if supposedly the surge is making everything better (it's not, just go with me here)... why are we pulling out so it can get worse again?

Glenn Beck has said one RIGHT thing ever, and that one right thing is "Either we pull out EVERYONE or we give it everything we've got".

He's 100% right (OMG!).

I prefer the former. He prefers the latter, obviously. But Half-assed is not an option. It's STUPID.

LocalCynic: Dear smitty:

I think what you forgot to mention is that Bush proposed that America maintain a permanent occupation of Iraq. Perpetually. Forever.

But obviously that's all okay because one brigade is coming home due to the end of their troop rotation.

Yes cause we didnt have bases in germany, japan, poland, samoa, korea.........

This is the worst use of the Hero tag in a long time. So long, in fact, that there is still some debate over what the ancient heiroglyphics read that accompanied that last one.

Unless, of course, the hero tag is for the troops that get to come home. In which case, carry on.

Sorry but could I have the music louder?

Yeah drop the bomb! Just drop the bomb!

Getting sick and tired of the fossil-like system,
now or never it's the time to resist 'em,
it's easy to blast them all away,
pull a trigger push a button say ADIOS today,
don't get me wrong I'm a pacifist,
the mind can do more than the fist.

Explosives are not what it takes
(you know, terrorists always make these mistakes,)
what we gotta do is build momentum,
if you need the right tools invent 'em,
ride the wave of time come feel the rhythm,
the march to the future has begun get with'em,
the brain is the generator of almighty power
either do it now or your master plan goes sour.

Yeah! are you ready to take that fall?
It's up to you to make that call to drop the bomb!
Yeah drop the bomb! Just drop the bomb! Let me see that bomb!

didn't Hillary say she was gonna do the same thing if elected? Oh, I forgot, it's ok if the dems do it.

Durr, no that's the Republicans. The Democrats want to leave Iraq. We never wanted to go into Iraq in the first place.

/The More You Know
//Obviously you know very little.

WASHINGTON, March 14 - Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton foresees a "remaining military as well as political mission" in Iraq, and says that if elected president, she would keep a reduced military force there to fight Al Qaeda, deter Iranian aggression, protect the Kurds and possibly support the Iraqi military.

I know how to read a farking article. Here's the link:

Oh, no.

It means that Bush is a hero for sending more troops home than how many were killed in the whole war, they will not be rotated back into a tour of duty shortly after coming home, and they will not be dead.

Really.

Well, at least I see what the only two "arguments" are that the pro-war side has left:

1. Gosh, we've still got troops in Japan, Germany, etc! That's JUST LIKE what we're doing in Iraq. (Oy.)

2. Gosh, what do we CARE?

That's it. You guys have keyboard fought and spit and yelled admirably for over four years supporting this FUBAR shiate (and it was ALWAYS FUBAR shiate). When you're down to those two "arguments" you just need to feel the sweet liberation of putting down the shovel and refusing to continue digging that damn hole, you know?

This week: security is good enough, 3 out of 18 benchmarks = mission accomplished, bring em home.

Hero. Okay. Wha? This simple man, for reasons still not exactly fleshed out, listened to Chalabi and his cabal in the state department and failed to ask ANYONE with a current, unbiased understanding of the social fabric of Iraq what they thought would happen if we took out that sadistic twat. They actually dismissed warnings and instead of finishing off that misguided wannabe-martyr in Afghanistan, they hamstrung our forces there so W could show his dad he could make a difference. Despite the fact that Senior is on the record predicting an eerily similar outcome if they had gone to Baghdad in '91. The heroes are the folks with their boots on the ground in Iraq, Afghanistan, etc. trying their best to adapt on the run and sort out the mess that this jackass and his groupies created.

Yeah, Petraeus DOES suck, doesn't he?

Fun fact: Petraeus isn't supposed to report directly to the White House, but since his superior has differing views on the war and the ADministration's strategery, the White House has willfully usurped the chain of command so as to have Petraeus be as close to a marionette with a bad haircut as possible. Fun!

Thank you for pointing that out about Petraeous reporting directly instead of to the chain of command. Also, wasn't there an Iraq war czar appointed? I wonder whatever happened to him.

