(Chicago Breaking News)   Folks in small Missouri town where Jesse James was famously kilt are a mite miffed that Brad Pitt's new movie chose to film the incident in Canada   (chicagotribune.com) divider line 28

They really need to get over it. He was a criminal, who if he was around nowadays would be seen shirtless on cops.

My hometown of Northfield, MN was where the James/Younger gang ran into trouble. I can't comment on exact figures but they lost a significant portion of the gang causing Jesse to run his arse off back ti Missouri.

The annual festival there is aptly named 'Defeat of Jesse James Days'.

When 'The Ten Commandments' was filmed, Moses parted the Dead Sea....in Burbank.

Yet there wasn't weeping and gnashing of teeth.

So even when a film is made in Canada it's still Hollywood making it? I bet the union run shops in Hollywood don't think so. It's well known that movie makers go to places that they are most welcome. Missouri should have tried harder.

Jesse James is part of my family tree, and I look like Brad Pitt. Okay...only one of those statements is true.

Well he might have been shirtless on COPS or a Democrat, like the Kennedy's (Rum runners)

You know exactly why this was, the Hollywood liberals didn't want to give any money to the red state inbreds that populate the substandard and useless part of the country that James was from.

So they go to Canada, home of latte sipping liberals like themselves, and make money ripping off the story of honest Americans like James.

Man thats gotta burn.

Call up Limbaugh and tell him how y'all feel about it.

Oh, btw if anyone cares, Seattle hasn't been Seattle in films for about 15 years, its always filmed in Vancouver BC.

Jesse James is a cousin of mine. That statement really is true.

Howard is my maiden name. He changed his last name to Howard while on the run.

I guess we now know how Brad really feels about his home state. St. Joe might be a smaller town, but Kansas City is only an hour away if they needed big city stuff. And Brad could've taken a small plane down to Springfield to visit his folks over a weekend. What a jerk!

You sir have obviously never been to Alberta... it's more like Texas than well... Texas. Plenty of good westerns have been made here too, ala Unforgiven, and Wyatt Earp, Open Range etc... need I go on?

The real reason they did not film in a small Missouri town:

It's all about the almighty $. Way cheaper in Canada to film. Vancover = Los Angeles, Toronto = NYC.

Old Tucson. The great westerns were filmed there. Tombstone, The Quick and the Dead, Arizona, Gunfight at the OK Corral, The Badlanders, El Dorado, Three Amigos... need I go on?

...and nothing is more like Texas than Texas. Texas has vastly different topography and weather all over the state.

I drove through St Joe this weekend, so I'm really get a kick out of these replies..

I'm related to Cole Younger, and by that plantation owners, and the "rebels" that tried to keep Kansas from becoming a "free" state.

Ah well.

I lived in/around Joe town from 4th grade til I was 21.

St. Joseph Missouri, where the Pony Express began and Jesse James ended. And home of the lowest paid police department (per capita)
That was on a bill board on one of the main streets in St. Joe for a LONG time when I was in high school. Now, just the first part has been adopted as the town motto.

St. Joseph Missouri, a nice town to be FROM.

St Joe isn't the worst place to live. There is the entire state of Utah, Darfur, Beruit, and on either US coast. They ought to debut it in St Joe. The town needs a boost. I appeal to Brad Pitt. Somewhere, beneath that Hollywood BS, there is a Branson Outlet Mall Shoppin'- Kearney St. Cruisin' - Nat Light Chuggin then Highyway Sign Chuckkin' - First Cousin Lovin' Ozark Hillbilly Redneck ready to bust out. He is from Springfield, after all.

I drive through St. Joe from time to time. The only thing that excites me about that town is that I'm only a half hour away from the nearest Waffle House.

The reason they filmed in Canada was mainly for Fort Edmonton Park, an authentic pioneer park. They have the buildings they needed (so they wouldn't have to build sets) and a real steam train which the studio paid to refurbish which probably would have been cheaper than building one or using badly done green screen.

He'll be deep in the cold, cold ground before he recognizes Missoura!

Maybe not, but Alberta has everything from vast plains to big cities,to small towns, lakes, rivers, desert like canyons, and the most beautiful mountains in the world.
