They included Dragnet and left off Emergency and Adam-12?

I would like to see a Jack Webb cable TV channel. Dragnet all week, then his others shows on weekends.

Kudos for getting The Singing Detective, big thrumbs down for missing Pennies from Heaven.

No Firefly, no Heroes, no Dr. Who, yes, complete and utter fail.

2007-09-08 04:44:09 PM
Couldn't give a rat's ass about Firefly, but no Futurama? Seriously. And also apparently the Andy Griffith show wasn't prestigious enough to make this list, yet The Real World was.

2007-09-08 05:11:47 PM
Let's see what we got:

The Simpsons
i222.photobucket.com

A Charlie Brown Christmas

Damn straight.

Mystery Science Theater 3000

See above

MTV 1981-1992

Thank God that they were specific with the years.

The Real World
American Idol

Since when did crap = best? Sorry, these two entries fail.

/And where is Futurama?

I am shocked and appalled that they left off The Ropers.

Likely not very many. These lists almost always suck. It is possible to make a good one, but not very many people manage to do it.

Let's see, shows I like...
*Wide World of Sports
*The Daily Show
*I Love Lucy
*MST3K
*The Price Is Right
*Rocky and Bullwinkle
*SNL (depending on the season)
*The Simpsons (ditto)
*SportsCenter
*Super Bowl
*Survivor

oh yeah and while i'm cool with him laying down ground rules, he needs to stick with them.

reading the rules he set, one of them is that in the case of shows made by the same creator, he only chose one. so buffy but no firefly, simpsons but no futurama.

but then he had both beavis and butthead and king of the hill. both should be on there, but stick to the rules you set up.

wow i'm bored today.

Firefly.

and maybe not the "best" or "top" but I enjoy ATHF, as do many others. If Beavis and Butthead can get on there, then ATHF deserves a place.

otherwise, that is a pretty solid list.

Also absent.

2007-09-08 08:15:10 PM
Glad to see Buffy and Spongebob on there. Although I was disappointed at the lack of Angel, at its peak it was superior to Buffy. And while Firefly deserves to be on there I wasn't surprised to not see it on the list. Bet the compilers of the list haven't even heard of it.

And if they're included whacked out cartoons that appeal to grown-ups while pretending to be for kids, I'd include Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends. That show is beyond brilliant.

2007-09-08 08:15:11 PM
And wtf is "Roseanne" doing on that list?

8 of my faves are on there. (M*A*S*H is actually there knucklepopper) but I am disappointed that Firefly, Iron Chef and The Amazing Race aren't there.

There are some fantastic Australian shows which wouldn't be there ever, simply because they're not on in the US - The Chaser's War on Everything and Wilfred spring to mind...

The list contains about 20 or so of my favourites, which is pretty good. Of course, there's no Canadian shows and scarcely any British shows, it's short on cartoons and long on shows I really liked at the time but might not buy on DVD today. But one in five is a really good average considering the crap that could be on the list.

I'm not going to quibble about Futurama--nobody ever got to see it on 666--not even the fans. 666 Network is pure evil.

Dwight256: Farkers: Is Battlestar Galactica worth investing time in?

Meh. I heard a lot of fuss, watched it, and yeah, the action scenes are awesome (as and when there are any) and the narrative is ok. The rest is as dull and talky as ST-TNG, only without the whatever-it-was that made TNG watchable.

SF needs good scripting, Doctor Who started it, Joss Wheedon carried it on and Doctor Who picked it back up again in 2005. DW proves that you don't need awesome FX to make a really good scifi show. BSG does the same job, but from the opposite direction.

I liked Futurama too but it had a pretty short run, wasn't all that influential or popular and besides, Groening already has The Simpsons and King of the Hill up there. I'm sure if the list was The Top 100 Shows as Picked by Farkers it would be up there, but every now and then it's good to be reminded that the world of Fark is unique and not all that representative of the general population.

FTFA re: WKRP In Cincinnati:

But it was an underratedly smart show, infused with a sense of things ending-especially, the free-form, anarchic, album-rock '70s

Too bad we'll apparently never see the album-rock show in its complete form the way it originally aired, thanks to the usual "rights issues". How is it Miami Vice, a show I also like and features contemporary music throughout its run, is able to get ALL the rights to the music as aired through five seasons, while Fox won't bother to do the same for WKRP through three?? Bastards!!

