If they check their history, they will find out that almost every console ever made has a light gun controller.

I had the SNES one. You know, the bazooka one.

/never rocketed anyone's arse though

Does anyone have a loofa? I can't quite get all the dumb off of me.

The pussification of America trifecta is in play. See the thread about squirt guns as reading rewards below.

I'm not the least bit opposed to kids playing with these things. Even if there were some problem with kids having toy guns (it's not even as big of a deal as a toy gun). The biggest misconception is that games are just for kids. When we were all playing on our atari or NES or Sega or whatever way back in the day, it was mostly just kids playing, because the games were perhaps a little to juvenile for the mass adult audience. Everyone was just expected to grow out of video games as they got older. Well the Nintendo Generation grew up with the games. Many of us still play when the time is available. Personally I don't play so much, but would usually prefer to over watching a movie. Anyway the point is, not everything that is video game related is made for kids.

/Toy guns forever

but what if some kid winds up actually shooting someone with a REAL GUN because of it???

2007-09-13 01:56:53 PM
Well, it's a lot cleaner to kill one's own family with a gun than with the inhumane samurai sword I envision when I use the regular Wii controller.

Shut up! What? No.

2007-09-13 02:08:53 PM
I bought one Wii gun thing made by a 3rd party, I ended up finding that I didn't like the feel of it and it wasn't as accurate in the gun casing. Not sure why exactly. It just didn't work out so well. I'd be willing to try the official one though to see if it's any good.

If it saves just one life...

skrrp: If they check their history, they will find out that almost every console ever made has a light gun controller.

Something tells me these people have complained about every video game system.

If kids aren't sitting at home staring at a blank wall they are destined to destroy humanity.

2007-09-13 02:49:53 PM
That looks like so much fun! It's almost enough to make me start saving for a Wii.

Don't like it for your kids? Don't buy it. Last I checked, Nintendo Wii and its accessories were not handed to every family, nor was there a government mandate that kids play every game made for something that adults also enjoy.

I just used a real gun. Yeah, I fu_ked up my tv set, and the wall behind it, but I just felt so COOL.

Were these people complaining about the NES light gun 20 years ago? That farking duck hunt dog made me want to kill more than anything on the market today...

So... where are these parents when the National Guard goes around with that America's Army setup complete with M16 and Sidearm light guns? What looks more real, hmm?

senator_mendoza: but what if some kid winds up actually shooting someone with a REAL GUN because of it???

Then hopefully they'll actually kill someone for a change rather than just being a pussy and only wounding a few people and missing most completely.

They need to a some kickback motion to it too.

Kids playing with gun toys? When did this happen?

2007-09-13 06:05:52 PM
Because there's never been any toy guns before?!?!?!

WTF!

I was terrible at playing Duckhunt.

Busy body soccer mom coont rags. That thing looks cool as hell. Does no one remember the Duck Hunt gun from the old Nintendo? It looked a helluva lot more real than this one.

This reminds me of when the Star Wars toys started coming out again from the re-releases and the prequels. Han Solo's gun was bright orange. WTF? Don't fag out Han Solo because you're worried about giving kids toy laser guns that look too realistic.

At least they didn't use the phrases "post-9/11" or "post-Columbine" in TFA.

Soooo....let me get this straight. It's perfectly okay for kids to play games where they run around killing things. But the second their controller looks like it could possibly be a gun, it's an outrage? Can't we just pack all these people off to Canada and let them play in their winter wonderland?

2007-09-13 06:15:50 PM
Awww is the casual gaming demographic up in arms now? This is Nintendo getting what they deserve for aggressively pursuing soccer moms, Alzheimer's patients, and 13 year old girls as their primary gaming consumers. I hope this stuff keeps biting them in the tush.

2007-09-13 06:15:53 PM
Let's get something straight here, people; Guns don't kill people, Nintendo kills people.

TFA: "Great, this is what we need. Children with guns learning how to aim and shoot."

Uh huhhhh. From my (admittedly limited) experience with real firearms, hitting a target with any accuracy is a little more complicated than "point and pull trigger", which I assume is as complex as the games are likely to get. Say you've got two groups of people, group A having played games with a lightgun peripheral and group B not having played them. I'd be willing to bet that group A wouldn't be any more accurate than group B at using a real gun.

