Nice to see AOL so close behind them.

this is almost as good at the anti-unix website M$ put up that was hosted on a unix server.

And what do we do with witches.......
2002-09-19 09:32:06 AM
It only works if you put the quotation marks in, as in "Go to hell".
2002-09-19 09:33:31 AM
Apparent Nuisance:
It only works if you put the quotation marks in, as in "Go to hell".

And the problem with that is....
2002-09-19 09:44:14 AM
I was more thrilled to see the "University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill" on the list!
2002-09-19 09:47:16 AM
try just 'gotohell' in ie and see what you get
2002-09-19 09:48:49 AM
you used to be able to go to askjeeves and type "are you gay?" and then a whole bunch of responses would come up including "is jeeves gay?" and if you clicked on that it would say that's a personal question and it is none of your business!!!! but it doesn't work anymore
2002-09-19 10:09:56 AM
I wish CNN still had the article about the argument over who was going to hell followed by the shotgun slaying. Anyone know where to find that story?
2002-09-19 10:11:01 AM
"Actually, I prefer the term jovial."
2002-09-19 10:19:52 AM
Perfect...Just perfect.
2002-09-19 10:21:35 AM
one of the funniest things i've seen in a while... reminds me of that easter egg in word98 (not sure about other versions) where if you typed "i want to kill bill gates" or something like that and checked the thesaurus on it, it would say something along the lines of "ill drink to that!"

funny guys at M$
2002-09-19 10:27:47 AM
Wow, Microsoft, AOL and CNN! Someone should call the Feds. This is an obvious conspiracy.
2002-09-19 10:29:21 AM
Okay... someone want to tell me why that search brings up MS? Hell isn't mentioned anywhere on the page or in the code.

You can't tell me it's a result of the backlinks thing Google uses. Or if you do, I suggest we start linking to microsoft with the phrase 'Teenage cheerleader sluts'...
2002-09-19 10:32:21 AM
Silly questions: 1) was the word 'hell' actually on that page, and 2) if not (not even the cached one as far as I can tell), why does it come up?
2002-09-19 10:32:45 AM
The first time I clicked on the "Go to hell" link I got "No route to host", which seemed quite appropriate.
2002-09-19 10:34:09 AM
He turned me into a newt...
2002-09-19 10:46:29 AM
That is farking funny!
2002-09-19 10:47:03 AM
hell is in hello
2002-09-19 10:49:20 AM
So obvious. Good work, Google.
2002-09-19 10:49:41 AM
Why it goes to microsoft from hell:

Google ranking is based on links to the page, and what the text of the link is. For example, Chocolate Covered Turkey Droppings just increased fark's pagerank for 'chocolate covered turkey droppings. What this means is that there's a lot of webpages like this: Go to hell. Try googling for "talentless hack". It's been done before.
2002-09-19 10:53:43 AM
So what's the story with It's been up for many years, and it's always been a point of curiosity for me. One time I managed to get in to the site just playig around with their pages, and it had all the crazy ass wav files...just a bunch of gibberish. Anways, always wondered what the story was behind it.

HotBlack: How do you know he is a witch?
2002-09-19 10:58:10 AM
A couple years ago, Google pointed "More Evil Than Satan Himself" to Microsoft's website... Microsoft must have complained, because it doesn't anymore. :)

The best was when 'dumb motherfarker' searches went to the website of George W Bush. Hahaha.
2002-09-19 11:47:47 AM
In a few months when you do that search, I'm sure it will no longer point to MS's page, but thousands of pages that describe this "Go to Hell" and what it does.

Same thing happened to more evil than satan himself.
2002-09-19 11:49:21 AM
Google knows the truth.

I typed in "I want to kill Bill Gates" on Word 98 and it comes up "I drink to you" and "I appreciate it"

2002-09-19 12:48:41 PM
I'm sure badgirlsgotohell dot org is still trying to figure out why the sudden surge in hits today.
2002-09-19 12:50:39 PM
How about just go to and learn that Bill Gates IS Satan
2002-09-19 01:06:03 PM
well, it doesn't work anymore. microsoft is gone.

i mean, gone from the list, not gone.

yarr, pirate day!

Laughs... a lot
I love it!

Les'see... If you went to UNC and now work for Microsoft... hmmmm...
2002-09-19 01:29:26 PM
Hmmm I posted this exact search today with a very similar headline... whats going on?
2002-09-19 01:31:30 PM
This brings a whole new meaning to "Where do you want to go today?"
2002-09-19 01:37:37 PM
"I'm sure badgirlsgotohell dot org is still trying to figure out why the sudden surge in hits today."

That's called Fark by Proxy!

Click on the "cached" link for the 1st response--goes to a weird, semi-googlish looking page, but one that I've never seen before. I was trying to see what the banner was that had "go to hell" highlighted, or was waiting to see the ever-amusing "Go to hell" only appears in links pointing to this page, but it's something else entirely.
2002-09-19 02:02:42 PM
Actually the first time I clicked it I didn't see the top one, I just saw AOL and though that was the joke.

Microsoft, AOL,

whats the diff?
2002-09-19 02:44:18 PM
Icthyologist, regarding the site, if you click around long enough, you get to a place where you can sign up to be on a mailing list. Then every once it a while they send you a link to an art project they've done on the site, or an event. It's usually interesting.
2002-09-19 03:14:48 PM
Here's the answer to the question: Is Jeeves gay?
2002-09-19 03:53:36 PM
Why am I not suprised?
2002-09-19 04:27:04 PM

Oh man I am in tears
2002-09-19 05:17:32 PM
I think this was an easter egg put in by google after the joke that went around on the internet a few years ago during microsoft's "where do you want to go today?" campaign. In one of M$'s TV spots, they had some choral music in the background. Translated from latin, it was something like "All of the disbelievers shall burn in hell for all eternity." All this while the words "Where do you want to go today?" were on the screen. any verification of this?

TwIne & WriteInCandidate

My answer: Meta-Tags? Wouldn't make a whole lot of sense, except for the fact that Bill's riding the publicity of the search words.
2002-09-19 05:46:54 PM
Google's definition of I love you
2002-09-19 06:39:38 PM
Google needs to farm that out to the FBI. It might help the Feds capture those terrorists.
2002-09-19 07:12:34 PM
Good one, Volcano.

I like how AOL comes up third :)
2002-09-20 01:02:43 AM
It's called Google Bombing, and it's fun...

Just get other 'blogs to rally around a website (or against, in this case) and put a link to their site which reads a certain phrase, and when enough people do it, it goes to the top of Google!

So, go to hell Microsoft!
2002-09-20 12:22:45 PM
You think I love you is interesting, try I want you!
2002-10-02 12:16:45 AM
actually it doesnt go here anymore, microsoft probably threatened legal action. wow, im like a few weeks too late for this