Is it worth watching?

As a sci-fi TV and film watcher since the days of the original Star Trek, I would put the first two seasons of BSG as some of the best drama, and certainly some of the best sci-fi ever to be on the small screen.

The third season goes off the rails but still has some of the magic. I'm hoping for a strong final season.

Most of the boxed sets begin with the mini-series that preceded the show. It's really a must to see that before you watch the rest of the series.

Enjoy. It's a hell of a ride.

So you're saying that mocking the ruling party more often then the party that has been out of power for the past 7 years is unfair? I guarantee when the Democrats take over the White House in Jan. 09 and the Daily Show starts taking shots at them more often, you'll be in here praising the Daily Show almost as much as you praise Jesus and Rush Limbaugh.

To the majority of people out there the conservatives are just the biggest and most obvious target. They happen to be the one's with the most power and the most gross examples of abuse of said power.

There isn't enough "ha ha" potential within the Democratic party right now. Most of your Democratic fark ups are doing the same banal corrupt things that the average politician of any party is doing. It's a sad state of affairs that regular corruption isn't even newsworthy, but that's just how it is. They go for the bog story and right now the big stories are pretty much coming from one specific power base.

Wait until the Dems win the presidential election, as soon as they have the power then they will be pulling the big scams. Corruption and sardonic humor are all about power. Those who have it will abuse it, then we can have sad laughs about it.

I like that they put Wiseguy on there; I still remember that show as being very good; before Ken Wahl started to drink himself into irrelevance. Excellent casting and farking awesome storylines.

Towards the end they did some fantastic work with a psycho-megalomaniac named Profitt. He was a philosophy-quoting oligarch and Kevin Spacey just made him look real. That role had to put Spacey on the map.

Having a young Joan Severance as Vinny's love interest did not hurt. She was teh absowootely smoking hawtness.

Quite a few that aren't on the list that should have been (Quantum Leap was a huge omission, as is Get Smart, Green Acres, Newhart, The Outer Limits, The Young Ones, The Muppet Show) but here's the stuff on the list that actually deserves to be there.

* American Idol (I just don't get it. Sorry, but if ou like this program then you're probably stupid or mean.)

* Gilmore Girls (You. Gotta'. Be. Kidding. Me.)

* Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman (This program may have been unique, but it was also painful to watch and, unlike The Office which is also painful to watch, it was boring too.)

* The Monkees (Just stupid. How is this on there but Sigmund and the Seamonster not?)

* MTV 1981-1992 (It's not a farking TV show.)

* The Real World (Two good seasons can never make up for all that followed.)

* Survivor (Same as above.)

You're living in a dreamworld.

Stealing money = They are all doing it. So it's not newsworthy unless they get caught doing it in some unique manner. It's like cheating on your wife, it's only funny if it's with a dude or if you're one of those pro-family loudmouths.

Now trying to suck dicks in mens rooms when you're a right wing conservative guy = funny!

That's why you don;t see many stories about liberal politicians doing this sort of thing. Nobody would be surprised so it's not funny. You see the "shock/surprise" element is a big part of humor.

If you don't get that then I'll bet you're one of those dipshiats who uses a lot of puns and thinks they are the "funny guy at work".

when Democrats fark up in a funny way then TDS busts balls on them for years. If you watched the program you can still hear an occasional Marion Barry crack/prostitution joke, or a Clinton blowjob joke. The thing is most of the big name Dems don't espouse any major moral bullshiat and then get busted violating it. You got guys preaching "family values" to get contributions and votes, then trying to suck off other dudes or getting married six times. How is stealing money going to keep up with that?

TDS is a joke show, not a news show. Stealing money, as I said, just isn't all that funny most of the time. Go watch an actual news program for that kind of shiat, and if they fail to deliver on it then you have a legit complaint. USA Today or whoever should report on that kind of stuff based only on things like the amount of money stolen or whatever, but it's not the job of a joke show to report the news. It's not even their job to report facts, but TDS actually does contain more fact than many actual news programs, it just has a bias. But this bias is more about humor than party lines.

And don't try and say the libs are more in control than the cons. that's farking stupid and you're stupid if you believe it. If that were true then there would be an impeachment lineup taking place right now and we would be pulling out of Iraq.

