Well if you go by the real DFAS website... there is no E10.

I'm retired AF and had to look it up as I certainly didn't remember the CMSAF being anything but a specialty paid E-9.

MaximusIncontinius: There is one E-10 per branch at all times. Just in case you didn't know.

The Sgt Major of the Army is an E-9, his position is uperior, but there is no E-10 rank

Same thing if you look at the O-10 who is Chairman of the Joint Chiefs, his position is superior to all the other O-10s but he isn't an O-11

2007-08-27 05:14:36 PM
An NCO/SNCO is an enlisted man, not an officer.

I was an E-4 in the Marine Corps. I was an NCO. Sure, it has "Officer" in it, but good luck trying to get out of scrubbing the shiatters during field day with that.

An E-7 barely has the clout to wipe his own arse.

That is all.

Ok, how bout we stick with TODAY's military, or perhaps you'd like to be addressed as Centurion?

Current Master Chief Petty Officer of the Navy is Joe R. Campa
Current Sergeant Major of the Army is Kenneth O. Preston

Should I keep going?

The E designation is a pay grade, I sure hope yuo were never in charge of anyone if you were ever in.

I was too busy becoming a killing machine to worry about being "in charge".

And hey, try sticking to actual MILITARY (new window) sites for references and not stuff someone made up as they went along

Not sure if you know this, but Navy.mil IS a Military site.

My wife actually worked on premature tie rod failure on the blackhawk, so I'm getting a real kick...

Actually in this case they had vendor A and vendor B. Vendor A charged a whole lot more. Vendor B's parts seemingly made spec, but only if you cherry picked the good ones.

The army bought B.

Turns out the quality control on the heat treating was not up to spec. Faced with throwing out a few million dollars in parts, the Army just decided to re-treat the parts themselves.

In the words of my wife: "You will never, never, never fly in a military chopper. IS THAT CLEAR?"

Well to me that seems to reflect poorly on the military (pentagon), and not necessarily the soldiers themselves.

Let me ask you this, does the insignia worn by the MCPON differ from a Master Chief?

MCPON collar device has three stars on the collar device, the usual two for Master Chief, and the third on the top of the anchor (like a Senior Chief). For sleeve insignia, it's for above the crow and one where the rating device usually is.

one thing i learned from my paratrooper days was to be able to read between the lines on News Stories...

So many special ops and shiat going down and if anything ever goes bad it gets news as being a training accident etc.

Having been in the Army do I believe foul play could be involved?

Hell yes.

Apparently, if he was in the Navy, he was an E-4 living in California, and nobody with his name had ever attended any service academy.

I still belive in the lone gunman with a magic bullet from the Grassy sand dune brought down the Chopper with a single round that went through the head of the pilot, the sholder of the co-pilot and then penitrated the Hydrolic system and caused the fuel lines to freeze from the cold caused by Global Warming and amplified by Bush's Weather Machine.

One of the Lances in my Aircrew class put on CPL, he was not a happy camper doing runs that week. All the same, my left arm was pretty much useless for a couple of days after I put on Third.

Ad I would like to officially denounce myself for my previous statement that cited the existence of E-10. It is proof that I am indeed a moran.

Isn't some of the danger due to the change in the way helicopters are flown in Iraq. I thought after a few helicopters were shot down in Iraq, normal flight was changed to very low and very fast.

This would have to be a pretty special E-7 to waste 2 warrant officers and a squad of other NCOs/enlisted plus a bajillion dollar chopper.

UnkleKrakker: Same thing if you look at the O-10 who is Chairman of the Joint Chiefs, his position is superior to all the other O-10s but he isn't an O-11

Technically the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs is the highest ranking general. Theoretically this could be any rank should some bizaar retirement surge occurred.

The highest officer rank attainable in the Army is the five star general, General of the Army. A temporary rank used only in times of declared war.

2007-08-27 05:28:53 PM
koba22: AirForceVet: Outtaphase: Sgt. not equal officer, subby.

Submitter was technically correct. Pay grades 0-1 & up are commissioned officers. Generally, pay grades E-5 & up are noncommissioned officers (NCOs) in all military branches while some start NCO status at the E-4 pay grade.

No NCO is going to claim being an officer, though. Calling an NCO a superior officer doesn't work. Unless you're in the air force where everyone thinks they are an officer.

Ha ha ha. We certainly had people who thought they were but no one was going to be dumb enough to make that claim. Seriously, who'd want people to mistake you for a butter bar?

I can link to the DOD site but it's pdf (new window) and a bit slow to load

Please take note of:
4. For the Master Chief Petty Officer of the Navy, Chief Master Sergeant of the AF, Sergeant Major of the Army or Marine Corps or Senior Enlisted Advisor of the JCS, basic pay is $6,642.60

It is Position Pay, not E-10

in the same sense as:
2. While serving as Chairman, Joint Chief of Staff/Vice Chairman, Joint Chief of Staff, Chief of Navy Operations, Commandant of the Marine Corps, Army/Air Force Chief of Staff, Commander of a unified or
specified combatant command, basic pay is $15,959.40 (See note 1 above

is not O-11

Nah, the lone gunman is the guy who takes out multi-million dollar US tanks with one round of some tiny funky ammunition.

Who knows what it was and who fired it but it did the trick unfortunately.
