I can't watch Youtube at work, but if this is the vid where he says:
"If you work hard, play by the rules...you're the kind of person we want in New York, we don't care if you're legal or not" (paraphrased) then I think I actually liked his old standpoint better than his flip-flop. Pandering to the base has ruined many a fine candidate :(

that video, being from 1996, had nothing to do with 9-11...what am i missing here?

is it that guiliani is going to invoke 9-11 when he's challenged on this?

Giuliani was an effective mayor. That being said, he was as close to a fascist as one can reasonably get in this country. After he was mayor, he became a Republican shill, faithfully supporting the Bush Disaster, and basically a 28 percent-er. He is also personally a horrible person. And he has NO IDEA how the rest of the country operates.

As much as I hate Hillary, I would rather she be in office than he.

Wait, that last part can work both ways since he is sometimes a she and she might be in reality a he.

I'm sure Cheney and Giullani are big fans of YouTube after this week. I love the internets.

I've learned from Fark threads about John Edwards that any article critical of a presidential candidate is borne of fear of said candidate's policies and potential to win the general election.

People must be really afraid of Rudy Giuliani.

Several 911 hijackers were here illegally on expired visas. Hey, but they worked hard and played by the rules...sort of.

Hmm, I thought it came out of the fact that the cantidates are hypocrits and will say whatever they need to, to get elected.

I'm voting Democrat straight down the line in '08, as I'm with the majority with a knowledge of the party they tend to support, but with voters 40+ years of age, especially Dems, the issue of illegal immigration will be the most important issue of the campaign for '08. I've done the canvassing of registered Dem voters in southern California in many districts, and the immigration issue makes a bunch of them consider the GOP stance, enough to change their vote, opposite of the plan Bush had with majority leaders in Congress. It's a trap that will hurt the party and Rove can exploit with his candidate, unless some of the Democratic candidates oppose amnesty. Personally, I feel you cannot help where you are born, and if you want to work towards being a part of American society, you should not have a tough road to go. Many candidates may feel that way as well; they need to sidestep that question and offer a strong anti-immigration policy. This issue is the only way the GOP can get elected, and it's a poison issue for Dems, according to many voters. There should not be a vocal support for amnesty until after the '08 election. Fortunately, Giuliani spoke too soon, but older voters probably won't see alot of these folks' older interviews and speeches, as they are replaced with current ones, and the older rhetoric is forgotten.

Republican have only one method of being elected into office: 9/11. They think it worked so well for Bush that it'll work for them. what they fail to realize is that voters are smarter and know the Repubs are feeding off their fears.

The First: Republican have only one method of being elected into office: 9/11.

Guess that explains 7 out of the last 10 presidential elections, eh?

Obviously: Several 911 hijackers were here illegally on expired visas. Hey, but they worked hard and played by the rules...sort of.

Interesting fact: There's tons of scenarios where you can be in the US on an expired visa and still be legal. The visa is not what makes your presence legal - you either have the right to be here or not - it's just the piece of paper that documents that the USCIS is satisfied you're legal.

Expired visas were standard procedure at the time. The INS (as it was known back then) was - probably still is - utterly, utterly incapable of renewing visas in time.

If you can only apply for a visa extension 90 days before your visa expires, but the INS takes 120 days to process your application, you're not breaking any laws by staying beyond the visa date, if the conditions that make your presence in the country legal haven't changed.

Incidentally, the INS mailed valid student visas to Mohammed Atta six months after 9/11, doucumenting that his presence in the US was legal due to him taking flying lessons. The INS claimed that the mailing wasn't their fault - as the visa had been approved pre-9/11, it just took them six months to mail it. I am not making this up. Having dealt with the INS, I'm not even mildly surprised.

9/11 was a conspiracy for fear of the American people.

Peoples lives are more important then turning them over as illegal immigrants?

This is the only sane thing I have heard come out of his mouth.

Too bad it was so long ago and I doubt he will say it again.

Yes, true. And this is more the fault of the federal government.

And the Republican want MORE visas for foreign workers and to keep not enforcing the laws about sending them back.

We will just waste more tax dollars on building bigger walls as we open the door to let them in.
