has nothing to do with lack of evidence

It's one thing to be ignorant. These things happen. Hell, I'm ignorant of many things. But it's entirely another thing to be willfully, even pridefully ignorant.

Oh, and Whoopie, God didn't say take knowledge and run with it. Au contraire, God said take knowledge and be damned and exiled. He didn't want feisty wannabes. He wanted obedient cattle.

Eve chose well.

Wow. For a minute there I thought she was making the point that it really doesn't matter in most people's lives whether the world is flat or round. Then I thought "Nah, she's just a retard"

What a gaggle of dumbasses. Forget the chick who didn't know whether or not the earth was flat. Whoopi Goldberg can't articulate a thought. That vapid genetic mass of hair and fingernails, Elizabeth Hasselbeck, looked truly dumbfounded as she attempted to formulate some response that would align with her insanity. Joy Behar can be nothing but indignant and Barbara Walters has vagina drier than the Gobi.

Stupid, stupid tards.

Howie Spankowitz: Forget the chick who didn't know whether or not the earth was flat. Whoopi Goldberg can't articulate a thought.

Well, to be fair, she was probably trying to form her argument in a way that wouldn't confuse her obviously non-too-bright co-host and generally non-too-bright audience, while at the same time not making her absolute disgust and disdain for this woman's endless stupidity too obvious.

Have you ever tried having a discussion with a person like that? When you pose a rhetorical question like "do you think the earth is flat?" and you get back "I don't know" it can kind of throw you off, I've been in plenty of situations where I've just been at a loss for words and have had to try my best to stammer out some kind of non-offensive uncomplicated response.

Not defending Whoopi, just saying I've been there and it can be pretty difficult to form a competent argument when you're trying to explain yourself to someone with the mental capacity of a 1st grader.

The earth isn't flat?

2007-09-19 01:01:11 PM
Jesus never taught the disciples geography.

That is the problem.

2007-09-19 01:02:11 PM
My favorite is the immediate shift to "children."

Q: Why do you think the earth is flat?
A: Starving children need food.

Makes sense to me.

2007-09-19 01:10:28 PM
Well, for an individual's immediate intents and purposes, the curvature is absolutely insignificant. Since we are always walking/driving along a vector that is an ever-changing tangent to the earth's surface, the force we need to exert (and the decisions we make) are virtually identical to if the world WERE truly flat.

I'm gonna have to agree with PolloDiablo here. Such a display of stupidity would probably leave me stammering for a few minutes afterward, especially if I knew I had to be nice, and couldn't just call them a retard on live TV.

It isn't in anybody in North America's immediate intents and purposes to know what an elephant looks like, either.

But if an adult who, we assume, isn't functionally retarded, pointed at a rat and said "look! An elephant!", you'd still think they were a moron. And you'd be absolutely correct.

Same difference here.

I'd also suspect that a fair amount of Americans bristle at the thought that their original ancestors were African.

Thank you God for creating stupid people for our amusement.

This is how every evolution vs. creation debate goes. Each side gets so dug in that they'll never admit anything.

If the show is watched and hosted by morons, why does Whoopi work there, just to be smugly superior? Or is she a non-entity hasbeen, who needs a few more bucks.

Not sure I agree with Whoopi's leap in logic - ie, if the earth is round, you must believe all that Scientists have to say about evolution - that's a non sequitur, plain and simple.

If it were true, then we would be forced to believe that global warming is caused by the build up of green house gases, and not the fact that God farts on the earth continually, thus causing the global temperature to rise...and that whole smog thing over LA

This woman can't use the "I never thought about it" excuse. Ferchrissakes, I went to inner city public schools, and even I learned basic science and geography. That woman can't be any older than me, so odds are she got at least the same (low) quality education. People that farking stupid should not, should not, be allowed to speak on television, let alone reproduce.
