Officer: Can you describe the kidnapper?
Parent: A short man in red overalls with a big black moustache.

Sorry, the *little boy* is in another castle.

2002-09-18 08:40:37 AM
What the public really want to know is:

What was he playing and what score did he get?

2002-09-18 08:41:24 AM
"We pulled out all the stops," Jorgensen said. "We were very concerned that he may have met with foul play.

Unless you counting "checking at the neighbors" as "pulling out all the stops".

2002-09-18 08:41:46 AM
I thought 3 doors down was 2 doors down. But now they're playing nintendo?

2002-09-18 08:43:13 AM
Yeah, Kerouac, thats what I was thinking...like...ask the neighbors at no point occured to them? WTF?

2002-09-18 08:44:09 AM
What game was he playing? Can I come over?

2002-09-18 08:47:42 AM
I blame the Video Game Industry!

They are victimizing our children by luring our children.

What's next? The INTERNET?

I say we move all the children to Greece!

2002-09-18 08:48:39 AM
Why is it that most adults use Nintendo as a generic form for any kind of video game system. I guess I'm sorta an adult, but I know the difference between PSX and Nintendo and such. Maybe it's not the case in this article, but its one of those little things that irk me.

2002-09-18 08:52:44 AM
I say beat that kid with a controller, that'll learn 'em.

2002-09-18 08:53:35 AM
Yeh Rifter, "playing Nintendo" is their code word for "surfing porn and polishing the bishop."

"He had no idea about all of the attention and all the activity that was going on in the neighborhood," Jorgensen said. "He was just having a great time playing Nintendo."

Yuh-huh...I tend to not notice the rest of the world and have a great time when I'm "playing Nintendo" too. :)

2002-09-18 08:58:14 AM
What ever happened to just calling up friend's houses if you couldn't find a child. I used to play for freaking days over at neighbors and mooch off the newer game systems, and parents didn't get worried till after I missed school for a while. Anyone remember how long it took to beat contra? Now that game was the shiznit.

2002-09-18 09:00:04 AM
Kerouac: Exactly!

These people are morons! They didn't check with the neighbors first? Unbelievable. These were a bunch of idiots who really just wanted to resort to the most drastic measure. This is almost like exhibitionism. Airing dirty laundry for the whole world to view.

Doesn't someone have to be gone for 24 hours before they are declared missing?

2002-09-18 09:01:49 AM
I went to Funcoland last Saturday.. they wanted fifty bucks for a NES, forty for a SNES, and thirty for a 64. I bought a 64. Damn right. NFL Blitz and Gretzky 3D Hockey were two bucks apiece. I got Turok two for five. Tacked on another nine and got the graphic upgrade pak memory thingy. They gave me a free subscription to Game Informer. Woopteedoo. But the whole getting 10% off on all used games at Funcoland and Software Etc. isn't a bad deal either...

Off topic? huh? oops, time for Anthro 101... paid for by the state of Minnesota. One free year of college educations. Suckers.

Yes, I'm a loser geek, I know.

2002-09-18 09:04:12 AM
"educations." As you can see, the "educations" are working so well with me.

anyone other than I still play their NES? Faxanadu, Zelda, Excitebike, and Kirby shall never die!

2002-09-18 09:07:32 AM
Classic NES is the only way to go. And it still works! That's almost a decade old.

2002-09-18 09:07:47 AM
excitebike rawkz

and I'm glad to here it took them 3 frigg'n hours of searching to knock on the neighbor's door. wtf

2002-09-18 09:09:49 AM
I think police make exceptions in the case of minors for the 24 hour rule.

2002-09-18 09:11:07 AM
Should just make life easier and install GPS tracking collars onto kids till they hit their 21st birthday.

You can't find em, just go outside with your R.K.C. and click it and follow the beeping noise to find the rugrat.

And if that doesn't work, jump in the car and follow Mapquest till you locate the rodent.

Or just keep them duct taped up in the cellar where they'll be safe.

2002-09-18 09:15:33 AM
Doesn't someone have to be gone for 24 hours before they are declared missing?

I am sure it is different when they are children around.

No telling though when the parents act like children.

Contra, up, up, down, down, b, a, select, start.

Whooo hooo 30 men, yes!!!!!

2002-09-18 09:17:21 AM
Contra, up, up, down, down, left, right, left, right, b, a, select, start.

Whooo hooo 30 men, yes!!!!!

Yeh Rifter, "playing Nintendo" is their code word for "surfing porn and polishing the bishop."

In Russia, bishop polishes y... oh wait, that happens here too.

Wldncrzy14: That Ron Jeremy/Mario picture up there is a photoshop or is it original?

2002-09-18 09:20:58 AM
3 Doors Down is now 5 doors down.

Apprentice:
You could beat Contra right away if you knew the secret code to enter to start the game with like 20 or 30 lives....up, up, down, down, left, right, left, right, B, A, Start.

I started Nintendo in the Fall of 87 with Super Mario Bros. I prefered the sports games. Ice Hockey was cool because you could pick all strong fat guys, or all quick skinny guys. I always wanted Tecmo Bowl, but it was sold out the Christmas I was going to get it. Instead, I got Baseball Stars, one of the best games ever.

