grizzlyjohnson: P.S. I also work with a woman in her mid 30's that's hotter than hell and dresses like a slutty 7th grader, so go figure. All I can say is, daddy like.

I briefly dated one of these. My guess is that she probably didn't have the hot body in her teens, but now she did (implants and all) and wanted to dress like she wished she could have at that age. Even better, she was an assistant principal at a middle school, and just couldn't seem to figure out why the kids didn't respect her. Luckily, I got out of there before I had to explain it to her. For having a master's degree from a major university, she wasn't too bright.

Why not just go to goodwill if you're that concerned with today's fashions? You'll have a selection of the best fashions of the 70s right through to the 90s in one convenient store.

The author of the article keeps finding faults and is not trying very hard to find alternatives. These places who sell "trashy" clothes, obviously have a market and demand for their products, what's complaining about it going to do? She sounds like one of those parents who writes yearly letters to friends touting their kid's accomplishments. "This year little Sally decided not to dress like a WHORE. She's not TRASHY, like some of the other girls in her grade are - they're such SLUTS."

tweekster: So how was she?

On the prude side, ironically (or not), but finally made it to third base after maybe 4 dates, and it was really, really good. Ultimately not worth the drama, though. At 20 it would've been, but at 30 I didn't have the patience I used to have with that.

I think everyone is missing the beauty of this. in 10 years those girls will be dressing like sluts in the workplace and that is good for everyone

Brilliant! You've opened my eyes to a whole new way of looking at the world.

Seriously, WTF. First, she probably won't find anything in there that fits her. Second, what's wrong with Victoria's Secret? Those women aren't trampy and they don't have any stupid sayings. When I think "classy lingerie" I think Victoria's Secret. I can think of a lot trampier lingerie.

Just out of curiosity, what is a "beta male"?

Opposite of an alpha male? He gets all the chicks, and is all studly. A beta male is a loser who only gets the dregs that alpha male doesn't want.

Or in a more sophisticated model, the beta male is the guy who isn't attractive, but thinks that he can get the girls by being a really nice and sweet guy, and is all disappointed and bitter against women when it turns out that being insincere in order to get laid doesn't work if you're no good at it and unattractive.

/yeah, might have known a few people like that

illinoisreview.typepad.com
Omega male.

2007-08-27 05:17:39 PM
IdBeCrazyIf: Spider Dijon: Whatever your definitions of beta males are, I read an article in the last couple weeks (can't find it! argh!) about a study that indicates that the betas are more attractive to women as husband material than the alphas.
They're more likely to stick around, be good fathers, be nice generally + less likely to cheat.

And in that same study it also state that they would rather sire the child with the alpha male and then burden the beta male with raising it. Leaving the alpha male to continue to breed.

Makes the most sense from an evolutionary stand point, and explains why we are one of the few species that has hidden ovulation. (no tell tell signs a woman is in her fertile period)

Personally I think this makes the most sense, so long as you throw out higher level thinking and reasoning that our advanced frontal lobes give us. But people are often quick to try and find excuses for their behavoir and choices.

So rational choices for beta males would be infanticide like our other primate brethren.

So basically, guys, DON'T marry any chick who has another man's child without killing the kid.

/biology is destiny

2007-08-27 05:19:22 PM
This: What, you think the guys look at the barely-legal-porn with their kids around? Or is it really just that you think porn is teh eeeeevill (or teh exploitive patriarchal misogyny, depending on your excuse for your prudishness). Hint: most adult men are damned good at being two-faced. Pick a random guy, and compare how he hangs out with his wife and with his buddies - you'd swear they were different people. Having a third facade for small children is hardly exceptional.

This is true.

But you know those little subtle, out of the corner of your eye peeks that men do when they see a hot chick walking down the road? Yeah, your daughter sees that. Your wife or girlfriend does too, but your wife or girlfriend is an adult, and doesn't immediately associate looking a certain way with getting attention from her father.

Porn is good. Porn is very good. But men (and women, oh God, but that's another topic) can't lie as well as they think they can. Especially to children, who are much more perceptive than people give them credit for.

2007-08-27 05:25:34 PM
I definitely agree with arollo...although mom's who are "best friends" with their daughter have a lot of blame, their fathers sure aren't helping. Every guy I know (bf included) drools at the 14 yr olds in slut outfits. When I remind them some creep will be doing it to their daughter they all say "That's not gonna happen."