2007-09-08 09:42:34 PM
frostus: big fat list missing Married With Children

Sorry, Married with Children deserves it. Part of a combo that established a network and ushered in a new era of comedy.

And you people and your Firefly obsession need to smell the roses. The show was good, but seriously, it wasn't that awesome. It had plenty of potential, but the execution was particularly Buffy, who probably shouldn't be on the list, but is because(I would assume) the WB would have went under way earlier if it didn't have Buffy.

Also, for the people that are complaining about Frasier, Newhart, etc(all great shows), read the guidelines.

-Two Shows, One Slot. Where two shows with the same creators or talent had similar themes, milieus, characters or narrative styles, I generally picked one. So: Monty Python but no Fawlty Towers; Cheers but no Frasier; Seinfeld but no Curb Your Enthusiasm; The Bob Newhart Show but no Newhart; My So-Called Life but no thirtysomething. I did include both versions of The Office because they were different achievements (the American is the better series, Ricky Gervais' the better performance), but also because-all together now!-it's my list.

Lastly, Futurama probably deserves to be on there.. hard to pick what to kick off though. My choice would probably be The West Wing.

Also, glad to see props for King of the Hill. A truely awesome show for all ages that doesn't get the recognition it deserves. It's a cartoon that plays like it's a live action show, which is why it's overlooked, and it's as well written and put together as 99% of the shows I've watched.

Come on TIME, where else can you see real people getting busted nooking other people's girlfriends. Real people, real cheating, real busting.

(Dude getting busted with some dude's gf in pool, gets a beatdown on camera)

Not to mention the episode where that prick of a host got stabbed.

He deserved a beating as much as any of the cheaters getting caught.

oh and once I saw a blimp: FISH.

This is Fark, right? Why am I the first to mention this shining star?

sorry, I love the Abemeister more than Drew loves beer but Fish was one of the worst spin-offs ever.

He was hardly on the show, his wife's voice set my teeth on edge and those retarded adopted kids made me hate people from the East coast irrationally for years.

2007-09-08 09:49:11 PM
I really like "Rescue Me", but I think that show is too recent to make the list.

2007-09-08 09:49:56 PM
Definately the '71 Pinto (new window). What? Goddammit. Late again, wrong TIME top "Here's a bunch of stuff from that period I'm plowing out my ass at random, I sure hope 50 of you remember-and agree with me" Lists. SWEET.

2007-09-08 09:50:10 PM
How the hell can you compare "I, Claudius" to "General Hospital"? And does anyone REALLY prefer "The Bob Newhart Show" to "Newhart"? Maybe Suzanne Pleshette ... MAYBE.

2007-09-08 09:50:31 PM
Well, the guy said he was excluding spinoffs and shows that debuted in 2006 or later so I can excuse not having Dexter and Heroes.

But where the hell are Rescue Me, Scrubs, It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, Firefly, Prison Break, Entourage, Weeds, Two and a Half Men, and How I Met Your Mother?

And although I've never watched it, I have to ask why there's no Dr. Who on the list. Plus, he includes Charlie Brown Christmas (which is a movie) but no How the Grinch Stole Christmas?

Game shows, the Superbowl, but no Hockey Night in Canada? Guy lives in some southern state, doesn't he?

What no Connections?
Forget about that one! Thanx

I would like to see some old 60's reruns, Red Skelton show, Groucho, Candid Camera, Art Linkletter...
Anyone remember some of the hokey ones: The Invades, Time Tunnel, The Prisoner. The FBI

Time used to be a reputable magazine 20+ yr. ago. Sux now, big.

The list was not Time's and should have been listed that way. As the author stated: "It's My List...". Time did not take a(the) pole it is obvious the author is very biased the same as the Mag.

There are several in the list that are garbage as others above have written. I would not and do not let the kids watch Bevis and Butthead, 3 Stooges (Kid poked bro in eyes), many of the supposed "mainstream" shows due to the content of ignorance, sick minded humor, and glorification's that is degrading to, and of most people.

/Top "Firefly" pic need Shopping done for a Bush, Cheney, Condi view

// Glad to Not see a certain daytime soap on the list. Wife didn't speak to me for a couple of days due to me walking in the door from work, made/ used the same sentence as the "Jerk" on the show. She lost cable for a while!!!

