... The Aristocrats?

Maybe having a Pit bull is probable cause now?
Damn you Fark! I was watching the video and the daughter came on and said "He didn't do nothing wrong!" and my first thought was "So, he did something wrong then?"

That was a *lot* of cops on that guy, there has to be more to this story than meets the eye. Unless Yonkers cops are clowns in their spare time.

2007-09-02 06:35:46 AM
Uh, beatdown? All I saw was a black guy struggling and cops having to carry him.

2007-09-02 06:36:47 AM
Farking scary. Like things haven't changed much from the Wild West days, when a sheriff and his posse might just be a hired gang.

2007-09-02 06:40:11 AM
Of course they only show the part at the end where he is already handcuffed and being carried away, because he won't walk standing up like a man.

Once again, the MSM news shows only that portion of tape that illicits the highest amount of drama for pure shock value.

And of course, the gullible Subby, who is also no doubt a daily viewer of Jerry Springer takes the bait hook line and sinker.

2007-09-02 06:44:31 AM
you know, just the other day I was wondering, "is there really that many police around that they pay some of them to sit in bathrooms at the airport and try to get a reach-around from creepy old men"

this video says, "why yes, yes there is"

Good.

Now they just need to do that to all pitbull owners and their dogs. farking dipshiat.

The world would have been a better place had Vick killed a few more pitbulls.

Dammit, when subby says (w/beatdown caught on video), I want to see an actual, unqualified, Rodney King-style beating! Restrained on the ground? Carried to the police car? Pfft, that barely qualifies for "Cops".

BTW, what happened with the dog? Pit bulls are supposed to attack with only the slightest provocation. Here, a full melee occurs right in front of it, and -- apparently -- the dog does nothing.

2007-09-02 06:52:25 AM
This kind of stuff doesn't surprise me. Yonkers is a pretty interesting place with lots of varied sections to it.

The cops there are big time dickheads though, I'll not argue with that.

2007-09-02 06:57:42 AM
Hmmm.... I,m conflicted. One the one hand you have cops, and on the other a pit bull owner, so I'm not really sure which way I ought to be biased. Seriously though, much as I dislike cops, there isn't anything in that video that could be considered brutality. And the statements in the video, especially the one about racial slurs, make it sound like the family is just making shiat up.

Well, like most dogs, a major portion of their personality is in how they're raised & trained. You can train a Pekingese to attack people randomly, and you can train a Rottweiler to sit there and look pathetic while somebody pokes it with a stick.

Word. My family has a mastiff who was a rescue once upon a time, and she's over 160 pounds of cowardice. She'll bark when she sees you pass the doorway, then sit there and worriedly wiggle her eyebrows at you if you come up to her. That's about it.

I just a love a nice heart warming story from my hometown.

2007-09-02 08:15:38 AM
Look, I don't mean to be the guy that defends the cops here, but there wasn't a beat down happening there at all. They lifted him. There was no beating there.

What happened was the usual 'person that doesn't know how to handle the police adding more charges.'

Handy tip: If the police tell you to get in the car. Get in the freaking car. You will have to get in the car, no matter what, you're only adding charges if you resist. Don't get slammed around and charged with fifteen things because of a drunken disorderly, or an infraction. Don't make them take you downtown if you only violated some leash law. At the point you're at, the cop is going to take you in. If he needs to call a hundred cops and taser the living hell out of you, he's going to do it.

Cops are, by nature of the job, ARREST MACHINES. They're not much else. They troll, investigate, and arrest. It is their job description. If they get you in their mind? Arrested.

Arrest means stop. That's all it is. It doesn't mean you've committed a crime. If you're in the back of the squad car, that means an officer thinks you've committed a crime. A lot of people are arrested and released on the spot. Handcuffs off. Have a nice day. Chances are, that was what was going to happen with a man and a dog. Maybe he would have had a court appearance where a judge would have rolled his eyes, and he was out $75. When he freaked? Welcome to jail.

Freaking out will get months in jail. It will get you more court time. It will make you look guiltier. You will have D.A.s that get wiggle room in your case, so they get their high conviction records upheld. They will have more to bring up in your case. They might only charge you with fighting the cops, at which point you could have been free from jail time entirely. Judges are ususally not lenient with multiple charges.

D.A.s LOOOOOVE multiple charges. Let's them screw with you. Gives them bargaining power, instead of dropping your piddly case.

Also, they didn't beat him. They lifted him. It's exceedingly common for the police to do that. It's keeps him from hurting anyone.

Either way, he was arrested. You must know what to do when you're arrested.

I am not saying that what has happened is right or wrong. I am saying that you must never say a word or screw with the cops when they arrest you. You must never speak until you have a lawyer present. Keep your trap shut. Keep your hands to yourself. The cop is going to write down, on paper, for everyone to read, anything you do. Cops protect themselves in court that way. Pray to goodness that you don't get one that likes the paperwork, or he'll document your eye twitches. If you're drunk and threatening them, they'll mail a camera phone video to the D.A. and use it.

Moral of the story:
Do NOT, no matter what the cost, have a caveman moment with a cop.

Amateur.

First you check for a camera. If there's one rolling, THEN you resist!

