Oh Miss Crabtree, I have something heavy on my heart...NO LITTLE RASCALS!!

2007-09-08 11:28:15 PM
Missing McGyver, The Rockford Files, CSI, and probably a few more I can't think of off the top of my head.

"This is Jim Rockford at the tone, leave your name and message, I'll get back to you."

BEEP!

Where the fark is House? Wonderfalls? Dead Like Me?

2007-09-08 11:29:47 PM
I was all ready to blast them for not including The CBS Evening News, Rocky and Bullwinkle, or Ernie Kovacs, but they pwned me. But still, no Ed Murrow or Meet the Press.

Just me, I'd put get a Get a Life on there.

2007-09-08 11:31:59 PM
Just looked a little closer at the list...Yikes! They included South Park but excluded the Joe Franklin Show (which ran for 40 years!) ????!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!??!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!? How can a 40-year-old show not be on the all-time list????

/shoots self, thus exiting from thread.

...It's like a critic saying: "Moby Dick" was sort of okay, but "Omoo" was Melville's greatest novel.

It was, if you work a lot of NYTimes crossword puzzles.

2007-09-08 11:40:07 PM
. . . no Rockford Files on the list, implying one hundred shows in the history of idiot box programming are better than . . . this list fails

2007-09-08 11:41:01 PM
Okay...I would trade:

American Idol for Pete and Pete
Buffy for Family Guy
I, Claudious for Get Smart
The Singing Detective for Aqua Teen Hunger Force
Your Show of Shows for Salute Your Shorts

also would have added: Rocko's Modern Life, FLCL, Mr. Ed, and Daria.

Props for M*A*S*H*, King of the Hill, Taxi, and Dragnet. :)

2007-09-08 11:41:51 PM

Homicide: Life on the Street

This list is accurate enough for me. They recognised the greatest cop show(Suck it Law and Order/CSI), perhaps the greatest television show in history. Too bad most people weren't smart enough to watch it.

i just came here to say, as a mike judge fan, that i f*cking hate king of the hill with a passion. the most boring television show ever created.

News Radio is the single greatest creation of Western Civilization

yet it's not on the list

2007-09-08 11:57:54 PM
I'm not seeing "Have Gun, Will Travel". Ran for 7 years and was usually in the top 3 to 5 in the ratings. Pretty good show for not being on the list.

2007-09-08 11:59:14 PM
i DRTFL but was Northern Exposure on there? that was pretty much the best (and most cosmically subversive) show ever. Moonlighting wasn't too shabby either.

Without red dwarf this list fails by an exponential amount.

House is a good show, but mainly because Laurie is such a damn good actor. Plot-wise, it boils down to this:
Patient: "OMG! My left testicle is exploding! And how'd I get in this dark tunnel? Maybe I'll just head for that bright light, seem to be lots of people singing over there...",passes out, lead in to House opening credits.
House decides on course of treatment aided by his peeps.
Course of treatment doesn't work.
House goes to radical new treatment suggested by random member of his team, his buddy Wilson, or the night janitor.
New treatment makes patient's heart stopped. We know somehow they'll manage to bring him back because it's only 32 minutes into the show.
Everyone decides patient is losing case. Patient's wife makes sleeping arrangements with 19-year old pool boy semi-permanent until she can land another rich guy, family makes catering arrangements for the funeral reception ("Not so damn much onion in the gehackte leber, you want more people should drop dead at the reception?")
House gets late night epiphany while being flogged by a Philipino prostitute and popping pills to the sounds of "Baba O'Riley" by The Who. He races back to the hospital on his bike, limps in to the patient's room, throws back the sheet and gives the patient a slap in the face followed by a purple nurple, and the patient immediately jumps out of bed, grabs his wife who has been stroking herself while reading his will, and demands House leave the room. House limps out, smirking. End credits.
Pretty much every House episode to date...

2007-09-09 12:03:52 AM
There are no shows that start with "N" on this list.

Therefore, no Newhart

Bad list. Naughty list.

And the entire thread boils down to "What? My favorite show isn't on this list, so it was obviously compiled by cretins. Coincidentally, your favorite show being on the list means YOU are a cretin. Damn, I am just too cool, cynical, and jaded for words."

Reviewer hates lentils and Buddy Holly.

