Skookum is either:

a) An incredibly talented and dedicated role-player who may be the greatest troll in the history of Fark, or

b) An insane, delusional, misguided, uneducated, pseudochristian fool who makes me sad to share the same species.

Seriously, who can believe it would be a good idea for the US to become an empire, leaving behind the Constitutional Republic we've been for over 200 years? Who can believe that Jesus would be behind someone who doesn't turn the other cheek, but who condones the massacre of tens of thousands of civilians in a war that accomplishes nothing? These are the things that set off my troll-meter.

skookum: Actually, it's not genocide when we're talking about an enemy who's made it clear their mission is to destroy us.

it's a handful of extremists like this guy who wrote the article (and possibly you)

they don't speak for every Arab ,just like he (and possibly you) don't speak for all Americans.

Do you think this kind of rhetoric on his part would justify the Arabs nuking us into oblivion?
Might does not make right.

BravadoGT: HotWingConspiracy: Everyone that died at the WTC were friends, family, or neighbors of yours?

Compared to a bunch of jihadists hiding in a cave 15,000 miles away? I'd have to say yes. Oh, and you can take your moral relativism and shove it.

All of us, and everything around us, are just subatomic strings vibrating on the same frequency.

Think about that. Or don't. I certainly haven't.

Agreed. Wonkette routinely posts stuff that is just completely pulled out of someone's ass and alternately presents unsubstantiated wishful thinking as fact and other times takes something meaningless and attributes sweeping motives or influence to it.

If it's a link from KOS, Wonkette or Free Republic I'm going to be taking it with a big enough grain of salt that I just don't bother reading them at all. They are all a waste of my time.***

Instead of that salt you could just read the links.

I have many times, they are usually a dumptruck full of fail. Garbage in garbage out. Just because something uses the magical power of "teh interweb links" doesn't mean the source story isn't utter crap too.

I don't bother wasting my time with garbage from any of those three sites anymore. Anyone who does get their news from Free Republic, Wonkette or Kos is doing it wrong.

I'm not sure you know what moral absolutism and relativism are. See, you saying that all the Iraqis that would dies are worth less than 3,000 Americans, that's relativism, because you're saying that their lives aren't worth as much. The absolutist would say that a life is a life.

2007-08-21 06:49:30 PM
So, let me get this straight. They want to blame democracy for falsifying evidence that would justify a pre-emptive strike in Iraq?
Then they want to blame democracy for not liking the war in Iraq. Wasn't it democracy that spouted to obvious all along? Everyone said, um how important is Iraq right now? Lets finish the job in Afghanistan before we bite off too much.

If Democracy had played out, rather than executive manipulation, then the US would still be a magnificent example to the world.

KrispyKringle: killing all Arabs

What about the Persians? They seem to be the real troublemakers at the moment.

The Persians I know HATE the Arab clerics that rule Iran. Iran, from what I understand, is more or less a cleric-run apartheid. Persians like jeans, Nikes and Madonna (read: Americana) and are largely a worldly people.

Stopheles: Overextending the Roman Empire ENDED the Roman Empire.

Rome was a society without electricity and other technological military innovations.

Parallels to Rome are laughable at best, distracting at worst.

And "turning the other cheek" does not serve us well in the War on Terror. It's obvious that we have to adopt the Christian-in-Battle stance to deal with this, frankly, tumor on the face of the Earth.

The Ninj': Might be hard for americans to inhabit a country when it is being sprinkled with radioactive fallout for the next 10,000 years, or even harvest its oil reserves.

Nah...modern air-burst tactical nukes (which is how you kill all the little brown people and blow down their shacks) only put out a few kilos of radioactive material. You could walk right in and start tapping the oil pumps pretty much right away.

/satire...but true

I have a friend who was in the invasion fleet sitting off Nagasaki when we nuked that city. He said they waited several days then just went ashore. He was in an engineering company, and they marched up the main drag until they got to where the main water works was, asked for the senior surviving guy, and told him to get laborers chop-chop to restart the water for the city. He is now about 85 years old and just last year gave up carrying a backpack, and instead day hikes. Never had a serious health issue in his life.

Oh, and he was there for like 3 years.

Charninja: Hey, as much as you hate it, the logic is sound. There can't be suicide bombings and road minings and kidnappings and assassinations if there aren't people to perform them.

Also, while I'm hardly a nuclear physicist or anything, I could have sworn they'd cleaned up the technology a fair bit so that there'd be less radiation. I mean, hell, people are still living in Hiroshima and Nagasaki, aren't they? And that was only some 50 years ago.

That and the fact that mostnooclear devices nowadays are set for airburst, which delivers practically all the destructive force (a little heat excepted) and much, much less fallout (less atomized and radioactive debris is thrown up).

People just don't know what they're talking about.

GWLush,

Also, if you are a gun owning exMarine, does it mean that you still love the idea of killing people? Don't they take away your liberal latte card if they find out you like to kill people? On the flip side, if you were a Marine and you DIDN'T like killing people... must have made you a bad Marine.

I think the punch line here is Jack Murtha.

OccamsWhiskers: Awesome of wonkette to have verifiable evidence of the legitimacy of these internet postings that are somehow no longer available anywhere on the internet.

The original article was listed on Reddit four days ago (new window). It was taken offline after generating a few thousand hits, presumably the moment someone at FSM put down the crackpipe and realize that they had published an open apology for genocide online. I saw it while it was still up.

2007-08-21 07:04:07 PM
First of all, I've never heard of them, and neither have you, so let's get that straight right now. All of this faux-outrage is over an article that nobody read, written by a guy nobody has ever heard of, posted on a site by an organization that nobody knew existed.

Second of all, how the hell did this thing evolve into a "think tank", and then--on some lefty blogs--a "top think tank"? WTF is wrong with you people?

Even staunch conservatives are sick of Bush, who is basically a Democrat with the amnesty, runaway spending, huge new entitlement programs, etc, so I'm calling BS on the "think tank article" (can you sense my eyes rolling at you?).

I think somebody got pwned... one of three scenarios happened...
1) Somebody hacked the website and put the article up.
2) Somebody got pissed and posted a stupid article.
3) The article never existed, and some lefty somewhere noticed that the previously unknown groups site was down, made up an article, and convinced a bunch of uber-partisan half-wits that there was this article.

I'm leaning towards number 3, given that there doesn't appear to be a cached copy anywhere.

50 bucks says that either:

-The think tank is question is regarded by everyone who matters as a bunch of loonies, or
-The documents in question are BS.

Extra points for believing that Google allows the CIA to tell them what to remove from their cache. Even if they wanted to, I bet they'd drag it out a few days (as well as getting support from all the Google-philes out there for standing up to big brother).

WTF?! PERFECT!

From Wikipedia, copied slowly.

in philosophy, moral relativism is the position that moral or ethical propositions do not reflect objective and/or universal moral truths, but instead make claims relative to social, cultural, historical or personal circumstances.

Many put a lot of effort into proving themselves hypocriticaly idiots here on fark. Rarely has anyone accomplished it so concisely.

Bravo, BravadoGT.