2007-09-08 10:02:25 PM
I appreciate the Monkees and My So-Called Life being on the list, as well as South Park and I Love Lucy.

Anyway, all in all a good list. You can't please everyone. I was happy to see The Wire and The Shield, and elated to see Arrested Development. I just hope in 3 years or so Its Always Sunny in Philadelphia will have hit its stride and will make lists like this.

24
All in the Family (before my time, but caught the reruns on Nick at Nite growing up)
Beavis & Butthead (hey, I was 13-14 when this was on)
A Charlie Brown Christmas (a classic for any child)
The Daily Show (not a devoted follower, but hilarious when I do watch)
Hill Street Blues (another 80s classic)
The Honeymooners (the original fat-guy-with-hot-wife sitcom, all others pale in comparison)
The Larry Sanders Show (One of the best shows ever. "Who the fark is Igus?")
Married With Children (Great but fell off at the end)
Pee Wee's Playhouse (great when I was a kid, trippy as hell as an adult)
The Real World (only the Las Vegas season, I never liked anything else. Can't count how many times I beat it to Trishelle and the multi-racial chicks)
The Shield (Vic Mackey owns all other TV cops)
South Park (no show has a bigger set of balls)

2007-09-08 10:07:44 PM
bhcompy: Sorry, Married with Children deserves it. Part of a combo that established a network and ushered in a new era of comedy.

A new era of shiat comedy. It wasn't funny and it's descendants aren't either.

And you people and your Firefly obsession need to smell the roses. The show was good, but seriously, it wasn't that awesome.

Wrong. And my love of the show isn't an obsession any more than you people that feel the need to constantly (and obsessively) slam it in these threads.

Also, glad to see props for King of the Hill. A truely awesome show for all ages that doesn't get the recognition it deserves.

Wrong again. Not funny or interesting. Maybe it's a show for all ages but mine? Or maybe I had to dull my brain with Married With Children like you apparently did to be able to sit in front of King Of the Hill for more than two minutes.

2007-09-08 10:08:20 PM
I know it's a Canadian show but when I see shows like Prime Suspect on the list, Da Vinci's Inquest is definitely a contender; drum-tight writing and none of this paint-by-numbers realism

2007-09-08 10:09:02 PM
Good to see The Prisoner, I, Claudius and the Ernie Kovacs Show, but no:

Futurama
Frasier
Cosmos
Blue Planet
Babylon 5
Connections 1
Connections 2
Jeopardy
Shogun
Bonanza
Red Dwarf
Peter Gunn
Mission Impossible
Secret Agent Man
The Wonder Years

and probably others if I took more time. Some of the missing may have run afoul of the author's rules.

One I never expect to see, but is my top 25 is a BBC show that was shown on local PBS stations - Sandbaggers.

No Scooby Doo? It's the only cartoon series ahead of the Simpsons with the most total air time, and it's been running almost non-stop ever since it first aired in 1969. This list is rubbish for the most part.

2007-09-08 10:19:14 PM
As long as X Files is there, I don't care if anything else made it.

No other show I've ever watched crossed the line from "OMG I love this show" into complete and utter obsession the way that one did.

And did they really put "Buffalo Bill" on the list??? What kind of snobbery is that? Toss in an obscure formulaic 2-season show that no one remembers? It's like a critic saying: "Moby Dick" was sort of okay, but "Omoo" was Melville's greatest novel.

All in the Family
The Beavis and Butt-Head Show
Buffy the Vampire Slayer
Cheers
The Cosby Show
The Daily Show
Hill Street Blues
King of the Hill
Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman
Monty Python's Flying Circus
Mystery Science Theater 3000 (YES!!!)
The Odd Couple
The Office [American]
Saturday Night Live (Well the original cast and the years with Carvey, Miller, Hartman, Farley, Rock, etc.)
The Simpsons
Soap
South Park
Star Trek
The Twilight Zone
The X-Files

(haven't seen the new Battlestar yet, so I'll reserve judgment, and only a few episodes of Lost, but it looks like it could be worthy)

Show I would have included:

Frazier
House
the Law & Order series
Star Trek TNG & DS9
Judging Amy (Tyne Daley so kicked ass in that show)
Barney Miller

my WTF list

The Monkees???????????????
SpongeBob SquarePants??????????