Most of the list is good but how can they have crap like:

American Idol
The Real World
Survivor

Reality shows which ruined TV.

And forget the best show on TV today.
Rescue me

My favs on the list:

Arrested Development
Freaks and Geeks
Lost
Seinfield

2007-09-09 12:09:07 AM
frostus: married with children sucks, firefly is gods gift to mankind, and king of the hill sucks

so basically you're an old curmudgeon that is trying to relive his star wars pseudo western years through an overrated tv show that had reminds me a lot of hercules/xena in production value and campiness

2007-09-09 12:10:22 AM
24 - first season was original and good - the rest of it sucked.
60 Minutes - Isn't Andy Rooney dead yet?
Alfred Hitchcock - ROCKS!
All In The Family - ROCKS!
An American Family - Never heard of it
Arrested Development - BEST SHOW EVER - only Sitcom I have on DVD
Battlestar Galactica - They're kidding, right?
Beavis & Butthead - highly overrated
Bob Newhart Show - ROCKS!
Buffy - Yeah, I'd hit that.
Cosby Show - yeah - when I was 12 (why not include The Brady Bunch while you're at it?)
Daily Show - highly overrated
Friends - WORST SHOW EVER
Honeymooners - ROCKS!
King of the HILL - ROCKS!
David Letterman - highly overrated - not as bad as Craig Kilborn though
Married With Children - cutting edge for its time, but Unhappily Ever After ripped it off and showed them how it SHOULD have been done (besides, Nikki Cox makes Christina Applegate look homely).
M*A*S*H - ROCKS!
Monty Python - Slightly overrated
MST3K - SUCKED
Odd Couple - yeah, that was good
The Office - okay - either Brit or American versions
Price is Right - Yeah - if I were still 7 years old and had the flu
The Prisoner - BEST drama EVER (okay - except for The Shield, Rescue Me and The Avengers - and Alfred Hitchcock - anything else? nahh)
Sanford And Son - ROCKS!
SCTV - Funnier than SNL - which isn't saying much, but it was really good.
Seinfeld - highly overrated. Good the first time around - reruns SUCK!
The Shield - BEST COP SHOW EVER (even better than Hawaii 5-O)
The Simpsons - Almost as good as Futurama!
Soap - Rocks
South Park - 8 out of 10 episodes ROCK! - the rest suck
Star Trek - Original series rocked - the rest suck ass
Stupor Bowl - WORST SHOW EVER - ads are hit and miss.
Survivor - they're kidding again, aren't they?
Taxi - Best sitcom ever (except for maybe Newhart or WKRP or MASH - neglecting Arrested Development, which is in a class by itself)
Twilight Zone - Oh yeah - it rocks.
West Wing - excellent series premiere - very good first 2-3 seasons - then BORING
WKRP - See comment about Taxi

Conspicuously absent:

Get Smart
Newhart (his second sitcom)
Futurama
Unhappily Ever After
Barney Miller ("He's stoned, Barney!")

American Dad
Family Guy
Bugs Bunny/Road Runner Hour
I Spy
DC Follies
Laugh In

Honorable mentions:

Chappelle's Show
Mind of Mencia
Politically Incorrect
Scrubs (Make Seinfeld look amateurish - which it was)
Beverly Hillbillies
Speed Racer
HR Puffinstuff (just had to throw that in there)

House is a good show, but mainly because Laurie is such a damn good actor.

That, by itself, makes it better than 99% of what's on TV these days.

/props to delicflower13x3 for remembering "Daria"- can't beleive I forgot that one!
//Like Im in ur Fark, I watch "American Idol", but would never put in in a top anything list

2007-09-09 12:16:03 AM

Conspicuously absent fromt he list I just posted (sorry about that, Chief)

Also Red Dwarf and Due South

Honorable mentions also go to Hogan's Heroes (you haven't lived until you've seen it dubbed in German) and Green Acres

BTW, Prison Break does NOT deserve to make the list - even though I keep watching it, it's mostly for the comic relief which is not intentional
blipsman: How did CSI not make the list?

LMAO - you're joking, right?

Other honorable mentions:

NYPD Blue
Ally McBeal (yeah, it was funny - and bizarre (screw you if you disagree - it was funny if you could ignore Calista Flockhart))

Dishonorable mention:

MXC