I understand men "biologically" are attracted to sluty teenagers, but at least keep it to yourself. Sorry but if daddy likes it, she'll aspire to be it.

tweekster Start thinking of other names for cats. Then when you get it, post fry's "OH, i see what you did there"

I thought of that at first, but surely the mere artistic reference to a cat wouldn't strike fear into a parent and cause them to cluck the tongue and knowingly say: "My daughter doesn't understand the references this logo is clearly meant to evoke"? Just because of a slang term for the female parts?? It's a graphic of a cat, for crying out loud. It's not even remotely a tongue-in-cheek sexual reference. The Little Mermaid is somewhat suggestive. A little girl wearing a shirt that says "Evil Woman" is suggestive. But a cat logo isn't. Just as wearing a picture of Dick Cheney doesn't make a subtle reference to male parts. It's just plain stupid to think so.

If this cat is a problem for parents, I suggest we ban Hello Kitty as well. The cat might remind people of slang terms for body parts. Bleh.

2007-08-27 05:55:03 PM
p.s. Even if the company intended the cat to reference the term p---y (which I doubt), it's still stupid on their part & anyone who takes note of it in such a context is a moron also. Thank you, that is all.

Bad idea.
Don't make a big deal out of it. don't glamorize it, or make it appear to be something out of reach.
My 14 year-old likes the low rise jeans, but doesn't like to expose her belly; very light makeup (except for today, for some reason). When she asked (at 13) about getting a belly ring, i called up a girlfriend who's piercing had gotten infected and let her talk to her; I suggested maybe a tongue, lip or nose piercing, instead? (I guarantee I was shuddering internally, but it worked; still only has ears pierced).

I am bipolar on this subject. On one side, I want women to grow up to be moral, on the other hand, I love hot girls in tight clothing.

I am torn down the middle. I am a hypocrite. I want my girlfriend to be sweet and innocent, I want all those other hot girls to wear tight clothing, except the ones that are friends with my girlfriends.

I'd say most young girls go through a "slutty" phase when they realize that boys like their goodies. They like the attention. Then comes a time when most young women realize that they have more to offer the world and start covering up.

And those who don't become strippers :-)

Little Mermaid teaches young girls that it's perfectly ok to defy your parents over a man you've seen ONCE, give up everything you've ever known and SELL YOUR SOUL to be with him...not the best message ever

Late to the school uniform debate, but as a recovering catholic school girl I have to say that I loved my uniform. I never had to think about what to wear, nothing to iron, unflattering on everyone...whats not to love. I can't wait to send my kids to a school with uniforms.

I have a 6 year old daughter. It is VERY hard to find appropriate things for her to wear. Her classmates wear tube tops with padded bras underneath and really REALLY short shorts. The girls were getting so out of hand with how they dressed that the school had to implement a dress code (keep in mind this is a K-6 school) No spaghetti straps, no tanks, no sleeveless shirts, no shorts above the knee, no sayings on the backs of pants/shorts, no lowcut shirts, no cleavage, no see through, etc. Lots of parents complained. LOTS.

Nuts if you ask me. Why dress little ones sexy, then complain about local pedos living near school?

Anywho all that being said,I'm a merchandiser for a few stores which I'll keep nameless...but I had to do inventory for girl's panties....I noticed size 4 (this is your average 3-5 year old's size) was out of thongs. I was shocked.

Is there anybody who will honestly say that a 14 or 15 year old girl in 2007 isn't as sexually active, sultry, experienced, kinky, flirty and "adult" as a 21 year old girl was 10 years ago?

Honestly, just take a look around, people.

Go to a mall or a beach and todays teens or tweens are dressed more skimpily then ther girls ever did when I was in college.

The old addage "but your honor, look at how she was dressed" might actually be coming true one of these days . . .

This is why I find those "Catch a Predator" shows so annoying in that there is really no more "innocence" to protect.

Where are the awkward, bad hair, bad skin, gangly girls of my youth?

Apparently they don't exist anymore.

This is the first generation that has never not had the internet(and it's boundless cornucopia of pron) available to them 24/7 and it has absolutely imprinted their worldview, dress and behaviors sex-wise.

There are no more "children" after the age of 13 or so.

Stories like this are almost becoming quaint.

I never thought my mom was that hot when she was younger. My grandma, Meow! She convinced my grandpa to give up Holy Orders to marry her. And she was always very stylishly dressed when she was young. At least in the photos from back then.