I hope that what follows is this:

Bush - The progress the Iraqi government is making, and continues to make, is a sure sign that we can now begin to pull troop numbers back. We have won, the attacks are stopping, time to let Iraq rebuild.

Insurgents - The progress that our attacks are making, and continue to make, is a sure sign that we can now begin to slow our attacks. We have won, the Americans are on the way out, time to start rebuilding.

I really, really hope...

Hero? WTF? Seeing how I just got into this thread, I'm sure this has been said already, but...

If I recall, when Bush and Petraeus started promoting the surge idea back in January, they said they'd begin rollback of the surge by late summer. Well, it's September already but they announce "a withdrawal soon" when what they're really saying is "extending the surge for another year."

And the surge was supposed to be 21,000 troops but the military ended up sending 30,000. So even after Christmas it's still gonna be a troop level higher than what Bush sold us. Deceiving bastards.

Same load of crap from Bush tonight.

This administration is utterly corrupt, not to mention completely unapologetic. Same old strategy. Wait X months. Wait X more months. Surge is working. We are turning the corner.

Current Iraqi regime can't meet the majority of the guidelines set for them. They have no motivation to get anything done. Our soldiers are doing all the dying.

Get our troops home by March 2008.

We have other more pressing needs to spend money on. Our crumbling infrastructure. Health care.

Freudazoid: or those of you not skilled in the art of war:It's called "draw out the enemy with fire"It works. It's working. It worked./Hate on, flappy vaginas.

As a floppy vagina, and one not "skilled in the art of war", I would just like to point out that this is not a round of Halo. This is real life. Drawing out the bad guys and then killing them then results in 3 more people deciding to become terrorists. You can't fight an insurgency with the same rules as WWII. That's the only way you can explain the best trained, best equipped fighting force in the world taking huge casualties from a bunch of amatuer, but dedicated rebels.

But then again, I'm not skilled in the art of war like Van Damme or Segal are.

2007-09-14 01:36:52 AM
The only reason they are bringing these guys home is that we are running out of troops.

Anastasia_Beaverhausen: TheAbstractor:

How are the paychecks of the military funded? Taxes, right? That's right.

See my comment above about my taxes. I'm not getting that money back and I doubt they'll go down if a Democrat is elected who ends the war.

This means that EVERY American citizen has a right to CARE what is done with OUR military. Notice that "our" part? That's right, it's OUR military. We don't own the PEOPLE in it, but in a very strong sense, it belongs to all of us, since the actions are carried out in our names and on our behalf.

Sure you have a right to care. But why would you?

I derieve no particular self-esteem or shame from being an inhabitant of a 300 million populated nation-state known as the USA. I'm an individual. The people serving in Iraq are individuals. They're choosing to do something risky and life-threatening, just like skydivers and Marlboro smokers. I have no moral right to stop them since they are not threatening me or my interests. And if anything, they are helping it by killing bad guys who might one day try to kill me.

Have you all who are "anti-war" really thought through what final goal you would like to achieve in the world, and why you want to achieve it?

If you're trying to save people who are bigger, stronger and better-armed than you from voluntarily getting into harm's way, then you'll probably fail and have no moral right to succeed, no more than a tea-totaller from saving a man from a stiff drink at a bar.

If you're trying to save the innocent Iraqis from getting killed, then rest assured that "our" troops aren't killing anyone who's innocent.

If you're trying to save money for an organization that's taking money from you every April 15, in hopes that it will take less money from you, they're may be better ways to go about doing that.

Unless your a terrorist or a Baathist, there is little if anything the US military is doing in Iraq that is contrary to your rational self-interests.

Bush is a hero. He's done more for the security of the US that anyone since Ronnie. Think what you want to, but history will judge Bush to be a better President than the majority of Presidents since Ike left office.

And the fact that more of you leftwingers arn't screaming bloody murder that Democrat Congressfolk and Senators called a honored four star general (that was unanimous appointed by these same people in January) a liar even before his testimony is heard shows that what's good for the United States and the American people is bad for the Democratic party. At least the crazy liberal fringe that has taken complete control of the Democratic party.