I can't believe that Ken Burns didn't make the list with at one of his documentaries. As well, I think the Jeffersons should be there, as George Jefferson was one of the great TV characters, but maybe it's not because it's a spinoff of "All in the Family".

Yeesh, I usually love _love_ comic book or highly stylized programming, but Heroes was a huge disappointment for me. It sat on the screen and flopped around like a fish. No sublime ethos or other brain candy, poor editing/pacing, just all around disappointment. I watched it to the end so I could yap with friends about it, but it was almost as bad as Lost to me.

The truth is Americans are missing half of the available television shows that are created in english. Very few of the really good british serials get broadcast on BBC America, or other accessible channels. I have a few terabytes of tv shows and half of them are from the uk.

I think Spooks, Hustle and maybe Life on Mars was played here but I don't think Wire in the Blood, Murphy's Law, Messiah, Funland, Hotel Babylon, Peepshow, Spaced etc.. have even had a showing on this side. Network programming is mostly an embarrassing joke after you watch well written series.

i DRTFL but was Northern Exposure on there? that was pretty much the best (and most cosmically subversive) show ever. Moonlighting wasn't too shabby either.

House is a good show, but mainly because Laurie is such a damn good actor. Plot-wise, it boils down to this:
Patient: "OMG! My left testicle is exploding! And how'd I get in this dark tunnel? Maybe I'll just head for that bright light, seem to be lots of people singing over there...",passes out, lead in to House opening credits.
House decides on course of treatment aided by his peeps.
Course of treatment doesn't work.
House goes to radical new treatment suggested by random member of his team, his buddy Wilson, or the night janitor.
New treatment makes patient's heart stopped. We know somehow they'll manage to bring him back because it's only 32 minutes into the show.
Everyone decides patient is losing case. Patient's wife makes sleeping arrangements with 19-year old pool boy semi-permanent until she can land another rich guy, family makes catering arrangements for the funeral reception ("Not so damn much onion in the gehackte leber, you want more people should drop dead at the reception?")
House gets late night epiphany while being flogged by a Philipino prostitute and popping pills to the sounds of "Baba O'Riley" by The Who. He races back to the hospital on his bike, limps in to the patient's room, throws back the sheet and gives the patient a slap in the face followed by a purple nurple, and the patient immediately jumps out of bed, grabs his wife who has been stroking herself while reading his will, and demands House leave the room. House limps out, smirking. End credits.
Pretty much every House episode to date...

frostus: married with children sucks, firefly is gods gift to mankind, and king of the hill sucks

so basically you're an old curmudgeon that is trying to relive his star wars pseudo western years through an overrated tv show that had reminds me a lot of hercules/xena in production value and campiness

2007-09-09 12:10:22 AM
24 - first season was original and good - the rest of it sucked.
60 Minutes - Isn't Andy Rooney dead yet?
Alfred Hitchcock - ROCKS!
All In The Family - ROCKS!
An American Family - Never heard of it
Arrested Development - BEST SHOW EVER - only Sitcom I have on DVD
Battlestar Galactica - They're kidding, right?
Beavis & Butthead - highly overrated
Bob Newhart Show - ROCKS!
Buffy - Yeah, I'd hit that.
Cosby Show - yeah - when I was 12 (why not include The Brady Bunch while you're at it?)
Daily Show - highly overrated
Friends - WORST SHOW EVER
Honeymooners - ROCKS!
King of the HILL - ROCKS!
David Letterman - highly overrated - not as bad as Craig Kilborn though
Married With Children - cutting edge for its time, but Unhappily Ever After ripped it off and showed them how it SHOULD have been done (besides, Nikki Cox makes Christina Applegate look homely).
M*A*S*H - ROCKS!
Monty Python - Slightly overrated
MST3K - SUCKED
Odd Couple - yeah, that was good
The Office - okay - either Brit or American versions
Price is Right - Yeah - if I were still 7 years old and had the flu
The Prisoner - BEST drama EVER (okay - except for The Shield, Rescue Me and The Avengers - and Alfred Hitchcock - anything else? nahh)
Sanford And Son - ROCKS!
SCTV - Funnier than SNL - which isn't saying much, but it was really good.
Seinfeld - highly overrated. Good the first time around - reruns SUCK!
The Shield - BEST COP SHOW EVER (even better than Hawaii 5-O)
The Simpsons - Almost as good as Futurama!
Soap - Rocks
South Park - 8 out of 10 episodes ROCK! - the rest suck
Star Trek - Original series rocked - the rest suck ass
Stupor Bowl - WORST SHOW EVER - ads are hit and miss.
Survivor - they're kidding again, aren't they?
Taxi - Best sitcom ever (except for maybe Newhart or WKRP or MASH - neglecting Arrested Development, which is in a class by itself)
Twilight Zone - Oh yeah - it rocks.
West Wing - excellent series premiere - very good first 2-3 seasons - then BORING
WKRP - See comment about Taxi