For the record, still believe the accused more than the cops in this case. But then, maybe that's just because the people I've known that became cops were the bullies in my high school.

2007-09-02 08:26:13 AM
Everything about this story is stupid. First, why did they arrest him? Second. Why does it take 8 cops to cuff one moran. No mention of the dog... What language is the mother and daughter speaking. Why didn't they just shoot the dog and keep going. Where is the brutality? They don't mention what the justification was for arresting this moran. Also, "Their spokesperson will not be available to answer questions about this case until Tuesday".
Why not just say, his dog attacked someone, he was carrying a gun, he had a warrant etc, why not give some reason? Even a made up one.

All of the tips about how to not make it worse when a crew of cops gets you in the cross hairs are nice - but how about keeping the focus where it belongs. The FBI is already investigating this department for shenanigans of this sort, and while there was no "beatdown" that I saw, that's setting the bar pretty low - not for some in this thread, but then again it's Fark. The guy was out walking his dog with his wife and daughter (not sure why it was mentioned what kind of dog he had because it's not relevant), and 5-10 minutes later multiple officers are forcing him away for no apparent reason? I heard many swear that there "had to be more to the story" when the guy was filled full of holes after his bachelor party, but the truth is you don't want to admit when those who "protect and serve" turn into someone's worst nightmare. Just because they didn't crack this guys head doesn't mean they didn't go way over the line. While multiple cops were wasting time here, what other incidents needed backup and didn't get it? Where should all of those cops have been on patrol that they weren't, and what went on during this little party? How much MORE damage is now done to the already fractured relationship between the community and those charged with protecting it? Nothing excuses this incident and nothing good comes of it. Save the excuses and "i don't see any beatdown" comments because they don't matter. The cops here are a disgrace to good police officers everywhere who do the job right. Real officers don't swarm on guys out walking the dog w/their families while using racial slurs when there's more than enough actual crime out there.

Now go back to justifying the actions of every bad cop out there, farkers - have at it. I already know some of you who'll be here in this thread before long. I know why, too.

Um, no. The guy was out walking his dog on a leash with his wife and kid. He was approached by the police, and asked if the dog was his. He said it wasn't. The police, for some unknown reason, found this suspicious.

First of all, if in fact this guy lied about the dog being his, so farking what - show me where that equals the treatment he got in that video clip? Were the boys in unis that scared of the black guy that they had to go and call all of their friends to carry him away? Why? Was he armed? Did he threaten them? No mention of anything like that and I believe the police department would make sure that if he did, it'd be mentioned. If the cops are carrying away everyone who lies to them, I expect to see video clips like this popping up everywhere. Don't try and convince me that because someone may or may not have told the truth about a dog belonging to them that the police acted appropriately. What did the man do in the first place that caused him to be approached by the police? Anyone got an answer for that one?

If the ownership of such a dog is illegal, or if the dog itself had been used in an attack, it very well might be relevant. As for the "why you shouldn't lie to the police" bit, well, the fact that lying to the police can be a criminal act in and of itself MIGHT have something to do with it. For example: Around here, if you witness a crime, and are asked by police what you saw, and you tell them that it was Homer Simpson and he ran up a wall and disappeared after shooting Tookie, well, I hate to say this, but your actions have just broken the law. The police investigate when people break the law.

2007-09-02 08:53:48 AM
Yeah. I used to live on Warburton Ave. in Yonkers, and I'm not at all shocked by this. Cops around there are definite feminine hygiene products; however, I really, really doubt that this guy was just "out walking his dog." He was probably sitting on his front step, yelling at people as they walked by. His "officer, this dog isn't mine. A friend went away for a week to the Catskills and asked if I wouldn't mind watching it" was probably more along the lines of "Yeah, what is it to you? I got a pitbull and use it to protect my product. What, pitbulls are illegal? Oh, then this isn't mine!" By that point, the cop had called for backup- hence the many officers, and then the idiot is resisting arrest, not getting a beatdown.

And you have to wonder how many of those complaints are similar. Suspect is an arsewipe and files a brutality complaint for minimum force required. Mind, minimum force is probably along these lines, because no one ever goes quietly.

First of all, if in fact this guy lied about the dog being his, so farking what - show me where that equals the treatment he got in that video clip?

Lying to the police isn't nice. In some jurisdictions, it's a crime. In all jurisdictions, it's cause to further detain a suspect for investigation. As for the treatment that the guy "got", he was cuffed. He was taken off the car by ONE officer. He started resisting the officer. Other officers CARRIED him to a car. They didn't beat him, I saw no kicks to his head or groin on the video, and I understand that his large intestine was NOT perforated by a broken-off toilet plunger. So what cause does he have to be biatching???

You seem to be under the impression that the police can't walk the street and have polite conversations with people without probable cause. That is not the case. I suspect that probable cause became involved when the man gave an obviously obfuscatory response to the police.

Pit bull ownership should be criminalized. I support the unconditional genocide of all of the killing breeds of dogs. Denial of the reality of the existence of killing breeds of dogs ("but my dog is such a sweetie and wouldn't harm a flea") should also be criminalized, just like Holocaust denial is in some of the more civilized countries of the world.