2002-09-18 09:22:19 AM
ahh I was 3 when Nintendo came out....I'm surprised my generation isn't known as the Nintendo Generation...I still own every nintendo system made ..except for Virtual Boy of course...

2002-09-18 09:22:40 AM
I was born along with the NES. Thankfully, this means I was only around for the 2nd half of the 80s. SUCKERS! Wait... I missed out on so much good music...

Excuse me while I cry and listen to Midnight Oil.

2002-09-18 09:22:57 AM
lol nice plastique

yes these people are seriously stupid.

Yeah guys some fudge went missing and I think it's up my ass.

2002-09-18 09:24:57 AM
I agree that the police shoulda checked the neighbors. You are however overlooking the fact that the parents "searched" for two hours. Perhaps they told the police that they already checked with the neighbors (albeit, obviously, not all of them). At any rate, I bet those parents were happy to see him, but he is gonna get the arse-whoopin of a lifetime if they get a bill for that search.

2002-09-18 09:24:59 AM
I held a videogaming party a few months back.
Some women even turned up! Really!

Anyway...
The most popular game was Bomberman on SNES.
Despite presence of N64, iLinked PS2, and top-spec networked pcs.

Old good games never die.

2002-09-18 09:27:18 AM
Something like this happened to my little brother when he was about 7, 22 years ago. My parents called the police about 5 cars showed up. As the police were starting the neighborhood door to door search when he comes trundeling up. He was playing with a new friend from school who lived three blocks over.

After the cops left. He got a whoopin'.

Ah simpler times. When you could beat your kids.

2002-09-18 09:27:38 AM
Every Nintendo system? wow. Even Gameboy Pocket? And Color? And Advanced? My original broke... I still have my see-thru oldschool gameboy though. I still play Tetris, Wario, Zelda, and Final Fantasy... it's amazing I get anything done.

I actually betrayed my Nintendo roots and went with my brother to get a PSX. Now it just sits there. Sure, games are cheap. But look at how much crap there is on it. But I do love my GTA 1... and FF7 and 8... and Parasite Eve...

Anyone play Blast Corps on 64? I love that game, but can't find it. A cult/sleepr hit from Rare...

2002-09-18 09:28:17 AM
In a LAN/Videogame party I held a few months back, despite the presence of a PlayStation (with kick ass fighting games), a Dreamcast (also with kick ass fighting games), and a GameCube (with Super Smash Bros.), N64 and Mario Party were king!!!

2002-09-18 09:30:06 AM
thats why i love the internet. thanks to the wonderful internet, i can play all the nintendo games i want, right on my computer. woohoo. of course, my original nintendo and snes are both all farked up.

2002-09-18 09:30:28 AM
yup...slowly but surely all the gameboys were aquired....a few months back a PS2 entered the house though...I hardly play it ((only to play Final Fantasy or DDR)) But thankfully Square will be making games for nintendo again!

2002-09-18 09:32:33 AM
That happened when I was about 14 to some dumbass kid. I was delivering newspapers like a good little boy, and about a hundred cops were roaming around the neighborhood I was in. As soon as I found out what was going on, my first reaction was, "It wasn't me! I had nothing to do with it, I swear!" (I grew up in a house full of women so I was use to being blamed) Probably 3 hours went by before the found the kid asleep in his babysister's closet, where he had been hiding from her and pouting.

If I would have had something to do with it, I could have come up with something much more interesting than that--Bwaaaahahahahahaaaa!

2002-09-18 09:33:53 AM
You had a LAN/Videogame party?

2002-09-18 09:34:36 AM
OMG that would suck. But, being the father of 3, one of which is a 7 y/o boy, I have to say that I hope the parents realize now that little boys do that! lol

2002-09-18 09:35:32 AM
Hey, where did you got my picture from???

2002-09-18 09:35:41 AM

TheBitingFaery: You're lucky...living on the east coast I haven't been able to see them live yet! I was going to go to NYC to see them in August..but I broke up with the boyfriend a few weeks before the show that was going to take me and I didn't have money to go by myself. Oh well...but I did get to see Ugly Cassanova live so thats almost as good....

Drat. Sorry 'bout that guy I beat to a pulp and left for dead on a pile of cactus, then.

2002-09-18 09:42:32 AM
jesus farking christ not only are they bad parents, but they overreact and dont do the logical thing, check his friends house next door ~_~

2002-09-18 09:44:29 AM
Sounds like these parents really knew their son, heck they didn't even know where his friends houses were. What quality people, I have to thank them for wasting all the tax payer money.

2002-09-18 09:45:48 AM
I wish I was playing nintendo instead of failing tests.

Stupid college.

2002-09-18 09:48:09 AM
Writing as a father and a grandfather, I can understand the parents' concern. I'm impressed with the resources brought to bear in such a short time, and for this they all get a HERO tag.

OTOH did they get so panicked that they just plain forgot to call the neighbors? Sheesh. For this they get a DUMBASS tag.

2002-09-18 09:49:08 AM
Can you say "OVER REACTION"? Pulling out all stops would include checking with "every" neighbor even if it were 100 or more!
