Child, if you're responsible enough to get married, then you are responsible enough to dress appropriately for court. Jeans? Come on. Your husband is smart enought to wear a tie - did it not occur to you that maybe you were underdressed? If I were the judge, I'd have thrown it out based on that alone. She'll probably show up for her job interview in jeans, too. But then again, it'll probably be at Waffle House or Hooters.

Her parents should have never signed the papers in the first place for her to get married. Sure she's happy right now, living this fantasy life..but soon she will realize it's not all cracked up to be as she once thought and will want out. I really hope they don't have kids.

amazing_live_seamonkeys:

Wilmington NC is a horrible horrible place.

Wilmington manages to be one of those towns with a high cost of living combined with low wages.

Of course, once Navassa across the river opens up that huge landfill taking in trash from the entire Eastern Seaboard, there will be at least 10 or 15 new jobs paying $8 a hour. Whoo-hoo!

Do not even think of visiting there or moving into some gated community with a bunch of farkers from the Northeast.

If they were Farkers, that would be cool. Mostly, though, they are just Yankee Richardheads.

The food is terrible and the beaches are filled with razor blades. A coal fire has been burning underground for 30 years.

Before you get to the razors, you have to fight the bumper-to-bumper traffic on Oleander Drive, and then find a parking space. After waiting an hour in the sun for a space to empty, you discover that it costs as much to park in Wrightsville as it does to park in downtown Washington DC. And they plan to raise the rates - again - this fall.

Repeat, do not move there.

They'll keep moving here. They all plan on working at the studios, but just end up being one of the empty-headed bimbos staffing the counter at Port City Java.

Despite the attire being unprofessional, I really hope you would not throw out a case purely based on someone's attire. So what she dressed in jeans? Who gives a damn? Did she wear any revealing clothing? Or crude, violent, graphic clothing? No.

This story makes me so sad.

They are so desperate for money, they are suing her parents for worthless Beanie Babies and a PlayStation? Who wants to bet the day she turns 18, he'll have her do porn or the like to pay the bills? I feel sad for her.

MissMalice: In theory it's kind of a romantical idea. In this case it's quite pathetic. I hope teacher man runs off with her mom.

Wait, she sued over beanie babies and a mounted fish?

It's almost like she's not old enough to make adult decisions or something...

I don't know, can't see how that is romantic. Being an older man doesn't always make them the best choice. Plus what guy that age would want to put up with a 16 year old? I think huge age differences in a relationship just add extra strain. If I had a daughter I'd be pretty irate if she ran off with an older man.

2007-08-16 12:40:58 PM
So she thinks she's mature enough to be married, but she sues her parents for her beanie babies and her PS2? Pathetic. She'll run back home to mommy and daddy before the year is out.

muslim_pakistani_guy As someone that claims to live in Pakistan, you should be quite familar with the practice. My comment is based in fact, and I'm quite comfortable with it. Thanks for playing.

"Pakistan: Honor killings are known as Karo Kari (Sindhi: ڪارو ڪاري) (Urdu: کاروکاری ). The practice is supposed to be prosecuted under ordinary murder, but in practice police and prosecutors often ignore it. Often a man must simply claim the killing was for his honor and he will go free. Nilofar Bakhtiar, advisor to Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz, stated that in 2003, as many as 1,261 women were murdered in honor killings. On December 8, 2004, under international and domestic pressure, Pakistan enacted a law that made honor killings punishable by a prison term of seven years, or by the death penalty in the most extreme cases. Women's rights organizations were, however, wary of this law as it stops short of outlawing the practice of allowing killers to buy their freedom by paying compensation to the victim's relatives. Women's rights groups claimed that in most cases it is the victim's immediate relatives who are the killers, so inherently the new law is just eyewash. It did not alter the provisions whereby the accused could negotiate pardon with the victim's family under the so-called Islamic provisions. In March 2005 the Pakistani government allied with Islamists to reject a bill which sought to strengthen the law against the practice of "honor killing". However, the bill was brought up again, and in November 2006, it passed. It is doubtful whether or not the law would actually help women."

Why would the parents want to keep the things they gave their daughter? This doesn't cry out loving parents to me.

If you love someone, set them free...

I'm sorry, I know we're all retching at the grossness of the whole relationship and whatever--but I'm still extremely baffled and weirded out by the whole mounted fish thing.

Seriously? A mounted fish. What the hell is that even worth that her parents would sell it? If that thing was in my house, I'd burn it. And beanie babies?? Unless I'm crazy, those things aren't worth crap, since, oh, I don't know, ten years ago?

/the PS2 I could sympathize with
//except that she's a gross whore.

No. You are culturally illiterate.

You cannot even distinguish between dowry deaths and honor killing. Sheesh!

Yes, *some* brides in India are murdered because their dowries are considered insufficient. They are not killed by their parents but by their (jerk) husband and (shiatty) in-laws. Usually in the kitchen in an attempt to pass it off as a domestic accident.

Honor Killings are a phenomenon observed in more militant Islamic settings (not common-honor killings) where the girl's family kills her to protect the "honor" of the family because they believe (idiotically) that she has brought shame on the family. The reasons for this may vary- but if she choose to marry a guy herself from a rival village, if she had premarital sex, that kind of thing.

Neither are a "common" occurence. So, please stop spouting inanities before I am forced to use a stereotype of inbreeding or the like against you.

If I had to go back and do it all over again ( without meeting the guy I am married to ) ... I would likely have married a guy 15 or 20 years older than I am. I have always been interested in MUCH older guys.

I see nothing at all wrong with this young woman and the older guy getting married. Then again .. this being fark ... we should just hang the guy right?

I have no problem with a May-December type scenario. Look, he is not wealthy, so you can't accuse her of being a gold digger. She is not the typical, cute babe cheerleader, so you can't accuse him of being a dirty old man.

Maybe it is love, who knows. But I do admit to *personally* being *highly* creeped out by older guys/gals who sleep with 16 year olds.
