Superstitious goalkeepers tend to stink...literally. They tend to not wash certain "lucky" items such as socks or shirts or worse. Fortunately they don’t typically sweat as bad as field players but still, after a few matches a courtesy wash is in order.

Both games.

They both evolved (along with rugby and a host of other sports) from the primordial football games played in medieval Europe.

Sports played by peasants were sometimes referred to as "football" because they were played on foot, as opposed to sports played by aristocrats, which were played on horseback.
