Yes, but the city had to PAY those employees to count the money, see? So it had to waste its own money, see? Which means that the people who give the city money had to pay for it, see? Which means the guy...uh...the guy...well. Gee. I guess he really just screwed himself. Wow, that didn't work out like I expected.

Not legally required to accept pennies or nickels as settlement of debt. Dimes and up, they are, if I recall correctly.

Here's the problem: this man paid that much in taxes, and they had to have employees count the money.

The problem is not that the man brought the money in like this, but that EMPLOYEES had to count the money. Do they not have any sort of technology that does this? Or do they not have access to said technology?

My mom used to work in the County Clerk's Office, one day some dude walks in and pays his $16.05 owed in taxes in pennies. Unfortunately, for him, he threw them and some spilled about the floor. Of course, he stormed out in righteous indignation and failed to get a receipt. They didn't find all of the pennies, his taxes weren't paid and they put his house up for auction. Funny.

You got to find a way to protest and since it is legal tender, it was a way that got attention and didn't get him arrested. I hope he does well with his property tax problems.

No. Not even a bank has the means to count this except manually.

have a nice cup of fail there, little green nut man. the employees are still getting paid, so Kabong's statement still stands in spirit. The people counting the money are getting paid to do their job, it is not an especially more arduous job than it would be if the event in question had not happened. Hell, it may have even been a nice break in the monotony.

(pardon my spelling errors, it's late)

Coinstar counting is free is you opt for a gift certificate. The city should have just gotten something nice from Linens 'n Things or Old Navy.

F property taxes. I'd prefer allodial title on my real property. I've never been a big fan of having to pay a recurring tax on something I supposedly own. I find it troubling that if this tax isn't paid, my real property can be taken away. How is that ownership? I OWN the jeans I'm wearing, and don't have to pay an annual fee for wearing them. I liken real property ownership more to a lease/rental from the government. Stupid municipalities.

Note that I did not say "in five minutes". If, in fact, no technology exists that sorts AND COUNTS coinage or bills, then I suggest someone invent it.

Being that this is a government entity, this man likely should not have expected an immediate response to having his money counted. I do believe the agency could have responded by processing his documents a bit more slowly than anyone else's.

Throw whole heap into a really big bucket of water.

Stuff that floats goes into one counting machine
Stuff that sinks goes into another.

Seems like it'd work. Maybe there has to be a drying process in the middle...

I doubt they have a coin counter. They probably don't expect bulk coin.

I'm sure the employees there have high property taxes also so who is he really punishing. Bull shiat like that never makes it up to the top. Unless the Governer or Mayor has to count the money it's not making any bit of difference.

If I was the employee I'd crack open the coin and count it piece by piece making overtime and having that idiot sit there for it all in order to get his receipt.

S0oo.. the city will have to raise taxes again, to pay for people to count his childish form of payment of his taxes. Then those people will ask for a raise in their pay for counting his childish way of paying taxes, and then the city will have to raise taxes again.

Let me explain what overtime is for you. That means they work beyond the scheduled time, and so receive extra pay for the extra time. Therefore, the city is spending extra money to have to money counted. Extra tax money.

It'd be a brilliant move, if he wasn't hitting everyone BUT his target.

The people counting get annoyed, and they had nothing to do with it.
The people counting get paid OT + the police officers. That comes from somewhere else in the budget.

What'd he think, that the people who made the tax laws would be paying them personally?

If you're going for revenge, hit your damn target.