2007-09-13 06:19:20 PM
This is the stupidest thing ever to get upset about. It looks nothing like a real gun. This just gose to show you how retarded some people are. What farking asshats! This wouldnt have even been an issue when I was growing up. We were given more dangerous toys back then like Lawn darts.mowabb.com

2007-09-13 06:21:57 PM
so none of these idiots have ever been in the toy aisle of any store in the past 50 years?

2007-09-13 06:24:12 PM
How quickly people forget. It was about the time these "concerned parents" were kids that Nintendo opted to make the NES zapper that hideous orange color because the plastic grey version was "too realistic".

/loved the zapper
//not so much the Super Scope
///too busy playing to go out an shoot someone for reals

2007-09-13 06:27:36 PM
This is Nintendo we're talking about. It's not likely that they're going to come out with "Extreme Bloodbath Shoot-em-up" -- the gun will probably be used to shoot cartoon fantasy things, not realistic people. The gun even looks like a fantasy weapon. If there is any correlation between video games and real-life violence, it would make more sense for realistic, gory video games to be the cause. I just have trouble imagining children shooting people with real guns as a result of playing with this thing, especially given the types of games they'll play with it.

/grew up playing Doom
//hasn't killed anyone
///yet

I love dogs, but I hate the duck hunt dog.

2007-09-13 06:29:59 PM
I was so happy when I first discovered that you could actually shoot the dog when he randomly popped up in Duck Hunt. Little creep had it coming every time. I quit aiming for the ducks after awhile.

2007-09-13 06:32:00 PM
Whew! At least it doesn't look like a water pistol.

2007-09-13 06:32:55 PM
Nintendo light guns are for training the average homicidal maniac. When I was a kid, I had a bb gun. Yes, an actual weapon that fired actual projectiles. That kill trainer, and the endless hours I spent honing my murdering skills by slaughtering legions of aluminum cans, has turned my into the soulless, sociopathic killing machine that I am today.

Serinity: This is Nintendo we're talking about. It's not likely that they're going to come out with "Extreme Bloodbath Shoot-em-up"

No, but third parties will. Medal of Honor: Heroes 2 and Manhunt 2 are both going to be on the Wii. Games like Resident Evil 4 and The Godfather: Blackhand Edition are already on the Wii.

Now that the Wii has surpassed the Xbox 360 and become the market leader for this generation of consoles, we will see more of all types of games, including games with realistic violence.

Nintendo is no longer a niche player like it was with the Gamecube. It is now the market leader. Third party developers will follow the marketshare, and right now, that's the Wii.

2007-09-13 06:37:50 PM
What games will the Wii Zapper use besides Link's Crossbow Training and Resident Evil: UC? One has a weapon in the title and the other will have zombies all over it. Do a 4 second scan of the games before you buy them for your kids.

/loved the zapper
//have yet to even shoot a duck
///or bounce a soda can

Guns don't kill people, kids that were overprotected and developed a false sense of reality from their shiat-for-brains parents kill people.

/grew up w/ guns, rallied 'round the squirrels with a pocket full of shells, and now.... [sarcasm]I reeeeaaaaallllllly have to restrain myself from killing every person I see.[/sarcasm]

2007-09-13 06:53:23 PM
The aiming on the Wii is so bad anyway, this is probably a tool to fool people into thinking it's teaching kids how to aim, when in reality it's making their aim worse so if they try anything, no one will get hurt.

2007-09-13 06:53:25 PM
So now not only should the schools do all the child-rearing for parents ... but now the video games should also do so? If you plan on farming out the rearing of your offspring, expect the parental substitutes to do it their way, not your way.

Stop buying your worthless crotch-harvest junk and spend some time with them. Maybe kids with parents who actually love and spend "quality time" with them are the ones who grow up to not be the next Dahmer.

Anyone offended by the Wii Zapper can just kill themselves for all I care. More parking for all and less self-righteous BS.

2007-09-13 06:56:26 PM
I bet, if kids learn how to shoot well with these things, they'll better learn how to protect themselves from terrorists and the impending alien/robot/zombie threat. It will save millions of lives.
If you don't produce it, the turrerists have won.

2007-09-13 06:58:37 PM
Confabulat

No not at all I am a rabid 360 fanboy, I just don't think third party developers are going to go all out with the Wii until they see an attachment rate similar to the xbox. Right now grannies, soccer moms, and tweens are content with Wii sports and don't mind playing anything else. Besides it would be a severe travesty to the medium if you started seeing Wii titles being ported over to the PS3 or Xbox 360, it would set the industry back 5-10 years.