American Dad
Family Guy
Bugs Bunny/Road Runner Hour
I Spy
DC Follies

Beverly Hillbillies
Speed Racer

The fact that there are no likeable characters on Futurama, or at least that they're hard to like, is one of the reasons it's good. Lame-ass sitcoms with likeable characters and happy-feel-good saccharin plots are old and obnoxious.

The characters in Futurama are all more interesting because they all have strange quirks and personality flaws (just like normal people). They're just a bunch of slackers, losers, assholes, spoiled brats, etc. Plus it makes it easier to toss out the drama and make with the funny. Personally I prefer the slackers, losers, and jerks to the perfect whitewashed characters of your typical sitcom.

Incidentally, that's one of the reasons (in my opinion) Seinfeld was such a great show. None of those characters was particularly likeable either, but I guess that's just me.

Add me to the list of people who are astonished House, M.D. isn't on the list.

cynicalbastard: House is a good show, but mainly because Laurie is such a damn good actor. Plot-wise, it boils down to [predictable repetition having to do with medicine.]

No one watches House for the medical aspect. That part is somewhat repetitive and predictable (though they've shaken up the routine a few times) and is largely irrelevant to what the series really is. Fans of House watch it for the sarcasm, cynicism, office politics, and humor.

That show was funny as shait, but worthless. I don't think I've ever seen a show where I hated the protagonists more. They were stupid, incredibly unlikebale people, in stupid situations. It was a utterly empty; a tale of no higher value whatsoever. But damn it was funny.

Sorry to say this but--

as much as I loved SEINFELD most fans of this show were basically ignorant dumbasses and didn't even get most of the jokes.

Some examples:

In the "Jon Voight's Car" episode at the end when Kramer and Jerry are on the bus to Florida, this is a parody of the final scene in "Midnight Cowboy"

In the episode where Elaine has to go to Burma to get Peterman's signature it becomes a scene from "Apocalypse Now" and when he hears about the "urban Sombrero" he repeats-- "...the horror, the horror" like Kurtz/Brando from the film.

I clearly remember going to work on mornings following Thursday night SEINFELDs at having those water cooler discussions with so-called "SEINFELD fans" and having to explain certain details to these clueless morons.

What, no Three's a Crowd, After M*A*S*H*, Welcome Back Kotter, Quantum Leap, Manimal, MacGyver,Curb Your Enthusiasm, Mr. Show, Colbert Report, Robot Chicken?

...battleship of fail, I'd say.

2007-09-09 04:41:05 AM
Too much old crap on that list. I Love Lucy? George Burns and Gracie? These shows could only be considered "good" by people who didn't have anything "good" to watch.

As much as everyone likes to complain, TV has gotten better over the years, not worse.

And yes, I really am TV's John Stamos.

2007-09-09 04:44:35 AM
Newsradio is not on the list. This is an outrage.

MST3K is on the list. I'm good.

BudTheSpud: Homicide: Life on the Street

This list is accurate enough for me. They recognised the greatest cop show(Suck it Law and Order/CSI), perhaps the greatest television show in history. Too bad most people weren't smart enough to watch it.

Best cop show ever, in my opinion. But no AfterMASH? Tragic.

And, no, the list doesn't fail, because it is someone's opinion. You can't argue with opinion. Want a list that doesn't fail, make your own list.

2007-09-09 05:37:46 AM

The list is B.S.

No "Get Smart"?

