Pocket Ninja: Hm. That could put a damper on the homo-erotic activities enjoyed by the ranks of closeted homosexuals populating fraternities. But they're creative, those guys. I'm sure they'll think of something.

Can you say 'Strap On'? I knew you could.

superoogie asks: So, after you get paddled, do you get your little handbook of how to talk down to non-fratboys?

Is that what happened to you? Did some fraternity guys talk down to you and hurt your feelings? Is that why you're so quick to bash them now?

Theaetetus: onecanshort: This ruling pisses me off because it's one of the loopholes colleges have been trying to use lately to push Greeks off their campuses when they can't find any other way to do it.

Yeah! That lousy equal protection stuff is really just a loophole!

Yeah! it's not like there is some sort of 'sisterhood' in place for females wishing to be part of a special club... just if they had some sort of sorority in existance then there would be no problem of their being a boys club cause there would also be girls club... if only....

/fark you I'm from Canada. I was a scout, girls were allowed to be scouts but I couldn't be a girl guide... EXPLAIN THAT TO ME ASSHOLE!!??

...

Grow up, losers.

As an aside, why are asocial geeks (like so many in this thread) always obsessed with homosexuality?
...

Bonus points for using "fraternity."

onecanshort: We're not all date raping, ambercrombie and fitch wearing, spiked hair douchebags.

That's right. Just the other day I saw a frat brother wearing an Aeropostale tee.

No, but I find it amusing how you throw yourself on the cross about getting "generalized," and then attack everyone with the same stereotypes.

At my school, for instance, frats got kicked off because of their rather impressive record for sexual assaults.

And please, before you even start, I was asked to pledge three frats, but turned them down.

Why bonus points? Do you consider the word "fraternity" to be especially difficult? If that's the case, you should probably consider working on your vocabulary.

spacechicken170am: There's a whole world out there beyond WOW and D&D. So put on some sunblock wipe the cheetos off your face and try some social interaction.

Theatetus First example - 'unveiled' is not a protected class. If the muslim organization wanted to exclude all women (hey, like this frat), then yes, the college would be forced to step in.
Second example - yes, the minority student group is likewise required to accept whites who want to join.

You may "think not", but you're wrong. The rules do apply uniformly.

Care to cite an example of a college enforcing that without having been dragged through court and multiple appeals, much less removed one of those organizations from campus or cut their funding?

Because all the frat guys in this thread are the ones using gay slurs...

2007-09-14 12:52:44 PM
FuelCycle: Lots of fraternity bashing, probably from the total nerds who are simply jealous that they couldn't get in.

"Jealous they couldn't get in"? Do the frats also teach you to be full of yourself? What you fail to realize, is that the rest of the non-greek campus was laughing at you and mocking you the whole time you were there. Now you just get to see it on places like FARK.

Every time you create and "us", you automatically create a "them". Thus the greek bashing. Also, you probably hated your conference sports rival schools and they hated you. Not because they knew anything about you or your school, but because you belonged to something different than them. Sound familiar?

2007-09-14 12:53:05 PM
What surprises me further is that the court did this. Many lawyers and legislators are fraternity members - they're not as big as they used to be, but most people value the Greek system they came from.

Moreso than not they are still pretty good systems. My own fraternity did a lot for local charity in between the binge drinking. These are organizations where some are as old as the college system itself. What's wrong with the status quo? And there are plenty of opportunities to start your own fraternity or sorority as well. It's not hard, I started a professional fraternity at my alma mater.

The pendulum has swung so far no that being male, white, straight, or affluent (God forbid all of the above) is almost an automatic mark against you.

Women, blacks, minorities, etc, they don't want justice.

They don't want equality.

They just want revenge for whatever perceived slights or insults that the straight white man, by his mere existence on this Earth, has wrought upon them.

Curves Gym, my ass.

eraser8: Why bonus points? Do you consider the word "fraternity" to be especially difficult? If that's the case, you should probably consider working on your vocabulary.

It's probably not that, it's just most people use the word "frat" like a slur, and some actually take it that way because of the attitude they get from many people who use it.

2007-09-14 12:57:09 PM
Theatetus You should read the article. This college was also dragged through court and multiple appeals.

You're understanding the comment backwards - I mean without having been dragged to court to get them to *enforce* the rules, not to appeal having them enforced.

spacechicken170am: There's a whole world out there beyond WOW and D&D. So put on some sunblock wipe the cheetos off your face and try some social interaction.

Actually, never played either of those games. (They would count as "social interaction," though. Unless "social interaction" is a gay-sex innuendo.) However, I don't need to hang around 20 guys who all act the same and paid for the "priveledge" of hanging out with each other to feel socially secure. I do quite well social with *ready for it* MY OWN PERSONALITY.

Theaetetus: kc987654: My bf, for example, would just keep going when he was farking his sorority girl gf and never finish. Made him popular, but not really fulfilling for him.

Now, wait a second - couldn't she just have been really bad? I mean, he could always close his eyes and imagine his roommate instead. You don't need to be attracted to your partner, as proven by the fact that I have no romantic interest in my hand.

He actually had a few, the size of his peener became a topic of discussion at the sorority houses.

Odd, most of us don't care whether you're in a fraternity or not. But you GDIs seem to spend a lot of time telling us that you didn't want to join in the first place. Here's a hint: We like being in a fraternity. If you don't like the idea, that's fine. Just STFU about it. We don't care.

Yeah it is always fun to point out to idiots in these threads that my fraternity did more community service than the rest of the student organizations combined. If I recall it was along the lines of 5 hours per member per week (for the entire year, not just the school year) Also lots of partying. Basically it maximized the good things you should do in college and the fun things in college. The former is why the school overlooked the latter.

At my school, for instance, frats got kicked off because of their rather impressive record for sexual assaults.

That the frats at my school raped a lot of women, and that may be why I consider them so poorly as opposed to your hypothesis of "being talked down to by one of them."

And please, before you even start, I was asked to pledge three frats

Yeah. Sure you were.

Just pre-empting Standard Fratboy Argument #2: You're just jealous because you couldn't join. Whether you believe or not is hardly a concern for me. Just trying to speed this along. Please jump to Fratboy Argument #3: Community Service.

spacechicken170am: At least they've had a girl in their house, mom doesn't count.

SUre, they have had a lot of girls at their house. And most of them have left bleeding from a couple of different openings, with no memory of what happened. What studs!

Now, if they just get a court to make the let blacks in, they will be able to lynch someone without leaving campus. It will be like an All In One Oppression-Mart!

Kyndig: You're understanding the comment backwards - I mean without having been dragged to court to get them to *enforce* the rules, not to appeal having them enforced.

No, I understood it. My point was that without knowing the history of this case, you can't argue that they weren't "dragged through court" earlier. Things like this case usually start when someone alleges discrimination, the college supports the organization, and then the someone takes them to court, resulting in the college being forced to change its policies.

I`m late to the thread. My brother is a frat boy. I`ve heard so many stories what they have done and I can honestly say nothing now shocks me. I have heard it all, well I like to think I`ve heard it all.
In a way I dont feel bad for the girls who has "trains" performed on them, they put themselves in that situation. Every female knows going to a frat house 2 in the morning is not a good idea.

/not all frat boys are douches
//just the majority are douches

Why all the anti Frat hostility on FARK? Dudes, it is simple. Remember those pimple faced geeks in the computer lab, you know the fat ones with the greasy hair and the clothes Momma bought at Kmart? Well they are now FARKERS. They remember how we got all the hot girls, had the nice cars and never even noticed their existence. This is their revenge!
