Cato: Stroop: Except those are not out of context. There was a law given to the Jews. When Christianity began it was seen as a continuation of Judaism, so the Laws continued to be a part of it. Until non-Jews began to be converted, that is. Then it had to be determined which parts of the Law applied to everyone. The decision was easy as the concept of the "Noahide covenant" (the parts of God's rules that apply to everyone no matter what race) was centuries old. This always included the sexual mores of the Law. They did not include the restrictions on diet or clothing.

So, a Christian who believes homosexuality is a sin, but not that eating shrimp is a sin is being totally consistent with the ENTIRE thing as a whole. Trying to imply that they are not is dishonest (or ignorant), and can only be justified by doing exactly what you are accusing the other side of doing. Which makes you one big, fat hypocrite.

The sexual immorality portion of the Noahide laws applies to Sodomy, which actually has a far more broad definition than commonly used from what I understand. Including oral sex regardless of the gender of those involved.

Imagine if that got out... "Get a hummer and go to hell"... I can only imagine the steep decline in church attendence after people caught wind of it.

Once again, what you're refering to has a considerable number of regulations, and yet Christians only want to enforce one... yet you're calling me a hypocrite?

"I never met a person who aspired to be homosexually challenged," [Fryrear] noted at one point. "Sexual trauma is a huge piece of the puzzle. Having talked with hundreds of homosexuals, I have never met one that had not been sexually violated in his or her life."

LouDobbsAwaaaay: Cato: subby: Do you think this study is "pseudoscientific" because you know any details of the study and how it was conducted, or are you calling it that because its results disagree with your preconceived prejudices? Because if the latter, that is very unscientific of you.

TFA: Study findings were first released last week in a book, "Ex-Gays? A Longitudinal Study of Religiously Mediated Change in Sexual Orientation."

The study wasn't even scientific enough to be published in a journal. That tells you everything you need to know right there.

bjc: Melissa Fryrear:

At this weekend's so-called "Love Won Out" conference in St. Louis, professional "ex-gay" Melissa Fryrear reportedly asked the audience, "Ever wonder why some lesbians look mannish?" She then answered her own question by saying "It's a vulnerability to be a woman. That suit of armor to keep you from being hurt."[source]

"I never met a person who aspired to be homosexually challenged," [Fryrear] noted at one point. "Sexual trauma is a huge piece of the puzzle. Having talked with hundreds of homosexuals, I have never met one that had not been sexually violated in his or her life." [source]

I caught a bit of Rush's show a couple of weeks ago... from the time I got to the talk radio station until the next red light he talked about how the Nicaragua, the Soviet Union, and how the Democrats were responsible for Iran/Contra.

Somebody has informed him about the whole century change, haven't they?

His Sonshine: Believe it or not these types of programs work. There's a lady at my church who confesses to lesbian acts when she was younger on the collge volleyball team. She was also on the golfing team so she says being around women like that all the time made her do it and that collge female athletics is overrun with lesbianism. She's started a counseling service for people to convert back to a heterosexual life at the church.

P.S. liberals, she already has four people in the class and it only been going for a month. Being gay is a choice. We don't condemn though, I think that's where many churches make a mistake.

So your success story is that you "cured" a textbook Lesbian Until Graduation.

And all that have not fins and scales in the seas, and in the rivers, of all that move in the waters, and of any living thing which is in the waters, they shall be an abomination unto you (Leviticus 11:10)"

Couldn't have said it better myself.

Stroop: rondoble: While I do agree that there ARE some people who are predisposed to homesexuality, I think it's pretty obvious that most 'gay' people are MADE by society's acceptance of such behavior these days. Very few 'gays' are actually happy in their lives and I think Dobson and his ilk are honestly trying to help them.

As Billy Graham always said, "Love the sinner but hate the sin." Make no mistake, for anyone who is a practicing Christian, you know that the book of Leviticus clearly calls homesexuality a sin.

Other fabulous Leviticus rules to make sure you abide by:

Don't let cattle graze with other kinds of Cattle (Leviticus 19:19)

Don't have a variety of crops on the same field. (Leviticus 19:19)

Don't wear clothes made of more than one fabric (Leviticus 19:19)

Don't cut your hair nor shave. (Leviticus 19:27)

Any person who curseth his mother or father, must be killed. (Leviticus 20:9)

If a man cheats on his wife, or vise versa, both the man and the woman must die. (Leviticus 20:10).

If a man sleeps with his father's wife... both him and his father's wife is to be put to death. (Leviticus 20:11)

If a man sleeps with his wife and her mother they are all to be burnt to death. (Leviticus 20:14)

If a man or woman has sex with an animal, both human and animal must be killed. (Leviticus 20:15-16).

If a man has sex with a woman on her period, they are both to be "cut off from their people" (Leviticus 20:18)

Psychics, wizards, and so on are to be stoned to death. (Leviticus 20:27)

If a priest's daughter is a whore, she is to be burnt at the stake. (Leviticus 21:9)

People who have flat noses, or is blind or lame, cannot go to an altar of God (Leviticus 21:17-18)

Anyone who curses or blasphemes God, should be stoned to death by the community. (Leviticus 24:14-16)

I was always under the impression that gays singles choose to be that way because they either:

A. Have low self esteem
B. Have a greater-than-average sex drive
C. Too timid to fit into the proper sexual orientation
D. Too ugly to get someone of the opposite sex

You've just described the heterosexual population, you realize...

Plus I've heard that gays have some form of brain damage, so maybe it's not all a choice...

I've heard people like you are too scared to befriend someone and find out for yourself.

or, to use your own words:

Plus I've heard that gays Non-Denominational, Right Wing Christians have some form of brain damage, so maybe it's not all a choice...

Fixed that for us.

Or even better:
Plus I've heard that gays people who claim to know the sole means of Salvation have some form of brain damage, so maybe it's not all a choice...

Cato: You guys DO understand why pulling random passages out of the Bible doesn't make an argument, right? Because the whole "And it also says not to eat shellfish, blah, blah, blah" is pretty much the worst excuse for an argument you can possibly make. Especially considering that to make your argument you have to only read part of the Bible and ignore other parts while simultaneously accusing Christians of doing the same thing.

Right. Which is what we're pointing out. Picking out sections of the Bible and ignoring others is not a good way to be a Christian.

My point is: Jesus spoke very little (if anything) about homosexuality but went ON AND ON about hypocrisy. Yet, Christians aren't forming groups called "Focus on Sincerity" who try their best to influence laws against hypocrisy and hypocrites. Why is that? Did Jesus not speak out against amassing wealth on a number of occasions? And yet, here we are, with plenty of so-called Christians pretty well off in this country. Why aren't there prominent Christian groups called "Focus on Poverty" trying to make sure that wealthy people spread their money to poor people?

It seems to me that being against homosexuality because the Bible speaks out against it seems to be a weak argument.

Funny you should mention that. I know a set of twins where one is straight and the other is gay. They look very similar (don't think they're identical, though), but are complete opposites personality wise - the straight one is very math/science-oriented, the gay one is very artsy. Both extremely bright, friendly, and pleasant.

Sure, you can "cure" homosexuality. It's called deep-seated sexual repression. That's the same thing quite a few serial killers have done, and they've all gone on to lead happy, successful lives, right? It's obviously better than the alternative of being gay. We can't have that in our perfect, Utopian society, can we?

Not to thread jack, but I am convinced Paul was a closet case. He preached that it would be best if everyone could be celibate like him, and he spent WAY to much time with that Timothy kid. He was very verbal about how wrong homosexuality was, though Jesus never mentioned it. Me thinks he doth protest too much.
