Wait what? When did this happen?

2007-09-17 02:59:24 PM
*meow* Is Marcel Berlins talking about FCC censorship, or the inability of Britain's judiciary to advocate for itself?

If the first part of that article was intended to be a segue to the second part, it failed miserably.

I too failed to see any connection, although I agree with him for the most part, it looks like two separate articles were spliced together.

I'll never understand how seeing something that every single person on earth has can be considered 'indecent'.

2007-09-17 04:08:19 PM
My kid saw it. He thought it was awesome! Especially after we Tivo'd it again and again and again.

Then we talked about how to land the "hot chicks".

It was a good day.

I fail to see why corrupt politicians and sexually repressed idiots who consider television to be time well spent should control what can and can't be done in the US media.

A cool parent can turn a boob flash by an aging female rocker into a learning experience.

it was a pretty ridiculous-looking breast...

jesus they're still talking about JJ and the nip slip brigade? Let it go, media!

So what, they're fake anyways. Give me untampered boobs. Please.

2007-09-17 05:59:07 PM
I always thought that whole Janet boob thing was just pure rotsy.

2007-09-17 06:00:07 PM
Yeah, not so much...

2007-09-17 06:01:25 PM
It wasn't the breast, it was the skanky rape dance and kinky humiliation crappy rape lyrics capped by bodice ripping that ticked folks off, and made the act indecent. CONTEXT, stupid.

2007-09-17 06:02:05 PM
I think Janet Jackson is getting way too much heat for this. Even if it were planned she didn't expose the titty, someone else pulled the hooter cup off of her outfit. If someone must be punished over something so silly then I say it should be Justin Timberlake. Also he should be punished for just being Justin Timberlake.

In summary, that's one count of exposing a titty to a billion people on TV and one count of being Justin Timberlake.

Kids sucking on nipples in public = OK
seeing nipples in public = OK (in some places)

An under 1 second shot of a nipple that has so much jewelry on it you can't see the nipple= 200K fine.

Please people it's a farking tit, go to foobies you see plenty of them.

I like European TV moreso and it seems to me their kids are much more well adjusted to nudity than the teenagers of this country.

The UK is full of it on this one.

I was in Edinburgh over that titty superbowl and I wanted to find out the score the next day. Every article had a giant picture of her tit and no score.

So any claims that they didn't find it to be a big deal or not scandlous or uninteresting are BS.

kilgorn: Slow news day?

Seriously. Three Brit threads and now this....

Also, if everyone hadn't made such a big deal out of that 1/2 second flash of boob, I bet the kiddos that we're so hellbent on protecting probably wouldn't have even noticed. Seriously, my daughter was sitting right next to me when it happened and I didn't flinch or say anything... just looked across the room at her grandmother and we shared a "Did you see that?" look. The kid was never the wiser.

/seriously, you guys
//seriously

No. We just prefer tits to watching a bunch of men strap on forty pounds of padding to play rugby.

SarahBW wait, you're saying that people should critically analyze the underlying message of performance and other art forms instead of just freaking out about a pierced nipple? Come on! That could take several sentences to sum up, not just the elegant:

OMFG teh nipple thinkofthechildren!!

You give the powers that be and the American public too much credit.

Anyhow I see both the boobslip picture and the "just wrong" picture pulled any second now. FYI

I don't know why people don't get this. The Super-Bowl is a globally televised event. It's not a matter of offending Americans. It's a matter of presenting something that's world friendly.

If you asked Janet, "Would you go do a concert in Saudi Arabia and expose your breast?" I'm certain she would answer in her breathy, overly-concerned way, "Oh, no! I would respect the culture of the place where I'm performing, so I would never do such a thing!"

Well, guess what, you stupid tart: You just did!

And the thing is, as America becomes more multi-cultural, it's going to become more puritanistic, not less. More Muslims, more south of the border Catholics, more Asians. But entertainment-world "rebels" still have their heads stuck in the past. They think they're out there just pissing-off "redneck christians," when it's the aforementioned list that's getting riled too.

Maybe you want to tell me "Well, if those people come to America, they should realize that they have to leave their old ways behind!"

Hey, I'm with ya, Ed Anger! ...But guess what: it ain't happening.

the super bowl may be a globally televised event, but in europe its put on between reruns of curling.

pvd021: I like European TV moreso and it seems to me their kids are much more well adjusted to nudity than the teenagers of this country.

Based on the scientific research you've conducted?

Name me one US teenager that had a problem with this.

Name me one US adult (besides the pansy ass FCC chairman) that had a problem with this outside the small handful of worry-warts that always letter bomb the FCC and TV stations over the hint of a boob. These people are loons and everyone else knows it.

People seem to get a big chubby over the fact that you may see a boob during a car commercial in Europe. Whoo...sex sells, way to be so much more enlightened Europe.

In the US, you simply flip to HBO/Showtime/Skinemax/PlayboyChannel/Spice...or any number of porn PayPerView channels and you can see anything you want. How is Europe more enlightened?

Dear UK:

Many, if not most of us over here in the States also find the whole boob flash fiasco just as ridiculous as you chaps do.

Yrs. & etc,

PS: Enough with the "armoured wankerball" thing. It's not as witty as y'all think it is.

But we see similar routines all the time without people blowing a gasket. Without the exposed nipple there'd have been a few people tut-tutting, but no significant reaction. Hardly anyone even MENTIONED the routine's context in their complaints about it.

It was only an issue in the United States of America, not in any other country. And the people complaining (in general) were white Southern Bapists and the like, not Muslims.
