I wonder how Cayman Islands are weathering this? It seems that the eyewall went a bit further south than previously thought. My dad is going there on a dive trip in October.

I wonder if my roof in Progreso will be there when I go down in September.
(From Merida go out towards Progresso, make a right just before the Pemex and go about 14kms. The name is Delfines on the sign. If you drive by let me know if you see my roof next week.

You can steal the TV if you want, it will probably be wet by the anyway.

Lots of hotels and attractions on the Yucatan coast just finished cleaning up and rebuilding after their last bout with a hurricane.

They got positively wrecked that time, and this one looks to be bigger...

Xcaret, RIP?

So let me get this straight ... the name "Dean" alone inspires the submitter to conjure up memories of Animal House because one of the movie's primary characters is the college's Dean Wormer?

So I suppose during the next media-madhouse court case, you'll be thinking of Caddyshack cuz there's a judge in it?

Well, it's good that it's missing the population centers of Playa del Carmen, Cozumel and the hell-hole that is Cancun.

On the other hand, places like Akumal and Tulum don't have the infrastructure to deal with serious damage. If the 305 gets cut, there is almost no way to move heavy loads into a disaster area.

Lex and Faethe (and one other I'm forgetting) are our storm watchers. If it isn't hitting the U.S., and thus less chance of helping fellow Farkers in the affected regions with updates and predictions, they might not be as up on spending as much time in these threads.

You're right though, I always learned a lot from them.

Man, am I glad we were there two weeks ago instead of this week. Actually all of the stops on our cruise have been in the path of the storm, Jamaica, Grand Cayman Island and Cozumel.

It would've been a fun week at sea - and maybe we could've gotten our stop at Labadee in.

Good luck to all of the folks in the path.

I am sweating bullets today, because I am right in the path of this monster, and I am not getting a kick out of these replies at all.

I am at 27.5 N by 97.5 W and the storm is at 17.9 N and 82.4 W as of 2 PM Eastern time.

That puts it 666 miles to my south, and roughly 1048 miles to the east.

More importantly, it is moving about 10 miles to the west for every 1 mile to the north, good news for me but bad news for anyone to the south.

Theoretically, a big high pressure dome over Lousy Anna will push the thing south and we won't get clobbered.

If anyone believes that I know a cute little African hottie with big tits and $16.8 million she wants to stash in your bank account; I would be more than happy to introduce you.

If that high moves off, which it could well do, and that storm takes a classic right turn, that puts me right in its path.

I am ready to run, and advise anyone in a similar situation to do the same.

The one thing known for sure about hurricanes is they are absolutely and totally unpredictable.

Better safe than sorry, and be prepared always.
