Can't think of any "they landed safely" jokes.

Good for them. I'm getting tired of those "LOL SHUTTLES GONNA GET DESTROYED LOL" headlines that accompany the usual shuttle thread. We don't need any more fuel for the fire, so to speak.

Stick to the 18 times the speed of light ones.

Whatever dude, she was a Toyota and she made it home every time. Old when I bought her, too!

2007-08-21 12:54:19 PM
My first car made it home. Barely. Had it going 75 on the highway when it cracked a cylinder. Managed to make it coast, getting lucky on all the lights, the nearly 2 miles from the highway exit back to my house. It came to a stop at the curb of my house without me having to press the brake...

An amazing bit of work for a then-16-year-old. Course, if you'll look at my bio, you'll see I have other reasons to think I was able to make it back without a tow truck.

2007-08-21 12:54:49 PM
Glad they got back safely, but damn, could we please send them up in a craft that doesn't have pieces of it falling off left and right?

I wanted the headline to be something like: "NASA FAILS at attempt to lose the life of another female school-teacher". I would have used the img1.fark.com tag.

So their record on shuttle missions successfully returning with no loss of life is 116-2, yet we still see "Next Shuttle Explosion Scheduled for..." headlines.

I'm so happy.

I can't even watch takeoffs and landings anymore. I thought I'd be living on the moon by this time in my life, I really did.

My first car had a slant six engine in it. The thing could still be running somewhere - may be, I sold it - if the body hasn't rotted to nothing by now.

ScreamingInDigital: My first car had a slant six engine in it. The thing could still be running somewhere - may be, I sold it - if the body hasn't rotted to nothing by now.

That engine could run without oil. It was in my '79 Aspen (above).

2007-08-21 01:07:28 PM
It was actually the 2nd car I ever owned. Fukkin thing didn't make it 24 hours before the engine blew. I only needed it for a few months, but it couldn't even make it a day. Worst 800 bucks I've ever spent. It was an important lesson in "Don't expect a cheap car to work", though.

2007-08-21 01:08:01 PM
The first car I ever owned was a 1970 Chevy Nova and it was in great shape till I gave it over to my big brother. He trashed it. Goes to show, if you have to pay for something you end up taking much better care of it. Of course, this may not apply to NASA.
