Her name is Pat Head? How patronizing.

"Head Summitt" is a noble American Indian name.

Got a hot date with Peppermint Patty, does she?

She always struck me as the scissoring type. Surprised she lasted 27 years.

Joke all you want. Best college coach. Ever.

bale: Best college coach. Ever.

...for that particular sport, right?

She could very well be the best ever in women's basketball on the collegiate level.

/ Geno! What do you think?

Rephrase. Best college basketball coach, men or women. Ever.

Not even close to John Wooden.

Even with the divorce, if I was her, I would keep Summitt. I would have beaten my parents to death and fed the remains to Mike Vick's pit bulls if they named me Pat Head.

Foaming: Not even close to John Wooden.

Thank you.

Great book bale and worth reading. Foaming probably already has. Pat is the winningest basketball coach of all time regarding games though right? I still believe John Wooden is the best -- just a personal opinion.

For some reason, I've never heard the song Rocky Top before, but after watching this video, it sounds strangely appropriate for Tennessee.

I've been trying to use my google-fu but it sucks tonight. I get the following, correct me if I'm wrong people, that Summitt has won 947 games in her collegiate career. Wooden has won 885. Wooden won 10 championships as a coach + 1 as a player. Summitt has won 7 national championships + none as a player.

They're both great coaches. That book (along with the championships) by Wooden makes me lean his way as the best college basketball coach. I'm just a real big fan of how he operated.

/ Arxane at least at last years Bama/UT game in Knoxville, this is the type of Rocky Top (pops) you get every few steps up any street, not to mention The Pride of the Southland Band version during the game ... over and over again. Roll Tide. ;)
// Woody Same to you and the Buckeyes. Keep up the good posting!

Yes, I concede that I do not have the most unbiased opinion, being a Tennessean, but any head coach that can dress up in a cheerleader's uniform for the Florida/TN game is pretty freaking cool. Still think she's the best, but it is just opinion.

I honestly don't think you've made a bad choice. She's an awesome coach. Didn't Pearl dress up as well?

I'm speechless, both in surprise and from sportsmanship.

I was in the Pride of the Southland Band for 3 football seasons....it is without a doubt the best college marching band in the country. Don't get me started....hands down over any SEC band. Michigan comes in second with a good program and solid history. Just check out the Tennessee Circle Drill and get back to me.

As for Summitt, she should keep her name, one of the best if not THE best college basketball coach, men or women, of all time. Plus they would have to change the name of the court to "The Head"....and that just sounds wrong.

/God I miss playing Rocky Top
//We played it 75-80 times in at the UT/Bama game that went 5 OTs

Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa... back the bus up a minute.

Pat Summitt was married? To a man? For that long? And conceived?

I've seen it in person. No question about it, the Vols have always had a kickass band.

That's like saying a coach who won a couple state titles in high-school football is the "best football coach ever". Or a single-A minor-league coach is the "best baseball coach ever".

Actually, that isn't right... there are typically more than 5 programs/teams that compete over a 20+ year stretch in all of those other sports.

2007-08-17 11:04:13 AM
She's still cool though, and the best in her sport.

I would not want to piss that woman off, she looks like she would tear Bobby Knight a new one.

For the few faithful that come back to this thread ... mjohns deserves this YouTube link to help his earlier point. The Vol's do have an awesome band. This is a case in point as to why college football rules.
