God I love trout fishing.

Give me a fly rod, an ultralight, a 40-degree fast-running stream and a six pack and I'm in heaven.

Trout fishing on the Little Red and/or White River is one of the only activities I'll get my butt out of bed at 5 a.m. for.

Wait, what? Ohh, saving trout. I see.

They're still good eating ...

Yes, Subby brought in Ward Churchill, so that means it will automatically take a political turn in short order.

So let me get this straight:

They have been trying for 20 years to save an endangered fish, they were doing it wrong the entire time and yet the fish is still around...

Does this fish really need our help?

Somewhere Ward Churchill is claiming to be a Native American and laughing the exact same way as someone else, without giving them credit, while blaming the government

Smitty is an idiot. If he/she is trying to imply that it was the CU researchers who screwed up, he/she may want to RTFA again. It was the state Fish and Wildlife Service that has been screwing up (if anybody). It was the CU researchers who discovered the problem.

In short, these researchers conducted ACTUAL research, and didn't just make up "facts" as they went along, unlike our former esteemed "professor."

Yes ... I live in Boulder.

if only there was some type of research field that allowed people to identify different species of fish

The subby said "Ward" the government leader was "Winston." He used the wrong Churchill thereby making the same mistake. Humor and funny are 2 different things.

Although it doesn't really make sense as this has nothing to do with England, WW2, or fat men.

2007-09-05 06:21:37 PM
If you think about it deeply, the way trouts do, you'll realize this is exactly how Hitler and The Nazis came to power. They used flawed research, turned it into propaganda, and made "little Eichmans" out of 6 Million Jews...

My guess would be schadenfreude, though I doubt ole Ward had any clue as to what was happening in another department. Most of us don't even know where the other departments are located.

The study said that out of nine populations of fish believed to be endangered greenback cutthroat trout that had been stocked or were descendants of survivors, five were actually the Colorado River cutthroat trout, which look similar but are a separate and more common subspecies.

If they are so similar that the experts can't tell the difference 5 out of 9 times then who cares!?!?!!??!!

2007-09-05 06:28:06 PM
Yeah, must be the schadenfreude angle, though I agree it's still a weird-ass headline.

When only the spleen of the Greenback Cutthroat can cure your cancer and the spleen of the regular cutthroat is useless, you'll be singing a different tune, mister.

Heck if I know. I don't get it either. I just figured that was what it was. Maybe the state because they "run" the university? Mostly, I think this stupid headline just went green to hurt nunoyo's feelings.

I believe technically that would only be a threesome. I always assumed that "orgy" implied at least four participants, but I could be wrong.
