timmy_the_tooth: mighty_hero: Yeah I was a TF'er for a while. It was okay.
Regardless two trainwreck threads in two days. Awesome.

TF is worth $5 just for the foobs, add in the late night AW threads, the trainwreck threads, the ANON-DIT, thousands of links a day, $5 is cheap.

Plus, no farkette EVER sends BIE to a ghey ass liter.

What is ANON-DIT? I looked it up, but I'm still not quite sure.
And AW? I like the trainwreck threads though. I'm very curious about TF, but since I live in Canada and don't believe in Credit cards, it seems like a lot of trouble to go through for something I may or may not like.

/I think I would like it though.

Drew, do you not already have extensive digital proof that Fark's highest volume of user traffic comes from internet-based news agencies?

If that is true, the guilt of this fark-tart should be all but self-evident.

2007-08-17 03:42:40 PM
And I would have gotten away with it if it wasn't for those meddling kids!

Since I discovered Fark.

a) my husband left me for a younger girl.
b)got fired from my last 2 jobs.
c) caught a STD, trying to make ends meet.
d)my car was stolen, twice.
e) my cat was run over.
d) my best friend turned gay. Butt thats ok.
e) my ARM, caused me to lose my house.
f) was evicted from my mother's basement.
g) the NSA had me rectally probed.
H) and now I'm suffering from tunnel vision, and monitor radiation, from reading these worthless not NeWS threads.

Drew, You'll be hearing from my lawyer as soon as he's sober, and finished with my cousin Vinny.

40below: A reporter does not hack, or attempt to hack, someone's voice mail, email or computer network and even if someone slips you the password or access code, you never use it. You're not allowed to commit crimes in order to gather news.

Up to a point.

If a reporter were slipped the password and login to the server where all the DOJ/attorney firing emails were kept, I think most reporters would run with it.

But, this? Yeah, not worth it.

2007-08-17 03:43:50 PM
skookum: Actually, I am a 100% serious.

Sites like this one will eventually have to go through a news accuracy certification, or they will have to have a disclaimer on the home page "For Entertainment Purposes Only."

And yes, the NSA is legally cleared to investigate these sites for terrorist-sympathizing material and undue criticism of this administration that could well embolden the enemies of this country.

This is only the beginning.

Your grasp of the realistic danger of unfettered Liberalism is way beyond what most Farkers can comprehend. They think that they can say and do whatever they want willy nilly and never really contemplate the long-range danger that their immaturity and lack of foresight can wrought upon our country.

1) have a competition to see which of us is the biggest nerd (and i think i'm in with a pretty good shot myself, thank-you very much) and arm them with various vegetables

2) take out a fark classified ad stating "ear surgery pioneer offers discount for farkers" (giving the super-nerd's house number as the ear clinic address and book the guy in for an appointment)

3) unleash the super-nerd

I've always presumed that fark.com is successful in spite of it's software rather than because of it.

It could be an example of accidentally successful engineering. It's unquestionably bad on several points, but what people want from a web forum UI and what generates the most activity on a web forum may be entirely different things.

If it's the latter, you don't need to see the backend to mimic the front end.

I figure if someone was hacking fark, it was for jollies more than theft.

Figures something like this would happen in Memphis. We are not the brightest people in the world.

Add some Ajax to remove the requirement to reload the page to see new comments, and instead only send the newest comments instead of a megabyte of stuff you've already read through. Oh well, that'll probably take an extra day or two but it'll be worth it.

This.

I asked Drew ages ago in a note if we could choose the number of comments displayed, the last 25 would be fine for me most of the time. He liked the idea, but he is also a super-duper busy guy so maybe that thought got lost in the shuffle. Hi Drew! :-)

I have noticed the red line indicating the newer posts, so maybe we can have a button that will just allow us to load to that point + a few previous comments....would save a lot of b/w too.

ANON-DIT is anonymous submitter discussion in thread. TFers can start a thread without an article then discuss the topic amongst themselves. Like an ordinary forum but without interference from the hoi poloi.

Not even then. The Chiquita case in Cincinnati was a big one too but the reporter got fired and blackballed and the paper paid a huge settlement (rumoured to be $50 million.)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chiquita_Brands_International (pops)

Thing is, unless you come up with them legitimately, you can't prove they're accurate and you'll have a hell of a hard time shopping them around for comment. First question from the eds: "How did you get these?" The correct answer is not "I stole them."

Plus as soon as the DoJ got wind that you had them, a court would immediately slap a non-pub order on them. They're someone else's property, just like a stolen car.