No "Brady Bunch"?

Idiots.

2007-09-09 06:53:16 AM
Too many stupid shows on the list. American Idol? Survivor? When I saw shows like that, I knew the list wasn't accurate.

2007-09-09 06:59:24 AM
Bakudai: firefly was canceled for a reason.

And that reason was Fox changing it's scheduled airtime on a daily basis. Not suprisingly, it didn't really do so well in the ratings, seeing as how no one knew when it was on.

2007-09-09 07:01:25 AM
....to be fair, though, Firefly was not really that revolutionary or important. Star Trek (TOS), Dr. Who, and the old Twilight Zone probably gets the nod for being the most important sci-fi on TV. FireFly just did the formula really, really farking well.

//Watch "Objects in Space", the last episode. If you doubt that show had a future, you have no joy in your soul.

It's obvious to me that we here at FARK.COM need to make a

TOP 100,000 TV SHOWS OF ALL TIME

list to make everyone happy.

However, Match Game should've been on the list.

Too lazy to read their list. Any (or all) of these make it? If not, the list's a joke...

Blackadder
The Young Ones
Bottom
Father Ted
Arrested Development
Freaks and Geeks
The Mighty Boosh
Red Dwarf
Kids in the Hall
Strangers With Candy
Mr Show
League of Gentlemen
and of course - Python's "Flying Circus"

If you really are, you might want to consider that I Love Lucy and Burns and Allen were on when there was less to watch on TV. Most of us old fogies only had a total of three broadcast channels to pick from. Also, if you think about it, Lucy (in particular) was the standard by which much subsequent TV sitcoms would be measured and steal a whole bunch of material. Actually, I can think of a number of other old shows that merited inclusion on this list as much as some of the stuff that did get listed:

1. The Defenders
2. East Side, West Side
3. Rawhide
4. Wagon Train

Is it worth watching?

Eh, the mini series and maybe the first 1.5 seasons are pretty good. Unfortunately, if you do like those first shows I'd say its an even 50/50 you wont like the rest of the 1.5 seasons after that. I sure didnt and with scifi's long breaks, I have less and less interest in the show.

2007-09-09 06:24:46 PM
Not included: Alias (first two seasons), Firefly, Futurama, Gargoyles, Heroes, Jeopardy!, Kids In The Hall, Red Dwarf, Star Trek (DS9, TNG), Veronica Mars

Included: Daytime soap operas (two), I Love Lucy, Lost (after first season), reality shows (three), Star Trek (original)

Fail, fail, fail. EPIC FAIL.

Seriously. American Idol? I Love Lucy? The title says "Best", not "Shows With Big Cultural Impact (No Matter How Little They Deserve To Actually Have Or How Much They Suck Compared To The Best Modern Shows Even If They Were Good Back Then)".

2007-09-09 07:42:47 PM
On the list inadvertently is "Mind of Mencia", which used material from 72 of the shows on the list.

2007-09-09 07:43:38 PM
Also, no Zoobilee Zoo?

King of the Hill is written for smart people. People who find it boring are farking dumb.

Sorry dumbasses.

/Best show on TV.

Dr. Who created, or first introduced mostly everything that makes up modern sci-fi today, including cybernetics and "The Matrix," all done back in the 60's thru the 80's while Star Trek was off the air. For this omission, the author should be: EXTERMINATED!

bhcompy: frostus: married with children sucks, firefly is gods gift to mankind, and king of the hill sucks

so basically you're an old curmudgeon that is trying to relive his star wars pseudo western years through an overrated tv show that had reminds me a lot of hercules/xena in production value and campiness

No, I appreciate quality and you can't read. I didn't say Firefly was god's gift, I said I liked the show a lot. And yes, those other two shows do suck in my opinion and also the opinion of my younger less-curmudgeonly kids.

2007-09-09 11:17:58 PM
Needs Futurama.

2007-09-09 11:20:16 PM
Well, this list is obviously a fail. Where's Family Guy and Curb Your Enthusiasm? First, with Family Guy, can anyone name another show that was canceled then, due to insane support, was put back on the air? That's what Family Guy did. And, Curb Your Enthusiasm has an award list the length of my arm and is just plain good. I think it may even be better than Seinfeld.

2007-09-09 11:41:34 PM
