This audio is farking stupid. Hey! You put your hand under the stall! Your foot touched mine!

What-the-fark-ever.

2007-08-30 04:45:20 PM
I haven't been following this story closely (I have a pretty wicked case of RSF. Republican Scandal Fatigue.), so I won't make any comments about whether he's guilty or was entrapped, but it seems kind of scummy for them to release this audio.

I do this all the time ... in the women's bathroom.

From a strictly neutral point of view, he was an idiot for signing a confession and/or accepting a plea deal. Any lawyer worth his salt should have been able to beat this. He just didn't have the guts to fight it and took the cowards way out.
And now when he whines about the newspaper and everything it just makes him look not only guilty, but like a jackass as well.

For the immediate future I will unfortunately laugh like a juvenile the next time I hear a baseball play-by-play color guy talk about how a certain batter employs "a wide stance" at the plate.

Senator Craig, meet Jeff Bagwell:

I agree. He's a senator. Normally in court the cop has the benefit of the doubt but this senator could easily have gotten a top-notch lawyer to shoot this down easily. He screwed up on all fronts. Not only is he a closet homosexual, he's also a really stupid one.

Please remember that this is the same guy who, some years ago, held a press conference to deny his involvement with male pages when no one had accused him of such.

Hell, he farked up as soon as he told the cop that he would like to make a statement, instead of demanding his lawyer. FWIW, the cop sounded like a douchebag. The audio makes the entire "scandal" seem like political bullshiat.

2007-08-30 04:53:40 PM
I listened to the audio and the only think I can figure is that the guy reached down with his right hand to pick up the piece of paper and perhaps braced himself for leaning down by grasping the wall of the stall with his left but doesn't really remember doing it since it would be an unconscious thing to do.

I just don't understand where it in any way sounds like he was trying to get laid? *shrug*

Oh I know. I watched the video. I am just commenting on the audio here. It's pretty farking weak.

yuuucky. what a horrible mental image.

On another note, I am learning waaaay more about the crapping habits of the North American Senator than I ever... ever wanted to know.

Is the headline's referred comment in the audio? I didn't see it in the body of the article.

/at work, so not listening to audio
//no i don't have headphones
///the printed interview isn't extremely informative. i don't see a smoking gun (altho i do see some obfuscation)

While any lawyer worth his salt could have gotten this guy off, his excuse about reaching down is pretty pathetic. Who reaches down and picks up toilet paper off the floor in a public restroom? That is why you demand a lawyer when you are guilty. Gives you time to think up a better story.

2007-08-30 05:07:53 PM
He should have lawyered up, but dude was lookin' for some man on man lovin'.

2007-08-30 05:12:04 PM
That audio is steamy! Added to my audioporn collection for the car.

2007-08-30 05:13:08 PM
I really need to remix this with a techno beat and some funky sirens.

I'll call it "I do not recall."

2007-08-30 05:14:27 PM
Yea, as a couple people have said, you NEVER make a statement without a lawyer present. NEVER!
Guilty, innocent, whatever. When they read you your rights you don't say another word other than, "I wish to speak to my attorney."
I doubt the cop had any political agenda, he was acting like every cop I have ever seen during questioning. That act usually works if the cop takes his time and keeps pushing. Almost always the perp will say something stupid.

JohnnyC: braced himself for leaning down by grasping the wall of the stall with his left

When I'm having a big one, I grasp the undersides of both stall walls to brace myself, and then I scream for an epidural.

Afterwards, I casually whistle washing my hands and checking in the mirror as if nothing big happened.

bitteroldman: I doubt the cop had any political agenda

I didn't mean to imply that there were political motivations on the cop's behalf, but the whole "this is embarrassing. People vote for you." soapbox moment seemed a bit strange to me.

How so?

All of the illegal activity happened before the senator identified himself. Are you suggesting that this particular cop sits in the john arresting everyone that enters on the off chance that one of them is a Republican M.C.?

JohnnyC writes: I just don't understand where it in any way sounds like he was trying to get laid?

Maybe that's because you don't understand the signaling process. It's been around for a very, very long time. And policemen are trained to recognize it for what it is: a courtship ritual.

One thing you have to remember is that these signals are deliberately ambiguous -- as all surreptitious signals are -- so that only people in the know will be attracted by it. This bathroom ritual is, as someone noted recently, sexual semaphore.

Done. Still doesn't answer the question.

Whatever the cop said at the airport station makes no difference to the fact that the activity occurred. And how the fark does the cop's noting that this guy is a person in a position of trust make it political?

2007-08-30 05:51:31 PM
It sounds as though the policeman was trying to give the Senator a break, but then after the Senator's explanation was like, "Come on, dude, you know what was up. Don't try to play me for fool."

Exactly.

A few of little known facts:

1) Policemen are not stupid.
2) Policemen do not like to be lied to.
3) Whatever your excuse, the policemen has heard it before.

Lying to a cop is the worst thing you can do in this kind of situation. Either tell him the whole truth...or keep your damn mouth shut and wait for a lawyer.

always wait for your lawyer, unless it is a public defender. If you get a public defender, practice self-inflicted buttrape, in preparation for that long vacation in PMITA prison

If you were to claim that this affair has become political, I'd agree. But the politicization has NOTHING to do with the cop.

2007-08-30 06:03:21 PM
The President will probably ask the Senator to fight it, the trial would be awesome and take away the focus from that boring war in Iraq and will allow a little more time to quietly start a war with Iran.
